When I sell a unit I always include a skullcrusher, it allows the buyer to use their new device that night. Costs me next to nothing and really helps out the customer, I also strongly recommend they give Team Wendy, OpsCore, or HHV a call as soon as they can. Skullcrushers can work, and are better than nothing, but people should factor the cost of the mount and helmet into their budget when looking to get into NV.

@@FocusTripp Part of the reason it took me so long to get into NV is because I wanted to make sure I could get a couple decent LAMs too. Unfortunately people will impulse buy the unit, not fully understand what they are signing up for, and then the unit either gets sold for a loss or sits in the back of a safe. It is a shame because NV is truly perspective altering, I do my best to demystify it as best I can, but some people still won’t listen and I end up taking in their unit on trade/consignment before too long.

That's exactly how I run my PVS 14. $15 Boonie, $30 knock off Nightcap, Shroud, Rhino, and I sewed an old Alice pouch on the back of the Boonie for a counter weight (a bag of cast boolits lol). It works perfectly, and makes me look slightly less insane than a helmet when I'm nerding around in the woods by my house. Highly recommend.

The place to save money with night vision is the illuminator and lasers. IR lights on Ali Express are excellent, and the SOTAC lasers ("Perst" 4, etc) are turning out to be pretty reliable besides the mounts YMMV

The crye skull crusher isn’t bad. My buddy has one in a get home bag with an omni7 pvs14 “budget” setup. The Wilcox mount is what really is over priced. I haven’t found any knock offs that make a good alternative to the Wilcox, unfortunately.

Very important point about skullcrushers is that they're the only way to run NODs with a boonie cap like Captain Price. Also 2500$ for gen II is budget? I got my PVS14 with an Omni VII tube for 2400$. Buying directly from a dealer can get you a much better price than going the retail route. Next step up for budget is probably what I did which is a surplus LWH for

Skull crushers: will they fit in a bag easier than a ballistic helmet? Yes, will they help you see in the dark? Yes. Will it crank your jaw to the side and give you a massive headache after an hour?
