SLING TSI AIRCRAFT REVIEW | ROTAX 915iS

I have been waiting 3 months to fly this airplane. It had been away doing airshows and demo flights but finally it was my turn to get my hands on this beautiful new experimental Sling TSI aircraft.
The Airplane Factory really out did themselves when designing this plane. With a climb rate of over 1500 feet per minute and cruise speeds nearing 150 knots, this sure is a thriller that makes you feel like a little kid. The performance improvements over the Sling 4 is amazing.
That Rotax 915is engine is unbelievable. With a rated horsepower of 141hp, turbo charged and fuel injected and all controlled by a FADEC system. This is true modern technology in an airplane engine and it is clearly expressed in the low fuel burn.
Whether you're doing cross country flights or just the fun flip every now and then, this aircraft will always give you that butterfly feeling.
In this video we go over all the new features of the Sling TSI and how it differs from it's little brothers. I hope you enjoy the video.

I've only recently found out about this plane and have been watching a few videos about it; of course Mojogrip too. This video is hands down my favourite though. Hearing all that highly professional radio talk gibberish on the american channels and you comes here and hears 'lekker man'. Brilliant! :)

It’s quite a nice looking aircraft, I haven’t had the pleasure of flying one yet, I’ve flown the Sling 4 and currently fly a Sling 2, I’m certainly a fan of the Sling, and have been for several years, we owned the first Sling in Australia, and now they are very popular here, for very good reason, they are a great aircraft. Thanks for the video, safe flying friend! 👍

Good video! I am impressed by the efficiency of such a small plane, faster than most motorbikes with same engine power. And still can carry 4 persons. With such a low weight it's easy to think that the balance should be significantly displaced depending on the number of passengers, still it works.

1:30 the intercooler doesn't keep the engine cold or cool, it cools the post turbo, intake air charge. Compressing air creates heat. Hot air increases predetonation. Boosting the fuel/air charge already increases volatility, so turbo charged engines are already prone to predetonation. Predetonation on a turbocharged engine will destroy it. The intercooler has nothing to do with the engine coolant temperature.

The original Sling 4 seemed to have a complex w&b situation with front seat, rear seat and fuel tank(s) weights all coming into play at various points in time and flight. If this one is the same, buyers should read about the one that crashed in Australia.
@ThomasMarrow
@ThomasMarrow 4 жыл бұрын
I did hear about the crash in Australia. All insurance companies here in SA will now only insure 3 up in the Sling 4. With the extra weight and HP at the front of the Sling TSI and the new wing design, this is a very comfortable 4 person airplane.

You can do either (factory built or home built), dependent on where you buy it. I’m not too familiar with the regs in the US but a lot of people tend to go with builder assist out there. The Sling TSI is not as bad as the Sling 2, reason being is that the TSI has an aluminum panel above your head and the 2 has nothing but canopy.

hogiebb1 in terms of getting a cheaper per hour rate and exposure to a modern glass cockpit, I would always choose the sling. The benefit of the 172, is that the aircraft is type certified and would be slightly easier in terms of an international training flight but all can be done in the Sling

Thomas, a turbo charger is not for cooling, as you mentioned, it is for RAM air. A turbo charger needs more air flow to compress the air density to make the engine more efficient. Please don't be misleading. Thanks

The only thing I doubt is when you said fully loaded with 4 people that it can still climb at 1,500ft/min. I highly doubt that on a Rotax 141hp engine even if its turbo. In this article they tested the plane single pilot and 300 lbs under gross, it was able to do 1,500+ climb rate but it won't do that at full gross. Really nice airplane but I still have reservations about the long term viability and longevity of the Rotax 915. I’d like to see a demonstration build of a TSI with a 160HP UL 390is FADAC (ULPOWER.com) or the Continental engine TITAN X340 174HP (Continental.aero). Both of these engines weigh less and are approximately 1/2 the cost of the Rotax 915 and do need the prop reduction gears. Just my opinion!
@ThomasMarrow
@ThomasMarrow 4 жыл бұрын
tizwicky Rotax trumps in after sale service, it is turbo charged (I fly in high DA areas), liquid cooled (no shock cooling during rapid descent and also not as heat intensive during a climb) and fuel burn is much better. I will need to double check on pricing and weight. Rotax looks to be about 10K USD more expensive.
@billwessels207
@billwessels207 4 жыл бұрын
The Rotax has liquid cooling for the cylinder heads and is therefore a much cooler running engine. It also is lighter in weight. Much more fuel-efficient. In short, the Rotax is a more modern design and power to weight ratio is much better.
