So people are pointing out how Cory was upset and felt like Eric was leaving him out when they were teenagers. But they were teenagers, Cory’s not even really the fun loving sport kid that he was back then. People change. In this case though their father made it very clear both of them were to clean out that garage together. Eric was not aware of this because Alan told Cory to tell Eric and then Cory purposely left Eric out. Their childhood home, their childhood toys, their childhood memories. So I definitely understand Eric‘s anger and hurts in this.

@KF TY Cory and Eric have their faults. Long story short. Cory often gets put aside by his brother plenty of times in the earlier seasons. Cory shared his memories with Shawn and Topanga and invited them because he had the most time with them growing up. Where was Eric most of the time when Cory wanted to just do stuff with him? Messing around with getting a girl and doing things just because he's having fun being the young adult and older brother to the second son he put aside or puts down in their rivalry. When that happens so much, you may tend to assume your sibling probably wants nothing to do with the memories of growing up too, because of previous events that solidified your assumption. Being fair, Cory should have asked Eric too, but he got too used to being blown off by him.

If you don’t tell people what’s bothering you and why, people can’t know what’s wrong. I’m not saying they both didn’t have their faults. They did. The writing on this show was masterful. The conflict between Eric and Corey is very layered. Whereas Erics series moments were personal, which is why the garage hurts him so much, a large amount of Corey's trauma involves problems with others (Topanga, Shawns issues, etc.). That's why he didn't care about the garage as much, because his strength and focus are usually tied to other people

Exactly. That’s why I was surprised at this episode Cory was doing to Eric just want Eric did to him. @davidrosensin7985
@davidrosensin7985 Жыл бұрын
@@dannigro8794 Emotions are irrational. Eric had every right to be upset about what he was upset about. The crux of the issue isn't necessarily that they don't do anything together anymore (as he says in the scene) it's the fact that Corey specifically didn't plan to do that with Eric, so instead of having a moment for the 2 of them where they could go through those memories, Eric showed up only to find that moment being taken by someone else. Eric rarely lashes out in the show, but when he does he usually has a reason for it. Here it's because it's difficult to think about your family preferring to spend a family moment with someone other than the people in their family. With all of Erics quirks and goofiness, he does love his family and he is generally there for them when they need it...but there are a few times in the series where that consideration isn't extended to him.

We took it for granted that he'd just be around, in the background, while we were off with our close friends. We didn't think he needed anyone, let alone us.

I'm really glad they captured this. You can only do so much with your siblings and being constantly fed a narrative that brothers are "supposed" to be best friends can be damaging. I've spent years trying to be close with my older brother. I tried to orchestrate outings based around his interests, I tried to talk with him directly about how I wished we were closer, eventually I realized I was the only one trying. You can't have a dialogue when you're the only one talking. Realizing I'll never have that Norman Rockwell brotherly love relationship I'd been convinced I was supposed to have hurt, but getting past that and realizing it wasn't meant to be meant I wasn't setting my self up for further disappointment down the road.

It was our younger brother getting married last month that was the catalyst to get him to open up. While he and I carpooled from the rehearsal dinner together, he admitted his regrets that he wasn't closer with me or our brother and apologized. He said what I'd wanted him to say for 25 years, but he said it nonetheless. We still might not have that Norman Rockwell-esque relationship, but we understand each other now, and there's love. I really don't like how so many shows show brothers being best friends. Most of the time they're not. They're just kind of around a lot of the time but still living a completely different life than you are. Same with sisters. You get on each other's nerves. Your humor is different. You're somehow only alike in all the most annoying ways. You both have your own friend groups. It's important to be there for family and try to do family things, but they often can't be your best friend.

When the show first started, Eric was being a teenager, he’s focused on his vanity, popularity and goofing off. Anytime he spent w Cory was usually because he was stuck bc of his parents giving him an ultimatum. But there were times he wanted to include Cory. Like the double date scenario where he brings Shawn. Eric wasn’t a jackass he thought of his little brother first. As senior year approaches they bond a little more but it’s like the graduation episode showed they didn’t have a real brotherly relationship until their trip. That was the start of them momentarily getting close as Eric tried making it in the real world. Cory was concerned that Eric was wasting his life, sure he wanted to have his own room but he was also concerned for his brother. Eric sees Shawn and Topanga kiss and hug misreads the situation and tells cory bc it’s his brother who he wants to protect from pain. He even confronts Shawn until cory finds out about topanga leaving. (This is where the parents marriage crumbles bc Jedidiah was having or caught having an affair.) Cory and his parents tell Eric he can retake the SATs and get into college and motivate him and hey he gets in. Cory pushes for Eric to leave and move in with Jack because he wants to be more around his best friend and gf. At this point Cory has pushed Eric out of his life bc he really only spent time with him bc Shawn lived in their apartment or holiday episodes. Or they interacted bc Shawn and Jack were there together. They both go to Penn Brooke but they only interacted when they were in a group setting, here and there they say hi but yes this is where Eric’s case holds water. Cory doesn’t really spend time with Eric anymore he doesn’t come him to talk about anything he goes directly to Shawn. He doesn’t even talk to him about Tommy bc Eric had already been down that road with the girl who had a son. Amy, Allen, Jack, Rachel and Mr Feeny are the only ones who are there emotionally for Eric when he has to let Tommy go but are proud of him. He showed so much maturity knowing he wasn’t in the right place financially to support another life and he showed great parenting instincts. Cory didn’t say anything bc he was busy trying to get topanga back but didn’t try and be there for Eric knowing how much Eric loved Tommy as much as a son. Erics identity crisis feeling he needs to change his image by cutting his hair to grow as a senior in college. They shared one mini moment w the Penny but that was it. Eric had a more endearing scene w Shawn trying to find himself after losing Tommy and Jack and Rachel to each other. Both Shawn and Eric felt so alone bc of where their lives were going at that moment but where was Cory. Yes Cory was battling his own challenges w topanga and still shutting Eric out. The rest of the series is mostly filler but you don’t see Cory’s character make the effort to bond with Eric the last build before the series ends was seven the hard way where pranks become the leak in the boat of friendship. Cory and Shawn’s selfishness and immaturity resurfaces and they go over the line and hurt Rachel amongst everyone else. Jack who was started to come off as a smug asshole hurt Eric in the worst way possible. Making him feel worthless by saying no one wants you. Shawn felt that pain that Eric felt and knew his brother went over the line. Erics loneliness really starts to build and he feels with Cory in this moment what Cory felt at the end of season 4 with Eric moving out for college the first time around. I’d wish there was one follow up episode to this one before the series ended where they really were just there for each other. The way they were both there for Jack and Shawn when Chet passed away. I’ve been in Erics shoes in the hospital scene of this episode feeling left out by family it’s heart wrenching. Will Friedle and Rider Strong really cary this series with their character growth. Most of Cory’s growth was momentary insecurity otherwise for the latter he was the voice of reason and understanding for the cast.

