In June 2013, the White House launched a search operation for Edward Snowden - the man who leaked information on American mass surveillance programmes. Despite this unheard-of diplomatic offensive to catch the "traitor" hiding in Hong Kong, Snowden walked out of Moscow’s airport as a free man 50 days later, and Washington had to admit defeat.
Narrated by the main character, this film explores the methods and pressures of the US government and the incredible events of this manhunt.
Documentary: Snowden’s Great Escape (2015)

Snowden is not the problem. If acting in the best interest of American citizens and letting them know their constitutional rights are being violated makes you an enemy of the state. Then that is the problem.

Did we get safer as a country because he snitched? If the program was no longer used (it still is), would we be safer? Seems to me Snowden thought he was doing something righteous but errored. Edit: You ever have a loved one die in a terrorist attack? Honest question

What was the american Constitution effectively no longer exists. First it was the Patriot Act. Although a **portion** of the Patriot Act was allowed to expire - for the american government, they use it like a Bible. And then there’s Obama Presidental Order 20; even worse than the Patriot Act - and that happened to be the item that set Snowden into motion to begin with

There are channels for that. While he brought attention to legitimate violations of the Constitution, he released information about legitimate intelligence collecting methods that put US national security at risk.

@@ChillaxinusMaximus I have not. The country has a constitutional right that is not to be infringed upon. The government could have legally listened to all international calls, but there was no reason to listen to calls between American citizens.

Edward Snowden will probably never return to the US. But to tell the truth, he never really lived there, because the country he thought he was defending (and which he believed he was defending even more when revealing the NSA scandal) doesn't exist. The US is a brutal and authoritarian empire in which legality and illegality are not really distinct things that exclude each other. Snowden discovered the existence of a dual State in the US (those who are familiar with the theoretical critique of the Nazi state will understand what I said) that already existed before the scandal he revealed and that continues to exist at this very moment. And now the American dual State is empowered by artificial intelligence.

Edward Snowden deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his contributions to democracy, in my opinion. The individuals responsible for Julian Assange's situation remain at large, considered by some as contemptible agents of the US who have inflicted suffering on countless individuals in Libya, Afghanistan, and Iraq, treating those affected as if they were insignificant. Humanity will not rest until we have brought the US to justice for war crimes and crimes against humanity. It is important to acknowledge that, since 1950, the United States government has intervened in 81 elections around the world, not counting the coups that have led to the overthrow of governments.. Historical records show that the United States has intervened in the electoral outcomes of other countries. The US dodges the rules the rest of us have to abide by. Australian protesters have blocked the roads leading to Pine Gap, a US CIA satellite intelligence gathering facility. They are protesting against the US support for Israel's actions, including alleged involvement in terror attacks and war crimes in Gaza and Rafah. The protesters argue that the US and Israel are responsible for the deaths of thousands of Palestinian civilians. Many Australians are expressing anger over the presence of US military bases in Australia, as they claim they never had the opportunity to vote on this matter. "Aboriginals want their land back. The native title claim to Pine Gap demands the departure of the Americans, as the US has endangered the sacred land of Pine Gap and Australia with nuclear threats with all the US aggression towards China. The US anti-China policy in Australia. It's almost as if the US media is obsessed with portraying China in a negative light, which is both creepy and laughable. The US wants to turn Australia into another Ukraine. Love and support to Edward Snowden from Australia.👍

Just consider the persecution of whistleblower Julian Assange as a journalist who did not escape government retaliation. Plead guilty and go free now or fight the case and the Government will throw everything at you in closed door prosecution and keep you locked up during the whole process and possibly forever. What a choice to make for Assange as a whistleblower, whilst the perpetrators of all the criminal acts he released go unpunished. If only Asssange had made it to Russia as Snowden did... just about by the skin of his teeth.
@tripwire8457
@tripwire8457 10 сағат бұрын
Since Assange is not a US Citizen, and was not on US soil when he did what he did, he could not possibly break any US laws, so how can they legitimately arrest him, put him on trial or imprison him? How could his own government allow it? If a Swiss citizen, or a Bulgarian or a Peruvian criticizes the president of Cuba or reveals Cuban secrets given to them by someone else, how can Cuba demand their extradition, trial and punishment when they are not citizens of Cuba. It's beyond ridiculous. But the US did it with Assange. The people in government, most governments, are not good people. Some are just plain evil. They don't like being exposed and willingly and knowingly commit crimes to cover up their evil deeds.

I remember when someone n Bklyn NY placed a sculpture of Edward Snowden on a cement block in Prospect Park. The sculpture would be removed hours later. To think this act happened in a borough of NYC proved the beginning of the disrespect citizens have for their government. America is so unique. It was created under the oppressive fist of the English monarchy, which hasn't improved one bit. America has so much potential, were it not for the excess of bad actors and parasitical foreign states determined to undermine it, one can only hope the light shines through and people in mass wake up to see how sharp the other side of the sword actually is. To have true freedom is very hard to express into words, to experience it is nirvana.

The 8 Billion of people in the world are too stupid to understand how much care we all must take of our heroes. These extrem intelligent people with an indescrivible high sense of legacy, of honesty, of Ethik, of democracy need to be protected from all us. They are so important for all us like the oxygen. If the world did'nt give birth to such high valuable persons, we were now all under global dictature of a few of criminals in our governments, which are able to eliminate every little disturb to complete their criminal objectives damaging the whole world. We need all to realise how important they are for the whole world. Long life to our heroes. ❤❤❤
