Skyview HDX + ForeFlight Flight Plans | From iPhone to iPad and Skyview

I love using ForeFlight on an iPhone and I wanted to share my flight plans to the Dynon Skyview HDX, it works! Let me demonstrate how easy it can be!!
Transferring ForeFlight flight plans from an iPhone to the Skyview HDX and our iPad Mini 5 in Ginger has become a regular part of our flying. No need for additional interface software, equipment or yet another software subscription. It's simple, very straightforward and takes less than a minute to input everything - the only thing left to do is go flying! If you're considering a Skyview HDX Certified for your airplane then this is another great example of the incredible value you get from Dynon Avionics! As always, follow the great instructions in Dynon's comprehensive User Manual, this should always be your primary source of direction on how to transfer data.

I’ve flown with ForeFlight for the past 10 years and I really wanted to upgrade to Skyview I am so glad you did this video you made my decision a lot easier thank you very much…

Glad this information helps, I’m a huge fan of FF and the integration with Skyview HDX has transformed my inflight navigation experience. There’s no need for an expensive go-between software (FlightStream) or subscriptions for a monthly FAA Data update either. Skyview is an intuitive platform like FF, you’ll love it too! 👍

Great video !!!! As a 172M owner who just had a complete Dynon HDX system installed ..this was invaluable, very simple but concise and you didn't go off on any tangents, but stuck to one simple task and explained it very well !!!! PLEASE do more.....Thanks so much

Really nice panel. I looked up the n# wondering if it was experimental. Nope, but I guess Dynon is taking over the industry.

It’s a Dynon Certified Skyview HDX panel, they provide a lot of capability for the price. Garmin has their G3X panel, it’s also really nice but an arm and a leg for not much more performance than a Dynon panel. Either way it’s nice to have but steam gauges still work just fine, too! 👍

Excellent video and very helpful. My only comment is that the word "button" is not pronounced "bu-ehn".

Thanks, glad you found this helpful. As for my pronunciation, I’m originally from New England and that’s brings with it a whole lot of regional accent issues (R and H especially). I do know how to say “button” but that day I probably reverted to Yankee-speach 😉👍

If you change the flight plan on the HDX - will it update ForeFlight ?

Hi Paul, not that I’ve seen, no. Changes on an iPhone or iPad that’s connected to the Skyview HDX Wi-Fi must still be sent to the HDX and/or other iDevice by using the ForeFlight “send to” button. I’m looking though the Dynon manual, if there’s a way to send data to the iDevices I’ll let you know. Thanks for your question! 👍

Nice video, very well explained! I plan to get Dynon HDX when I get my plane. I have one question. On your diagram it is explicit that from Foreflight to HDX it is a one way communication. But what happens if you make a FPL change on the HDX? Will FPL remain unchanged on Foreflight? It would be good to know that FPL change should be done on Foreflight only.

Thanks, I make all changes on FF and send them to the HDX, it’s easiest that way. My understanding is changes on the HDX will not be communicated back to FF but I haven’t tried that. If that’s an important function for your flying I recommend reaching out to Dynon’s tech support for their expert feedback. Sorry I couldn’t give you a better answer. 👍

nice im a new foreflight user, we have an hdx in our school planes, and i have connected the ipad to the skyview but after about 5 minutes it disconnects. have you experienced that? any thoughts? it is an ipad 9 inch with cellular

Hi there, yep I’ve had intermittent “Skyview disconnected” alerts as well. Usually I just run on a cellular connection when that happens. I use my phone as the main interface with both the Skyview and my iPad so no problem. I’m expecting Dynon will put out a system update to fix any bugs (like this), if this is really a big issue for your school they may want to call the Dynon customer support team - there great!!
