While offshore searching for mahi mahi we came across a group of birds that looked like tuna birds 🦅 Tuna birds, especially skipjack tuna birds, tend to move fast and are tough to keep up with. Once on the birds and in the action we were glad to see these weren't just any birds, they were skipjack tuna birds! In this video we go from the water, to the fillet table and into the kitchen with our delicious tuna meat! We hope this video encourages you to get outdoors with your friends and family and enjoy a fun day catching fish 🎣😊

I grew up in Maui and that’s how my mom taught me to cook it beside a simple homemade teriyaki sauce then we eat the leftovers broken with finely diced pineapple, onion, sesame seeds on taro chips or banana chips. Great job keep it up and it looked like you stuck your thumb twice too without flinching

The thing with Skipjack is this, they are a great eating fish, BUT they are BY FAR the most fragile of the edible tunas, essentially they aren't forgiving if treated improperly. If you bleed them properly ice them straight away and eat them within a couple days or vac seal before freezing they are amazing, and id agree 100% very similar to Yellowfin, but if you don't bleed them properly, leave them on the boat for 30 mins before you ice them, leave them in the fridge for 3 days or don't vac seal before freezing, ect, THEN that is when they drop in quality massively, where as the other Tunas are more forgiving and hold up better. Thats where the "Stigma" comes from, people that simply don't treat them in the proper way only to complain haha, truth is people that know what they're doing and take care of fish properly love Skipjack! Awesome vid girls 🤙🏽, keep it up 🎣🔥

Totally agree, bleed them, gut and gill, fill with ice then bury it in the icebin for 6+ hours and it is as finer eating fish as there is

I love that the first thing you said after catching the skipjack was that it's a delicacy in hawaii. We call them Aku and larger ones over 20lb we call Otaru. They're the fishermen special. Many local fishermen prefer them over yellowfin tuna for the dark flesh and full flavor. Great for sashimi or even brined and dried as fish jerky accompanied with poi. After filleting, the center bone is dredged in flour and cornstarch and fried for what we call "aku bones".....we even had a restaurant in Honolulu named "Aku Bone" lol

Yes we do! Those are gold here in Hawaii. And a lot of local Hawaii people really like the “fishy” taste of fish. We fry the slabs, and we leave some meat on the bones when we filet them and cut the bones up into pieces about 2-3 fingers width and fry them up also with just garlic salt and pepper. A lot of people don’t even cut the bloodline out and leave it on when they cook the fish.

Bbq tuna salt, red flakez pepper, lemon. Mayonnaise like a dipping sauce. I miss the island i enjoy the low tide fishing when a fish is trapped in low tide either we catch for cooking or release back into the reef or deeper water. I got to try teriyaki sauce one day awesome video.

But if I had to choose a female fishing channel, it would be the Gale Force Twins as they are entertaining and informative. Actually Male or Female they are one of the top channels. Love the boating tips, the fishing tips and the cooking tips. Keep up the good work. (wish I lived in Florida and not cold and wet Scotland :) )

Hi ladies! Greetings from Texas! I love the content ; just found this channel a few days ago & have been binging your channel ever since! I should definitely check your more recent videos but I was wondering if y'all have considered a 360 camera? I feel like you could stay in the action and not have to worry about the cinematography in the moment, i.e. where to point the camera. You were laughing about how you missed that shot of the grouper eating out of your hand. I feel like with a 360 cam you wouldn't have to worry about missing out on shots like that being that in post production you can go back and ensure the camera is properly focused on either the fish or your sister depending on where the action is. Oh, also the underwater shots you have cut in every now and then are so epic and I would personally love to see more of that! Maybe PIP style; I just think that would add an extra dose of marine life & bluespace to the video that would take your production value to the next level. Again, I love your stuff, I'm so glad I found this channel, and I'm looking forward to following y'all on your journey as professional fishers!

Yellowfin is actually my fav. Never ate skip jack. Usually use them for bait. Excellent sharkbait. Never caught a blackfin. 😞 so haven’t ate one of those yet. You girls living the dream. Keep it up. Do you know anything about fishing Panama City FL. I am most likely moving my boat there next year. I would like to learn how to target blackfin tuna and other offshore species there. Wish I could reach yellowfin tuna but I think that’s to far a run. Out of AL all close to Pelagics I believe. I am a / was a NE fisherman. Fished out of NJ targeted bluefin. Yellowfin. Mako. Thresher. Caught mahi. But didn’t really target. Am I rambling? LOL. Keep it up ladies. Love watching ya. .

I'm also in NZ and love eating skipjack. I find it's best to gut and gill the fish straight after a couple of minutes of bleeding then, put saltice in the gut cavity and then bury it in the icebin to chill right down. Highly under rated fish in NZ, but I think the issue with them is if you dont look after it well then its not as nice as when it's been well cared for
