I'm now convinced that he did it to himself. It just makes so much sense that he would want to go down as a martyr and for the Empire to be lead by a younger, stronger emperor for the impending Great War II.

Emperor Uriel Septim VII: emperor for four elder scrolls games. Emperor Titus Mede II: emperor for half a game.

Just a little detail, but a really neat one. So, we know the Imperials are based on the Romans and as such Imperials often have very Roman names. However, as we watch the Empire crumble in Skyrim, we see echoes of the fall of Rome in the names of some of its citizens. Vittoria Vici? Adrianne Avenicci? Constance Michel? These woman are all Imperial, but their names take more influence from the subsequent Romance languages (Italian and French) that evolved from Latin following the Empire's demise, in the west at least. I know it's not much and there are plenty more Imperials who still have very Latin names, I thought that was a really neat bit of attention to detail.

I 100 percent have always believed he did it himself from my very first playthru. I think he used amamund to kill himself and his request is as you said, tying up loose ends

Hammerfell being behind the assassination doesn't make sense because even though the Redguards hold discontent for the Empire, allowing the empire to fall to the Thalmor (worst case scenario) would only lead to being surrounded by enemies on all borders. Also, high rock is across the Iliac bay from their chief port cities which would give the Thalmor a substantial base of naval operations. I would hope the Redguards would see this as a poor move if their motivation lies in further weakening a severely wounded empire. The aldmeri dominion has already made it clear they want to eradicate the human races from Tamriel so any alliance with fellow humans would almost become a necessity in the wake of another great war

Great points, it's definitely a hard one to judge. If the worst case did happen, and Thalmor has taken over the empire, then the assassination would surely have come from the Thalmor themselves. But given the political stance of Tamriel, I'm not so certain that would happen, it's almost certain that the group that performed this assassination would know all of this extra information and use it at play. If we follow the more common theories, such as Titus Mede assassinating himself , it twists the narrative and suggests that the Empire would push back harder with a newly empowered leader - but it's all risk in the name of war. Perhaps Hammerfell are gambling with the idea that the assassinations will actually lead to the next great war - but not against a severly wounded empire. They want the great war to start to weaken both the empire and the dominion, so they can act as a third party in the war and mop up the extra land. If there motive was just to weaken empire, I agree with you that it would be severely short sighted given how unfriendly the Thalmor have exposed themselves to be. Sorry if I went a bit on a tangent there, that's why I need to write it all in scripts! haha

I forgot to mention that I am definitely subscribed to the theory the assassination is being panned the emperor himself to die a martyr and boost imperial spirit for the next great war. Also, did you find it weird or odd that amond character mesh looks entirely different the second time you meet with him, that always stuck out as odd to me since it happens with no other npc in the game. Maybe its nothing, maybe it is just thought I'd share

@@Santo_Buzo_89 All good! It's great to have discussions, there is definitely no correct explanation until Bethesda decide to plan one themselves haha. Its definitely weird, there's so much changed between them that it does feel deliberate (even though some would say its just a developer mistake). I'd put it down to either Amaund having doubles himself, knowing that Titus would request he be killed as well, or Amaund in fact already being dead - and that the later Amaund is an imposter to give the illusion that Amaund is in fact still alive.

I still highly doubt that was even the Emperor, and not just another body double. He has a weird, casual way about his maneurisms that most of the other Septum line don't. He's almost...too casual to actually be a guy leading an Empire. Also, why is his escort so ridiculously light, considering he's in the middle of a civil warzone. He's either the most retarded Emperor yet, or a body double.

@@monkeysk8er33 Having multiple body doubles does sound like a great idea, and would explain a lot of the imperials lax attitudes, but then the Emperor would have to pretend to be dead? If he makes his presence known again its almost certain another assassin would be on their way, giving two body doubles had already been assassinated to begin with.

@@natiscool How long, canonically is the game of Skyrim? A year at most? An Emperor would absolutely keep things under wraps for months-years in this scenario. Egyptian Pharaohs did it several times. As did Roman leaders. It's the only reasonable assumption, all things considered. Fidel Castro had no less than 10 body doubles during the Cold War. A Septum having 2 isn't that hard to believe.

@@monkeysk8er33 This would definitely be plausible, I guess it depends on how powerful this force is that wants the Mede dead. They seem to know a lot about everything - put they could just have a plant in the Imperial forces that is only a few layers deep in the body double knowledge, and was just fed a cleverly placed body double on the Katariah. I'd definitely have put this theory in the video if I had thought about it, I like your thinking!

I think you may be correct. It all traces back to Hammerfell. To expand upon this what if this connects with the quest "In my time of need"? What if Saadia was the original assassin for Titus Mede? We've seen how the Alik'r treat failure. What if she's only lying about being a noble woman to keep her cover? I suggest if you want part of the story watch Camelworks video on The subject. Just keep in mind that Kematu is also lying. The Alik'r are indeed assassins and Saadia was one of them.

Mortierre is just a middleman. There are multiple people behind it. At least one is on the council, clearly.Titus didn't plan it, but he knew it was coming. Hell, he might have suspected it was coming when his cousin was killed. I get the feeling he's a smart man, and experienced enough to know how things work. There's a possibility they want the Dragonborn to take over, as they would certainly raise moral and give the people a hero to follow.
