As a former casino employee, I would like to give the following advice: 1. Don't play slot machines, they are addictive. 2. If you do, use only as much as you can withstand losing. Set aside before you start, never go over it. 3. If you are lucky to win a bigger win, be happy but do not think it will happen again.

Excellent advice! I never played slots until I was around 45 yrs old. I won approximately $3,500 on a $2.00 after only 3 pulls $6.00. I became addicted very soon after that "big win." But after my husband was laid off, my addiction was just about done!

It's true. I've never truly won from slots. If I did win, I couldn't walk away because of the awesome flashing lights and sounds lol, so it would end up gobbling the money I won and then some. Table games on the other hand, I have won. It's not wise to play those either, but it's the least unwise category of casino games. You can get lucky at craps, baccarat, blackjack, etc. like I have. Those are games I can truly say I've won at before. I've never really been able to say that about slots for the most part.

I worked for a casino and I play slot for enjoyment, like the majority of people. There are a minority of people who can and will get addicted to anything, food, sex etc. People with low will power and IQ will get addicted to anything. I guess it’s easy to demonize casinos because the owners are making big bucks of of people’s stupidity.

We were in a local casino awhile ago and talked to a young woman who was at a machine asking her how she was doing that day. She said she was down $2700. We asked her how often she goes there. 'Every two days.' Another guy , quite poorly dressed was feeding a thick stack of hundred dollar bills into a slot machine, and noticed that the more he was losing, the faster he fed the money into that machine.

There absolutely is a drug/chemical involved with gambling addiction, and it is called dopamine which is in the brain and is constantly released while a gambling addict is anticipating a win/reward. So, the winning part is highly addictive in itself, but the anticipation of (hopefully) winning is the huge addiction and definitely has the same effect as heroin and crack cocaine. Gambling is pure evil, and slot machines are the absolute worst.

When I was into gambling heavily, one thing I learned is it's fairly easy to get ahead by say 50 or 60 dollars-but that never seems like enough, you always think you can double that, or triple it, and end up losing instead lol...it's fun but evil. i'm glad i took a long break from it..

My "system" is to set a walk away amount. I go in content on losing my entire budgeted bankroll (and not a penny more). However, I'll set an amount that if I ever reach I will walk away. For example, I might go in with $250 and say $500 is my walk away amount. I'm either leaving down $250 or up $500 or more. However, once/if I do reach that $500 the day is finished.

Every 4 or 5 months, I take $300 to the casino to play the slot machines. I never really expect to win, I just like all the new “bells” and “whistles” on the new slot machines. I find it fun and exciting. However, wether I win or lose, to me it is just a form of entertainment. Nothing more. Nothing less. I don’t enjoy going out to expensive restaurants or shopping at the mall buying things I do not really need. I am not on my cell phone 24 hours a day walking around like an addicted zombie. My life is simple to say the least.

Stopped gambling 5-21-18 (almost a year now) and attend Gambler's Annonymous meetings weekly. For me, it's not so much about gambling but more about needing to 'numb out' and to not feel the pain of my very existence. The urge to gamble is still strongly there but through the Gambler's Anonymous program (and the help of a Higher Power) I am rebuilding a life where I don't need to escape anymore. One day at a time.

I won 1,847 and then 800 in same day. Took the money I won and paid off the cruise partner and I are going on next year, bought Christmas gifts for my family and kept 200 of it for myself. Went back to casino with that 200 and doubled it after playing all day. (And receiving free soft drinks and free dinner) Once I doubled my money I went up to the free hotel room and slept. Left the next day. Did I want to play more? Sure! Did I wonder if I could turn that 400 into 4,000? Naturally. Technically I could have played back down to the 200 I came with. But I left. Somehow I stopped and even with a new Casino opening right in town (I use to drive 110 miles each way) I don't have the slightest temptation. I have become addicted to zero debt. I now have millions of dollars. I'm so afraid of losing the money, I'm miserable. It's better than the gambling but it's not a good life.

There are certain machines that I play! I never play the modern 40 line machines that tell a story! I only play the old fashioned slot machines! I never play penny or quarter slots! When I go to a Casino, I allow myself a certain amount of money to play slots! If I lose the money that I have allocated myself, then I walk away. If I win a few line hits, and make a profit, I walk away happy! If I put in $200 in a $5 dollar slot machine and win a few line hits, not hand pays but line hits that doubles my money, then I’m happy with a nice small profit! If you have a serious problem with losing your hard earned money, then seek help!

I totally agree -- it is very unusual to have a player, a fan of slot machines defend an industry that does not normally have a human face. There are a lot of regular players who really enjoy slot machines as a recreational activity. I often forget it is even gambling. Here is a big tip. If you must play slot machines, (they are not really slot machines because there are no coins involved) do not ever play the penny slot machines or any slot machine that has more than 3 reels. The so called penny machines will compel you to play all lines. These penny machines are now costing you a dollar or more.

Lol damn, see I figured out the right way to “gamble”. My co worker lost half a million and stopped going but he still gets $55 a day free play so I go, whatever I win with that $55 I take home I’ve made thousands for free this year and don’t put any cash back in.

it only will take everything if you don't know when to stop or set yourself a limit. when i go to Vegas i set my self a gambling budget and never go over it. and if i do get lucky and win some i put what i brought back in my pocket and only play with the winnings. and i never play the slots i prefer craps or black jack.

Absolutely, Gov. Rendell found an easy solution to handle his state debts (while probably getting some kind of kick back) But its like profiting off a friend. Rendell has lost his own moral ethics. I hope none of his family ever come down with a gambling problem.

I use to spend way to much money going out to the movies and escaping. I only spend a little doing the movies now and a little on the new casino about 20 miles away. I am not the casino addict type but I see why governor Ed Rendell says they would spend that money other ways. I would just go see more movies to escape. Or something else for the entertainment.

If only more people would do some research on "Server Based Gaming". Most all newer casinos use this latest slots technology. Pa. approves of it, and why not? It means more for their cut also. (058 Pa. Code 461a.21. Server Based Slot Systems)

Facebook slots are even more dangerous - in terms of their addictive potential - than casino slots. The player doesn't even have to get up and go to an ATM for more money. You just click - and it comes out of your bank or paypal account.

Disturbing. But I understand the irresistible "upside", and why many states have gotten in on it. Dr. Shaffer has published books on overcoming gambling addiction; I'm guessing that his point is that gambling addiction exists, but cannot be attributed to a single machine.

The issue with gambling in casinos is that that games are fixed. Its rare that you win. The real winner is the casino. The deceptive part of gambling is the illusion that you can win & that's the real issue.

Wath you said surely prove you don't know anything about addictions , the problem of all addictions is control and none can control it, sure all those addicted will love to find a way to control their addiction . You said free will that right, but knowledge had to come in first before a person can exercise their free will when people were told this just a fun game and their mind find it so exciting for many reasons it will become not just a fun . it's not easy as you may think . maybe you are just one of many deniers of the problem .
