Only 4 comments. I'm not particularly surprised. I read this book in 1996. Hot off the presses. I was 14 when the Bork hearings were on tv (July 87). I saw Borking live. I saw the light 🕯️. I became a republican. Thank you for your gift: Mr Bork. You did an honorable job.

So I was born in 86' and obviously didn't watch the hearings. However, I have seen it on C-SPAN and KZfaq. I'm still trying to understand why he didn't get confirmed. I will say this Senator Hatch seems like the best Senator I've heard in a hearing yet...

@@daddymcsnacks_561 wow, you were just a babe. I was 14. It was nasty seeing Ted Kennedy getting all the attention. That attention was played up by the press. Anything Bork mentioned was just overlooked. It was July 87

@@daddymcsnacks_561 You're right about Specter. He caught Bork completely by surprise. If you want to know why Bork wasn't confirmed, the answer is early in the hearings, when they asked him to talk about his part in the Saturday Night Massacre. As several of the democratic senators noted, Bork was central in the worst constitutional crisis since the civil war, and many of the senators still in office questioned his ethics. Much later in the hearings, Specter called out Bork for writings that Bork had tried to explain away as intellectual musings, noting how Bork essentially wrote a roadmap for erasing decades of social progress with a morally shaky, though legally defensible thought process.

I have been devouring lectures on your channel. Thank you for posting them. I came to the channel for Fr. Schall, SJ, and have been gratified by the other lectures I’ve found.

I’ve just discovered this wonderfully learned, witty commentator here. As a possible “Olympian,” I find many of his points deeply thoughtful.

Sadly we keep slouching towards Gomorrah if we are not already there

I suspected Robert Bork would be funny, brilliant and prophetic, from watching Thomas Sowell endorse him in 1987. And Bork is all those things and still more. A great man.

I read two of his books. I also have my federalist handy. I like the federalist. Hamilton, Madison and Jay were very compelling. The papers were beautifully written. So well done. It's a piece of American literature that unfortunately gets scapegoated alongside the constitution and the bible. The left hates americana. Bork did really inspire me. Welcome to 2021.

@@elderherrera2238 Their hatred for Americana is a by-product of their hatred for the God of the Bible.

I feel like Bork’s name keeps coming up more and more nowadays. I can’t seem to figure out why.

I’ve come back to listen to this in celebration to the overturning of Roe V Wade. Robert Bork would be disappointed that it took so long, but relieved that it finally has happened
