I'm not gonna defend the obvious creepy, but I gonna hazard a guess Feely has been alone with female students alone. That isn't the issue. Vast majority of men aren't rapist monsters even though that is what we are told.
@Lurklen
@Lurklen Жыл бұрын
@@volourn9764 In their room? Maybe with permission of one of their parents, and maybe with *these* students, who he has knowns since they were small children. But just any other student? I doubt it. Regardless of whether the majority of men are or are not monsters, some of them are. And regardless of the gender of the teacher, the inequalities of the relationship mean that when a student and a teacher are alone in a personal space, there are vulnerabilities that come up. This is the reason for certain behaviors of decorum, this is why Feeney questions the appropriateness of the action. The protocol of how to act with a student is a protection to safeguard students, and teachers, against these vulnerabilities being exploited. Because the monsters don't come with labels. And while I believe and hope that they are in the minority among people in general, I also know there is no way to tell the difference until it is too late. So caution is warranted, and when one decides to step across those formal bounds it is worth a critical examination.

You hit it right on the nose. He was pushing the boundaries just by even entering the women's dorm building at all, to say nothing of when and after he arrived at her room. If he really had honorable, innocent intentions, and needed to discuss her paper, her grade, etc., then he should have just discussed it with her right there in the classroom (after class), or requested her to meet him in his office, or at any public place would do, such as that student lounge, that they referred to as the student union.

It's also worth noting that, when he's in Topanga's dorm, he says (and I quote) "I'm your teacher, and I like you. And we're not talking about the paper". If Stuart really wanted to talk about Topanga's paper, he would have asked her to stay a few minutes after class to set up an appointment in his office, or at the college library or the study hall. These are public places with many individuals. But did he? No. He sought her out in her dorm room, which is considered a private place for students, because he knew there would be little to no prying eyes. He violated her privacy by entering her dorm under false pretenses.

The thing is, her dorm room is her domain, if he really wants to prey on his students, he would have asked her to be somewhere he's in possession of power. Like his office, or something similar. Where he knows nobody will disturb him, or has any preying eyes.. Instead he was in her domain, with an open door, where her boyfriend could walk in at any time (which he did) So except for his behavior with the disregard for her answers, I saw it as him trying to act out that vagueness that he told she had in her paper. Especially since the micro expressions he showed, indicated that he wasn't in fact interested in her.

It is extremely odd to go into a students room to discuss an assignment. A dorm room is a bedroom. A dorm hall is a personal space for students. There are girls coming out of the halls bathroom in robes and towels. When I lived in a dorm there were even girls in the lounge changing and getting ready for dinners, events, dates, and all kinds of things like that. I give Corey full respect, he showed great devotion to her. Love the line of "he just is using his power to take advantage of her" LITERALLY should say to the dean or jury that he is guilty. In reality,some women in college do go through that believe it or not. I haven't myself but some do. Anyways,I loved how he acknowledged what he was doing whether or not he believes or the audience believes he's innocent. He simply said that it he knew it was wrong he just thought that it was the only thing he could do at the time. Which I mean sometimes we all get those I guess "heat of the moment" where we do something that maybe is unlike our character like for example throw some hands, but we think it's the answer in the moment when we know it was wrong. Plus he had the right, it's his FIANCE! it also made me just sick to my stomach hearing him say "I have relationships with my students outside the classroom" 🤮 like NOOOO SIIRRRR DOONNNTT GO THERE!

I really appreciated how the episode handled this subject matter. Though I wish they had asked for Topanga to tell her whole side of the story after Staut did. While Cory's line was great and he was right and it was great that he stood up for her, I wish Topanga had gotten a chance to speak for herself, too. I've also seen a lot of people say this was bad because not only did he hit on her, but he admitted it to her fiancé, but even if Topanga was single, his actions would still be innapropriate and reprehensible. The fact that the teacher tried to blame it all on her and the fact that there are still guys like this in real life who would try to justify his actions and put the blame on her disgusts me. He was the one in a position of power and he took advantage of that. A man is responsible for his own actions and should be held accountable if he abuses his power like Staut did.
