Short video on slang words used in Dominica. I am very rusty with my slang I probably even sound weird but yeah.

Thanks for this, I’m from London with Dominican and Jamaican heritage, I’ve recently started to do some research into my Dominican side because I know nothing about it. Hearing the slang has been so helpful.

A Rare word we use is "Zorfi". E.g. "Boi mamzèl lookin like ah zorfi eh." Lmao

slang one: wa is di word? - whatsupp slang 2:weh I be deh nuh?- whats going on there/where am i ? slang 3: yessai- I respect that slang 4: who fuh yu?- who are your parents slang 5- hear dat/ listen to dat- listen to this slang 6- wat i hearing dere nah? what am i hearing? slang 7- look riddim! - (when music drop by a dj) wow nice song slang 8: ki sa?- what is that? slang 9: move from deh/ lef from dere- dont touch that slang 10:my padna- my friend slang 11: boy u sot/mad- Are you crazy/stupid? slang 12: doh make joke- youre not serious slang 13: mwen pa sav- i dont know slang 14: i is your size?- who are you speaking to like that?

A lot of those slangs are cocoy based so only said in the north east. The rest of the island has more French based / creole slang.

Appunto, ho sempre saputo che in Dominica si parla prevalentemente il creolo su base francese (romanza) e non anglo.

As Dominican, I am not familiar with some of these slang phrases. I would say many of these depend on which part of the island you’re from. Like Kweyol, Dominican English is spoken differently in different parts of Dominica.

Nope, I was raised in the U.S. for over 95% of my life. My kids, nieces and nephews knows more about D/a than me. I'm also half Grenadian. I know about Grenada than Dominica.
