Skyline Drive And Blue Ridge Parkway Motorcycle Trip Day 1 Amtrak Auto Train

8 жыл бұрынStarting out from home in Holiday, FL I get over to Orlando to board the Amtrak Auto Train that runs up to Lorton VA just shy of DC. In theory this leaves you fresh, ready to tackle the roads as soon as you arrive. Some notes that hopefully will be helpful to others...if you are 6'+ you need the big 4 person rooms to get a bed that's big enough to actually sleep in. The tracks north of Georgia suck, and when you hit them it's right when you are trying to sleep. Bring pills! The food and drinks are Disney priced - BYOB. If you are bringing a bike, it gets unloaded last, a 45 min wait after getting off. It was nice hitting the road fresh though!

Thanks for the great review of the Amtrak Auto Train. I've been curious for some time about loading up the bike on the train and taking a trip. This provided great insight into the logistics of traveling.

I like your video on the train. Best one I've watched yet. And I watch a lot of train travel clips. I took a journey back in '95 from Little Rock to Phoenix and back - in coach class. I took a bike cruise from a southern point of Skyline Drive about 60 or so miles from Front Royal and exited to I-66 and back to Maryland. It was a spectacular trip. Thanks for sharing. Go Navy!

I've taken amtrak coach and it's not that bad. Still MUCH better than a plane. Cold beer and microwave pizza! Big seat!

Greetings: Found your video of the Moonshiner, then clicked over to this. I am doing this Auto Train as well, but will have a "4-wheeler car", doing my trip mid OCt this year. But I am not as far from the Auto Train station...kind of nice to see other Floridians doing videos...Woohoo!

I did not know amtrak auto train existed and I live in VA only an hour away from the lorton station. Looks like I am planning a motorcycle trip in fuckin Fl for my wife and I this year. ha ha Thank You Thank You for posting this video!!!

Wish we had an Auto Train on the West Coast, from Seattle down to LA, with stops at SF and southern Oregon. Wish we had one from LA or SF to the East Coast, as well. Wish they all would let you get on and off at any stop. That would be a great resource for riding around different parts of the country. Even if these trains only ran once per week.

This is great! Question for you: How did you find the "motorcycle transport"? Did they tie the bike down in the front only? Any damage, etc? I'm looking forward to getting on one of these

It's not a transport, it's one special train route only. Yes front only, non issue

Auto Train, what a great idea. I don't think we have anything like that here in Oz, I wish we did. As you can imagine distances are great and can be boring and lonely across the outback. Its hot to very hot and you have dodge all sorts of wildlife like Skippy etc. so this would be the way to go if we had anything like this. Is this economical or is it a luxury way to travel ? Such a shame how shit Amtrak is in comparison to euro trains. I’d love to see a high speed auto train east to west. There are so many amazing roads, but driving through the plains would be pure torture

I'm leaving Pinellas park Fl. for Pigeon Forks, TN. I'm on the fence about trailering the bike there and riding it with my wife. It seems to rain a ton up there and my wife hasn't traveled long distance yet. We only have 9 days what do you think? This was really helpful btw ty. Mark
