Skidoo Tundra. Is it the right sled?

Why buy a Tundra? I’ve owned several models of snowmobile over the years. Today’s new models are built more specialty purpose than ever. Here’s my 2 cents on the Tundra, it somewhat tippy disposition and what I use this multipurpose machine for.

nice video. I'm currently breaking in my g4 LT 600 efi, and I've been extremely impressed. The clutching is incredible for tight woods navigation. 2 guys and a days worth of fishing gear on the tunnel crawling at 2-3 mph with zero belt stress is amazing. also turns on a dime like you mentioned. people who use them for their intended purpose will appreciate the tippy nature of the Tundra.

I own a 2018 Ski Doo Tundra LT 600 ACE. I bought the wide ski liners and the temperature gauge accessories. The ski liners help quite a bit with tippyness and flotation. The 4 stroke motor us very quite, doesn't use oil, starts at 20 below zero very easily and the fuel mileage on eco mode is fenominal! I love my tundra and I'd buy another one in a heartbeat! I've never got it stuck and believe me I've tried. Went riding with a bunch of mountain sled buddies and I made it further than they did that night.

Fuel economy is definitely a great aspect to the ACE motor. Did that model have the rad?

@@granteditslifeoutdoors.9194 yes it came standard with it. I rode miles of icy trails and it never got hot. 40°f all day going slow mostly off trail riding and the temp stayed right in the middle of gauge.

I take my tundra xtreme in the mountains a lot and its really easy to side hill. Counter steering is a lotta fun with this design. Once I let someone ride it for the first time and they went 10 feet and they tipped it on its side on flat 3 foot deep powder

I bought a 2022 600 EFI LT, so far I am impressed with its tight turning and handling. But I did get an old lesson on an uphill turn in soft snow , forgot to weight uphill. Laid it on the side , put it in reverse and walked it out. Still in the break in phase.

All sleds were like this back in the day. It's only recently they started making these wide sleds for city slickers on groomed trails.

The 1970 Olympic 335 I grew up with / learned to ride on was tippy but lean in the corners and you would fly thru a narrow trail.

I have a 24 inch wide track deep in the bush and it works great. Not tippy just need to really throw your weight around and keep momentum. Like any sled.

I had a new Tundra a couple years back. Machine was tippy as hell. It sure seemed like it was trying to kill me. I acknowledge that at 70 I’m not as agile as I used to be. I got rid of the Tundra and bought tracks for my Honda Pioneer but had I chose to keep the Tundra, I’d have added the ski widening kit. Everything is a compromise.

The other thing that people dont realize us that it only takes a 3 or 4 inch stump to catch a lower control arm to rip the front end apart!! Regular control arm front suspension is so vulnerable....

If we are talking tippy then lets not forget the infamous ELAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy is correct in saying this is a specialty machine for tight monouvering around the bush, not joy riding. Looks like my kinda machine for loging.

The thing about an Elan was when you got stuck you just picked it up and moved it. Just stay away from any slush with it. Those were great little sleds

Can buy the ski stance widener by quality pieces adds 5 inch of width. It's what I've done. Could also add the 10 inch skins under the skis too which I think I'll try as well now.

Yes there are a few guys on KZfaq that have illustrated this kit installation. A good option to improve stability, but my point is that the ski stance was designed purposefully by BRP for floatation, side hilling and tight maneuvering. If you’re choosing which sled to buy new the Scandic Sport has 35” ski stance.
@granteditslifeoutdoors.9194
@granteditslifeoutdoors.9194 2 жыл бұрын
@BorrowedTime. thanks for your detailed comments. I figured BRP needed a few years to run the bugs out of the 600efi. I have not ridden a G4 sled. I’m always looking for comments from others, but I have also heard some negative feedback. I do like the Expedition tho if I was ever to upgrade. Longer rides on groomed trail or lake is not a strength for Tundra.

@granteditslifeoutdoors.9194

Yes, the performance of the tundra would still be more tippy than an Expedition etc, it has not changed - but you get other benefits to the narrow ski stance like floatation and maneuverability in tight situations.
