Indeed, behind the traditional love story, in fact he's truly dealing with what France is today, becoming closer to the extreme-right wing by the day and that has been the case for almost two decades. He deals with the rejection he knows, being of Arabic origin, whereas our Republic is / was perceived as something that guaranteed equality. It is truly a very deep song. The whole song also deals with his career as a singer, meeting his audience, wondering if his success is somehow justified. It's also an appeal, then. It also deals with the fact that whatever France does, that country is systematically evicted from the Eurovision: "Can't you hear the pain in my words?" There are just so many layers in this song, plus the great voice, that it is indeed a great song. "Do you love me? Or don't you?" 🥺🥺🥺
