I am just a long time fan of chess commentary, I find it entertaining even though my game never seems to benefit, but IMHO, what makes this match unique is that you really are seeing the two best players in the world who are virtually equals playing net equal games. It was said previously on this channel that getting into a winning position against Carlsen was no assurance of a win, and that Carlsen always went into end games confident that he could outplay his opponent. In this match up, Carlsen cannot beat Caruana in a roughly equal endgame both because Caruana is as good in the endgame as he is, and because Caruana doesn't seem to get nervous. It would go the other way, but I don't think Caruana ever expected he could bully Carlsen in the endgame, he just knew he could hold his own. What I see in the middle game is that, while some opportunities are missed occasionally on both sides, neither side is able to gain a clear advantage, despite gaining a theoretical advantage, because both are able to come up with the best move time and time again until the attacks are exhausted. While I am rooting for one player over the other, I am not in the least disappointed with 10 draws in a row since they only seem to come because the defender manages to bar every door and defend every window until the attacker's ammunition runs out. While I haven't watched too many championships since Fischer-Spassky, in the ones I have watched, it always seems like the loser is the one who is either overwhelmed, or eventually slips. Neither of those things are happening here in this match between the two best players in the world. Congratulations to both of them. Wonderful match.

There are still two games left. Someone is going to lose. I think that Magnus is ready to pass the torch. I think it is a matter of Fabiano finding some killer spirit within himself, or Magnus losing the will to hold on to a ship in a storm. I hope Magnus does get supercharged though, I feel like he's not playing his greatest chess, but instead safe chess, which Fab does find some holes in occasionally. Wonderful competition indeed.

@@TheAstronomyDude why do you say that? I did think that Svidler could have shown many of the lines Giri mentioned instead of just dominating the conversation. Giri talks too fast for us C-players to follow. It wasn't the best, however, it wasn't pathetic. Sashy "Thug Life" Grishcuk was also too somber today. Must have been tired; takes a lot of energy to raise young children.

@@nirolf12 It's only 3 points of difference in elo, he's not supposed to win any game. Many draws is what you expect nowadays between those two players and their current level. 2014 Magnus would be another animal, but that's not the case.

The problem with Grischuk and Giri is that while they are quite funny, they keep attacking Magnus, th defending champion, while they are not even th candidate to win this title. I guess it's true that a lion doesn't listen to Zebra's opinion, because it just doesn't matter

I personally don't like Anish. He is obviously an incredibly strong chess player, but he has an annoying personality, not knowing when to shut up. Most of the time he's not funny but rather awkward. He's constantly Interrupting the other two, talking like a waterfall, giving unasked and unneccesary information. If anything, he should just make his own commentary. The chemistry between svidler and grischuk is the reason I watch their livestreams and a third person entering this should not grab the attention in such manner. He is a really special snowflake IMO.

@@ragilmalik I think you're wrong in two things: 1. Anish Giri isn't funny 2. They haven't attacked Mr Carlsen except maybe for this comparisson between Magnus and Skype, I guess it was somewhat rude. However Mr. Giri had a good point, perhaps it wasn't the best way to say it but it's quite accurated: Mr Magnus isnt keeping up, for while Carlsen was boasting about the size of his dick, Caruana improved his chess and elo raiting so if Magnus Carlsen keeps doing the same shit he wont be the highest rated player neither the best one as Caruana has been proving so. I want Carlsen to win but perhaps he losing the match will be the best for chess as, im sure, he'll be a hell of a player again. As for @Noah maybe chessboxing is your thing if you find this boring hahaha xd

The analysis of 33... Qc4 (at 25:19) and 35... Qe2 (at 26:08) is what I love about your videos. I think it is great commentary accessible to all. And then you couple that with the "sorcery" of the computer lines, it is all so well done. "The position is not without danger" indeed :)

Wonderful game! I've really enjoyed it and its analysis. Finally I also find a way, how to not miss anything, slowing down the video to 0.75, since the speech is very quick :D But obviously due to a lot of action squeezed into 34 minutes video. And my big respect to Agadmator, posting the video still yesterday. Obviously this channel becomes almost his full time job, I would say :) Good job.

Both of these gents are so equally matched, absolute brilliancy whether playing white or black, in that neither one ever seems to make a mortal mistake. It will be a shame to see one of them loose. To witness the defeat of one will be a sadness greater than the joy of seeing the other's victory.

With all these draws I've come up with a way to stop most draws from ever happening again while preserving most of chess. Give the king two extra abilities, which most likely would only ever come into play in situations that would have normally led to draws. 1) Summon Reinforcements, In lieu of making a move, the king can stay still, once he has done this a total of three times (not necessarily consecutively) place a reinforcement pawn in the back rank in either the same column or in an adjacent column to the one the king currently occupies. 2) Bounding Leap, When the king returns to a square he occupied the turn before for a second time in a row. (essentially where a draw by three move repetition would normally occur) He may move two squares in any direction instead of the normal one. #1 prevents Zugzwang from happening, and it also changes those situations where neither player wants to move.. #2 Can still lead to a situation where the king can't make move that does not put him in check but if your king is that locked down I say it's your loss anyway. I'd say there is still three move repetition, but if one of the players is moving their king that counts as a loss. and not a draw since that king should be leaping to a safe square.

Such a fighting game. If we happen to see rapid and blitz tie breaks, I am definitely hoping to see actual crazy lines going into all kinds of sorcery. Magnus being the favorite in rapid and blitz time format, I would even say he has a lot to gain by creating extremely complicated positions to make Fabi spend more time... although I'm positive they will take it safe as well and not create too many winning chances
