In today's video, we are Slow Stitching Some Beautiful Chaos as we create the background for our March Panel. This is Part 1 of our March Stitch Along where we will be taking inspiration from spring flowers to create our piece of textile art.
If you like what you see and want to catch all the videos in this series, you can subscribe to this channel, and if you click the notifications bell, you will never miss an upload.
Join me at 2.30pm GMT every Sunday for a restful time of slow stitch, embroidery and textile art. Each month we are going to create a complete piece of art that we will create bit by bit each week.
Feel free to follow my design, use my piece as inspiration, or you could use the same techniques as me to create something totally original.
I hope to try lots of new things this year as I create my 2024 stitched journal. I hope you will come along for the ride!
Please tag me when you post your creations on social media. @featherstitchhouse and use #fshwingingit24 so that I can see your beautiful work.

As another had stated Wow the background is wild. However, with your beautiful stitching again Wow in a really good way. If you use acrylic on fabric, try using a fabric medium such as GAC900 by Golden. There are several other brands. This will make the fabric soft. Thank you for sharing.

That's a really great tip. Thank you. I am enjoying finding new ways of working this year. Some will work, some won't, but I'll learn something every time. My priority this year is to enjoy the process. A couple of years ago I would have persevered with my first version, hating every minute, but now, I'm allowing myself to step away. It's very liberating! I'm so glad you like where it's going. 😊

Have you tried mixing acrylic with fabric medium. It leaves a much softer hand. I love all your ‘winged’ projects. 😊

Someone else suggested fabric medium. I didn't know it even existed. It's definitely something I need to investigate as it will open up a whole range of fabric techniques to me. Who knows, I might even make a video about it! Thanks so much for watching. 🤗

I love the effect too. I think the key is the same variegated thread - it adds texture and interest without dominating. Thanks for watching. 🤗

Thanks Rae. Being in front of the camera is not something I particularly enjoy, but it does help people, I think. I'm glad you are enjoying this year's project. Your panels are lovely. Thanks for sharing them. X

I wonder if stamp blocks would work…this is really interesting so much brighter than the last two months. Spring is on its way. I have 12 cm of snow the last day, so no snowdrops, crocuses yet for me.

I think stamp blocks would be great. Give it a whirl and see what happens. It's nice to start seeing some vibrant colours after such a bleak winter. We've even had some sunshine here in the UK, which makes everything feel better. Your spring flowers will be along soon. 🌸🌷🪻

I love Canada so much. Perhaps those bright melt water colours that appear in the lakes could feature? Perhaps that hasn't started yet either though? 🤔 Nature will have some inspiration, I'm sure, and whatever you choose will be beautiful because you have made it by hand, and it's all you. Just have fun, choose colours you love and it will work. X

@@featherstitchhouse thank you! No real melting yet - warmed up lots in the last two days, but nights are still very cold (-11 c.). I appreciate your encouragement and supportive comments. Looking forward to doing more bits and pieces - that will most certainly include mountains in all the seasons 😍

If you thread your needle before you cut the thread and knot the end you cut your colours will go the same way and the twist of the thread will be in the correct position.

That's such a great tip. Thank you. I'm usually very careful because it's hard when you are dividing stranded cotton, but the camera sometimes makes me lose my concentration. I will definitely do this when I'm using perle though. It's foolproof!

Loved this - so different and a real inspiration. I hate mess too and felt your pain having dirty fingers-I would have to have had rubber gloves on to do the inking stage! 🤦‍♀️😂

I really wish I'd used gloves. I didn't expect the ink to be quite so explosive! It's mostly gone now. I think it was worth making the mess. I do like the way it turned out. 😊

What a wonderful fun color. That they are based of crocuses is so delightful. White, yellow and purple blossoms in flowers and tree blossoms are common here in South Central Kansas USA. Still catching up on February, looking forward to starting these bright playful colors.

I am in Lincolnshire in the UK It's the 2nd largest county in Britain, but is extremely rural. There are no motorways, there are 50 miles of pretty stunning coastline and 80% of the land is farmed. It's a lovely, quiet place to live.
