I know he only figured out how the Fire Spirits work in a recent Daily livestream, but not giving them Amplify at 3HP will always give me heartburn.

One of my favourite Defect Ascension victories was an Exhaust run with Dead Branch. I had 3xRecycle+, 2xWhite Noise+ a Seek+, and basically survived by using Recycle to re-roll all the junk Dead Branch gave me as well as the energy to play whatever the next roll was. It was a wild time.

i think you got the idea of thin deck not being necessarily amazing kinda wrong, removing strikes is still good, just make sure to add actual attacks to the deck to replace them

Biased Cognition is like Wraith Form. Only play it when you know you can use the benefit to get the kill within the next few turns, or if it can immediately save you from death. Otherwise the Focus drain completely ruins your orbs, much like the Dexterity drain from Wraith Form ruins your defensibility.

Of course the one episode I miss is him beating A19. Also, this backlog is definitely getting out of hand. 2 a day maybe? Upgraded Zap is fine. - Hexaghost is the worst matchup for the Defect in my experience, but they're all pretty even honestly. - Like the early Doom and Gloom pickup. The second one is definitely overkill, though - I'd use the money for Static Discharge to tech against Hexaghost instead. Glacier is Glacier. - Definitely would take one Cold Snap over one of the White Noises. - Dark Shackles is just a really strong card. - Busted Crown is definitely very risky, but with so many 2 cost cards I can't help but feel like it's the right call. Not like Calling Bell or Cage would be that much better. (Cage's power is very invisible, which makes it hard to evaluate properly.) Act 2: - Egg gets overconfident, eats 12 damage from the Hex. - Panacea is huge. - Would have picked up the Barrage for some targeted damage. Also helps immensely in knocking down a possible extra Byrd + Chosen fight where NL doesn't just roll Echo Form Electrodynamics. - Definitely wants some fast block, though. Glacier + Autoshields + Dark Shackles helps, but he needs it consistently. - Nloth's Gift is hot trash with Busted Crown, so I'd just keep the Peace Pipe. Can always Toke the curse. - Just because you're not using Doom and Gloom doesnt mean you shouldn't at least Strike for 6. Also, if you have Biased Cognition up, you need to go hard and fast. - Glacier is almost autopick worthy. It's only a bad thing to have a lot of cards if they aren't good. - Definitely should have taken the read there - with Busted Crown, you have to take every opportunity you can get to find cards. - Has NL used the Blue Candle all video? - This is highly busted - NL has a Biased ticking, he needs to get damage out as soon as possible. Act 1, part 2: - While the Defect can't abuse Dead Branch as well as Silent or instantly win like Ironclad, Dead Branch is still absurdly good. - I do agree with early Ball Lightning over early Cold Snap. - Would have fought the extra enemy before fighting the Elite - NL needs the cards. A Ball Lightning is not exactly enough to win against non-Sentry elites unless he rolls like Creative AI from the Ascender's Bane. - He actually did get Creative AI... Still, I think he should have went in on that turn. The odds of that random being good enough to stall for was extremely low. - I'd go Barrage over Coolheaded; it represents more burst damage, especially with an upgrade. - Cold Snap is better than Coolheaded, IMO; while Coolheaded is stronger later Cold Snap is almost ubiquitously strong. - You take the Power Potion solely to fish for Electrodynamics against Slime Boss. Honestly, I wouldn't have even rested because of how strong his deck would be against the Slime Boi with a good Power Potion roll - Echo Form, Biased, Creative AI to a lesser extrent, Capacitor, Loop... - I hate Amplify. It's such a dead card in a ton of scenarios. Still, though, playing 2 Biased Cognition is really good. I don't like the other cards either, so I might have skipped this one. Act 2, part 2: - I almost never take the remove from Simplicity versus Elegance. Upgrading all Defends makes them pretty decent, and it's a bigger immediate power jump. - Always, always target the one in the back. NL overvalues the Wounds so highly in this fight - they aren't that much of an issue at all, because you'll win long fights easily. It's the turn 2 turn 3 burst that comes out from being Vulnerabled. Plus, even if you have the wrong target, spreading damage against the Slavers is asking to lose. - I think I'd have taken the extra Elite extra Campfire path. With a rest, NL crushes Gremlin Leader with the titular Horn and Biased Cognition plus Emotion Chip will let him facetank Book of Stabbing. Plus, his chances against the boss are extremely bad without some major help. - I mean, yeah. Biased Cognition crushes so much of the game that it has to get the nod. But Defrag is still extremely good. - 100% offer FTL to the Spirits, possibly even Amplify. I don't think that NL knows that the Fire Spirits do anything but remove a card, though - the full heal would have absolutely saved him. - NL definitely should have fished for something with that Boot Sequence. Still, though, he just didn't snowball hard enough. Probably the misplay on the Slavers cost him the fight.

NL you could have healed to max if you gave up one uncommon card to the purple spirits event, like FTL. For the most part it's a remove a card event but it can also be useful in situations like these

Defrag is better on slower, prolonged fights since you can recast it repeatedly. Bias Cognition is good on faster fights when you need to burst damage. Overall Bias is worse simply because it slowly starts to make you ineffective whereas Defrag really has no downside whatsoever.

Giving uncommon and rare, and maybe even common but not starting cards to the fire spirits heals you and/or gives you max HP. I believe, proportional to the rarity of the card given. That's the reason you get literal poop for giving them a curse card.

He's made it this far and doesn't seem to know that the purple fire spirits do more than just removing card. Definitely should've gotten rid of amplify (probably) for a full heal. Although that was probably a lost run either way being ascension 20.

That was the worst two judgement calls I've seen in Slay the Spire. If your deck isn't strong enough to survive without Biased Cognition, it's not strong enough to thrive against bosses. Defrag is a necessity, Biased is a luxury.
