Right? I can´t help it but sense low energy everytime. Clown is like black metal to me: I really try hard to like it....I sincerely really do........ On the other hand, his uncle gets murdered, his wife has dissease, his daughter ODs. On top of that all the Slipknot drama. His life is not easy. I dnt envy him a second. But then again, maybe I do envy him being the Boss he is. I give him that. I dnt care how coldhearted he is in person, how many people hate him or whatever. I just wanna run my business the way Clown runs Slipknot. Period.

Slipknot was a band that helped me through a fucked up childhood. The fact they’re from Des Moines made me like them even more. Still got a copy of mate.feed.kill.repeat. and the original release of the self titled album.

R Mang I know exactly how you feel, Slipknot definitely made me feel like somebody finally understood my rage and resentment towards everyone and everything, the bitterness and hatred that come from years of torment. The trolls can call it whatever the fuck they want, but we know it is real shit regardless. The self-titled album was the first metal cd i ever bought, and it blew my fucking mind from "742617000027" to "Eeyore". The heaviest shit i had ever heard before that was the stuff on the radio: Korn, Limp Bizkit, Metallica, etc. Imo, none of those bands came anywhere near matching the intensity, fervor, and raw emotion that i could literally FEEL in every note and every verse. To me, that was the most awesome, badass, and heaviest fucking metal on the planet, and for years afterward, i remember that nothing else was good enough for me, everything i heard was just lacking....'something'. I still love nu-metal AND rap metal, so those first two albums were definitely right up my alley. Unfortunately, their music hasn't been quite the same since Corey lost his scream back in '02, but that's the kind of band they were/are: Balls to the fucking wall, giving 150% at every show, every practice, and every recording with zero shits given in regards to their own future or well-being. I'll always feel a huge amount of respect for that, even if their music isn't quite the same anymore, and over 15 years later I still wear my large tribal S tattoo with pride and fondness. Only 3 of my old Slipknot shirts have survived the journey of life, but the one I absolutely miss the most, is the one that said "Don't Ever Judge Me". I fucking loved that shirt.

A.K. Venom Hell yeah brother! I agree that after Iowa the insanity of the music itself reached its peak. I’m in my 30s now but still listen to slipknot, snot, old coal chamber, etc... Why's this interview getting so much hate? He's not talking any pseudo-intellectual philosophy. He's not presenting Slipknot as anything other than it is/was. He's not saying anything that's untrue really. Most of it is his feelings, his personal life and their fans. Is it because he says Slipknot are one of the greatest bands ever? Well... firstly that's his opinion. I speak with a little more humility but I ain't gonna judge someone for being real about their own thoughts. Also, they are. If not musically speaking which is merely subjective they're incredibly successful, one of the most successful metal bands in history with a lot of noteriety and a lot of influence on the music scene. In that regard they definitely are. Slipknot also DID resonate very hard with a portion of society especially teenage and young males. It influenced what a lot of young people were and still are and for such a violent and aggressive band they had one HELL of an effect on the general population.

Awesome, Sam. I know I posted a comment here before but I'm posting another and also watching the video again because I felt the need to. That's because I've been going through some of the things that Shawn has been speaking about and also things the bring me complete disgust. I know that Slipknot has their own way of expressing themselves and I have my own which is all out, unapologetic, uncompromising release of angry, aggression, hatred and confrontation of everything that I'm pissed off about leaving no stone unturned. I don't have an official band or any official material out. I'm just saying that so readers don't get misled but I've been currently getting ideas together and creating a project where I totally release everything. Just needed to watch the video because I needed some fuel for the fire. Well wishes to you and also to Shawn. Hail Slipknot.

I used to live in a very richy-rich school district, where they all dressed like athletes or beach bros. Nero Forte was the first song I was exposed too, and the lyrics hooked me in. As I started to listen to more songs, I started to realize how much I relate to their message more and more. (Don't ever judge me, not the exact message but a summary) They gave me the courage to basically say "Fuk it! You have no room to judge me." And get over all the crap people gave me for even DRESSING differently.

I currently single handedly set up a 28'X40'X4' concert stage for a casino I work at in Wisconsin. I'm a white man in a natives land, but i am part of their tribe in spirit as they all know how absolutely hard I can bust my ass. I also do basic meeting AV and every single time I hook up sound to our convention center, I play SLIPKNOT loud as fuck!! Its the energy and the way slipknot delivers that motivates me and it always will. Thank you Shawn and members of Slipknot! Why don't you answer me how his philosophy makes sense? How does rage lead to "salvation". It is such an imbalance putting it all anger and nothing for the other side. Any extreme leads to destruction. That's just the nature of things. He's self-absorbed and hungry for power it's not for your own good don't you see that?

