Last October I've rented one for a 3 weeks vacation in Romania, see my family and friends. She was a 1.0TSI 6MT, fairly equipped white rental car. I found her spacious enough for 4 adults an one child, very practical with the hatch style boot lid. I like very much the minimalist, teutonic design (born and raised in EU, go figure). The only downside is that, overpassing it's a little bit tricky, sometimes, with the power that this small engine delivers, otherwise quite apropriate for normal use. For reference, my daily car is a Focus 2018 (2.0 DCT).Congrats for the presentation, you are one of the best EU car reviewer, at least in my oppinion!

Test drove an Octavia 1.0 TSI with a DSG gearbox. Performance was good enough. Also very comfortable seats and a good driving position for me (183 cm).

Today i see 2.7 lt/100 km on a little bit downhill road. Such a nice engineering.

I also own an Octavia. 1,6 TDI, 81 kW (110 bhp). My experience until now: Excellent consumption figures for this big girl: ~7,5 l/100 in the city, ~4,8 l/100 outside the city. These values were obtained while driving in a normal manner: not too sporty and not too lazy. Just keeping up with the traffic. Start&Stop helps saving ~0,5 l/100 in the city, but that's about it. Huge trunk, as Marek said, and also a lot of legroom both in the front and in the rear seats. Amundsen satnav is just enough for me, I do not feel the need for Columbus. Still, a little flaw chews on my nerves: it has a bit of lag. The arrow representing the car is 5-10 meters behind the actual position and that made me miss some turns. The rear view camera is just brilliant because, even if it costs ~250 euro, it saved me other several hundreds of euros which were to be spent on repairing the back of the car. The design of the rear seats and the rear window doesn't allow for a great visibility, so the risk to hit something when reversing is quite big. Go for the camera, no doubt about it. Bixenon headlights: way better than the halogen, from my point of view. Better illumination because of the white light and also thanks to the AFS and that "city mode" feature which makes the headlamp on the left side to move a bit to the left when you do less than 50 km/h. In this way you get a larger light angle in front of the car which is quite helpful in a darker street. Bluetooth for the phone is also nice as long as you are alone in the car and you don't turn the volume too high -> people on the street will hear everything. The Canton audio system is just nice to have, the classic audio system from the factory is more than enough. I also love that you can get all three mirrors with autodimming, I do enjoy this a lot when I am driving at night and somebody with wrong adjusted headlamps drives behind me. The signal lamps on the mirrors have a small design flaw: the bit situated at the end of the mirrors sends light also to the driver and the one on the left is a bit annoying, as it flashes in the visual range of the driver. It is ok by day, but it is a nuissance during night driving. The plastic piece situated at the base of the gear shifter: at my car it is grey and shiny and it reflects the sunlight directly into my eyes when I drive around noon in a sunny day. This also applies for those chrome decorations at the ventilation holes. That what came into my mind now. If other details are needed, I can try to answer. :-) Cheers & drive safe!

So tell me about the 1.0 engine: how does it drive, overtaking, under powered etc.

It is the sensible choice. My wife would choose it because there is so much room for everything she wants to buy , despite the fact that we are retired and have everything we need. So I have decided on a Mazda Cx3 because it's a cool looking car , good to drive and has limited space for shopping , which means we will save money.

Not very sure of 1.0T in Octavia as I had a Bora 1.6S thought engine was too small.

I'm in the market for a gorgeous 2.0 TDI, 3 years old with tons of equipment, 13k €. Not a lot of money for, apparently, a lot of car, it's slowly edging out 4-year-old Passat estates in roughly the same price bracket, only on the account of equipment.

Hi, I recently bought a new octavia, 1.5 TSI; and I already ran into an issue: avg. speed, consumption and distance reset randomly all three functions (current, long term and since refueling). Did anyone else have this problem, and what did you do with it? (Other than taking it back to the dealer).

Is it a reliable and durable car ? Engine shouldn't break down every now n then

I own a 1.4 TSI 140 BHP and feel even that is a bit on the weak side, especially when loaded with lots of stuff in the back. I can't imagine driving a tiny engine like this.

Is the DSG dry or wet clutch ? Which model of DSG is used in this car?

Not overly negative. I guess you got up on the right side of the bed the day you did this one. So if you had to choose between the Karoq and the Octavia with the 3 cylinder, which one would you have.

Had a 1.6 diesel version of this car on hire for a few days. I found it to be practical, spacious and quite comfortable. It's generally easy to get along with, but it is very boring in every way. It is completely devoid of any flair or fun. A competent but souless vehicle.

Hi Marek, do you have any observations on the new 1.0 TSI 110 HP? I just bought the last 1.2 TSI 110 HP Skoda Fabia in Romania because I was reluctant to take the newly introduced 1.0 TSI petrol.

I really do not get how YOU get such big figures when it comes to fuel economy. I just drove the Octavia facelift with this engine: temperature outside 3 degrees. 57 km/h with cruise control 4.2 liters. 95 km/h with cruise control again 4.2 litters. After that I drove it without cruise control, and I got 3,8 litters each time. And that was in normal with ac on. Btw I am a terrible driver. So please, explain to me, how is it possible that you get 5.7 litters? You mean it is with city driving? If so, than this is very hard to judge because the consumption depends on how much traffic there is

What do you guys think about the endurance of this engine? I went for a test drive today with this engine, and it runs smoothly and surprisingly well performing for such a tiny engine. However I'm not sure what does it mean for the endurance, considering a small capacity engine for such torque and power? Will it reach 250.000 km and up? Or will it deteriorate sooner than that?

It's interesting how long this 1.0TSI engine will last. 100 Kkm and big engine rebuild?

Skoda always offers good value for money; it's their trademark. 😐 And by the way: never buy a 3-cylinder engine when you order a Octavia.