The best and worst part about this episode is Eric and Corey's relationship never really recovered. The role reversal in this episode was a surprise for me since, in the earlier seasons, Eric did exactly what Corey did. It was certainly hypocritical to a point; Corey was supposed to tell Eric but didn't. Like you said, their relationship never really recovered even in Girl Meets World, and it's the writers' fault for leaning on Jack and Shawn. Giving Eric Jack as a foil to Corey and Shawn was just lazy.

To me, Eric was the most interesting character on BMW. All the little moments of grit and growth from him were fantastic! And Will is so phenomenal, he nailed all those scenes. To me he was always the best talent on the show. They never allowed the character development to happen so when scenes like this come up, we have forgotten that Eric is multidimensional, extremely emotionally intelligent and just an all around phenomenal character. Of course I love Cory + Topanga and their love story. And Shawn’s journey was always great to watch. But I always hoped they would have let Eric blossom more. This lends more and more into the theory that Eric's Character change is because we are seeing characters through Corys eyes. How when he was a kid Eric was his idol a charmer, but as he got older his idea of eric changed. But every so often when Cory is confronted withnsomething huge he sees "the real person" here being a good case of "the real" Eric

Exactly how it feels like to be a black sheep of a toxic family where they shut you out of their life and refuse to acknowledge and involve you after you've addressed how you feel! Their family dynamic just wasn't as dismissive and mean about it as other families. But Eric was still made to be the joke of the family.

The majority of the main plots were about Cory and his age group, which pushed the other family members into supporting roles (later seasons you can see the parents are in less episodes for example). It was probably Will Fredile’s comic timing that kept him in the main cast and stories more often, which is a blessing and a curse.

This episode made me really sad watching it. It was extremely relatable because I had always felt this way with my own brother "I love you because your my brother but I hate you as a person". With Eric though I just felt bad because he was always such a sweet and genuine character in the later seasons. I do think that they went a bit too far making his character a complete nit wit. In the first season or so while he was goofy and immature he still had moments where he was serious/had good older brother scenes. In the later seasons his character was really nothing but a joke. It was like he was the cool fun older brother any little kid would wanna hang out with but as an adult acting a fool isnt funny anymore. Instead of admiring Eric for how fun and cool he was like he use to Cory ended up resenting him for how annoying and irresponsible he is. It was so sad because you could tell how hurt Eric was and couldn't help but say what everyone knew. Cory didn't like him as a person but felt like he had to put up with him as a brother.

Corey and Eric were arguing over Corey not wanting to include his brother in going through/getting rid of their old sentimental items. They decide to have a yard sale to just get rid of it all as Corey considered the items to not really mean anything, where they meant a lot to Eric. At the yard sale Corey continues to make an attempt to reason with Eric while a woman pesters Corey the entire time. He turns around and asks "Can you be any more annoying?", to where the husband shows up and punches Corey in the face. Eric hits the guy in the stomach 3 times only to realize it did nothing, the guy then punches eric in the face. I love moments like this in the later seasons that showed Eric's more serious side. It shows how amazing Will Friedle's acting is. It's so sad he went through a depression about his body issues and he got extremely self conscious which was why he went into voice acting instead but he has always been an amazing actor. As the youngest of 6 older siblings this I can relate to. Everyone insists that family MUST get along and be loving to each other. Honestly, this is almost impossible. Too many mixed energies and personalities plus some individuals are generally not nice people. Not all humans can get along just because they're related. Psychological, physical and mental abuse is involved and it screws up everything. You can love someone but you don't have to like them. It's funny and ironic that even though Eric became an eccentric character as the series progressed, he noticed things more than Cory did when it came to certain situations and moments. Cory may have "grown up" in his own way but there were moments that showed how blind, naive and hypocritical he was and Eric called him out on it in a way that had a ring of truth to it. What didn't seem like a big deal to Cory, turns out that it was in Eric's eyes especially since they're brothers but have grown apart as time passed and Cory is being an idiot as to how far apart they've become. In the end, Eric's eyes, mind and heart were open to the truth while Cory's were blind and ignorant to it.