It’s an age thing man. I’m 39 and I feel the same as I did those 20 years ago. I have real bad mental health issues man. Major depression and always the thought of suicide. The effect of slipknot isn’t what you think and are portrayed via media or any normal thinking human. For me this represents everything he is saying. So what if he is sucking himself off man. Look I been a music producer for years and it’s so hard to “make it”. I can’t bend over and be a slave to the industry and I know this is why I will always be nobody. I know that and accept it. Clown is proud cos they literally said “fk u” and they made it. Name a single artist in the world right now who has the guts to do that? There is none. It’s pop gum swearing it’s not genuine and meaningful. I been down big time of late and you see the new video? It’s the first thing in fking years to make me feel something. We are maggots. All us lot. We are eating away at the BS of every day life but you know what? We fking have each other and there’s millions of us who feel this way about it. Slipknot have the same essence essentially as WuTang clan. It’s not just a group, band or act. It’s a way of life and a community of people all in the same boat. You should be grateful and actually appreciate we actually got to see these make it. There isn’t a band in decades that has risen to say FK U and still have a career. The control today is so overwhelming that you must kneel and suck it dry or you won’t make it. I envy these men and I’ll always always always be grateful cos when my demons beat me down, I watch some videos and I feel a bit better cos they give me strength mentally. Not violently but a calm and self control of adrenaline to fking believe in myself. RIP to members and family that are no longer here. They put the band first (maybe wrong in some ways we will never know) so use this energy and make something of your life. Rambling but this is why i said it’s more than just a band. When you get to my age and reflect you will appreciate the heights they have really got to and why they can be relevant anytime they want. Imagine Kanye grabbing a mic off clown or Jim? Haha guitar over he head and a hammer would come out. Nobody has the right to touch or even step to you. Believe in yourself. SLIPKNOT XXX

It is one thing to put together a mediocre band with masks and loud guitars that appeals to teenagers. It is far more difficult to create brilliant films like Guillermo Del Toro.
@fe5018
@fe5018 5 жыл бұрын
@@SaintNektarios they have a massive fan base spanning a far wider age range than you're trying to suggest here. There is more thought, creativity, and curatorial consideration involved in their aesthetic and visual output than what you're suggesting here. The Op's comment totally acknowledges Del Toro's brilliance; it's literally the reason for wanting the collaboration. So, other than stipulating that you think Slipknot are mediocre, your comment is utterly useless, pointless, and irrelevant.

Sure is an interesting thought. Industrial music is mostly technophilic or technophobic, electronic music usually has no depth or meaning, and indie shit, depending on the band, doesn't really talk about anything grand or important. I see a lot more creative freedom in metal music than any other genre of music -- so I'd have to agree with that statement, Glass.

I started listening to Slipknot in 1999. I heard Wait and Bleed on a metal grab bag type album which had several bands on it. I thought 'who are these lunatics? I've got to find out!!!'...bought their debut album literally that week after hearing them, sometime in August-September 1999 or something (that was a long time ago!). It took the first minute of sic to completely hook me. (In fact the song summed up my entire year at that point, but I digress!). I must have listened the whole album three times that day. Unlike other bands for some reason to this very day I couldn't tell you which song is on which album, because I had my eyes closed when I listened to it just absorbing it, and I didn't care what the song titles were. That's just how it went for me. I suspect that my own background might be why I gravitated towards them. I also hated the world that year, so Slipknot was the perfect antidote for me. They strike me as similar to people that I knew growing up (I'm about their age). They say the things I never could have when I was a teen. What Shawn said comes as no surprise. He strikes me as an intense guy that creates Intense music for intense people. Mad props to the Nine...

Yeah, absolutely true. I get everything he's saying. It's ironic that the people who don't are doing exactly what he just said in the vid - Fuck It All, Don't Judge Me. Well, if you aren't getting a person it's probably just you. No need to judge others or call them "pretentious", "nonsensical" or whatever else. In fact, in my experience most of the people I've met who like labelling others that are never as honest with their answers, or never think that deeply about them so they tend to give short, superficial answers that say very little.

In this interview, Shawn looks like a cross between Ihsahn and Ed Kemper (serial-killer). I get the impression that if he wasn't in Slipknot, he'd probably be dead or in prison. The stuff he talks about where he used to video-tape animal corpses and study maggots and shit is what they call a "precursor". I guess it's a good thing he attained a positive artistic outlet for that shit. If not, things might have turned out very differently. I had a child-hood friend that used to fixate on death just like Clown did as a child. He's now serving life in prison for doing some crazy shit that I'm not gonna go into here.
