I think the separation between contest skating and street skating just keeps getting wider and wider, Street League used to be a place where street skaters could be competitive but now Contest Skaters are specialized in Contest style, dudes and ladies keeping it real in the streets just can't compete really.

One of the original appeals of SLS was seeing some of your favorite street skaters skating a contest. Now with the exception of a few people you're watching contest skaters that occasionally put out a street part. Kelvin Hoefler hasn't put out a street part in almost a decade. Gustavo Ribeiro demonstrated how disconnected he is from street skating by putting out a contest part in the streets. Felipe Gustavo hasn't had a street part since LRG 1947. It's just League Skateboarding now, they lost the Street feel

Weird filters, camera moving all over the place, zoomed in, I couldn't really feel the spots that folks were skating. I'm about them now but at the time I remember really wanting that beagle wide angle, feeling disappointed because I could tell the skating was good but I just couldn't wrap my mind around it

I agree about SLS. Most of the contestants are either Cariuma riders or skaters who don’t even put out street parts, so there’s really no connection you feel when watching these dudes. Also the atmosphere feels so dead if you compare it to a comp like Tampa.

In my opinion, the level of skateboarding has made it to where unless the obstacles or the courses is unique and fun, it’s really boring to watch because everybody can do every flat trick and every nose and every tail slide. Obviously not everyone is doing the exact same tricks because u have to score, but I think that we would get a lot more outside the box thinking if there was something fun to skate. Street league has made me not care about form or technique or the “perfect spot”. It’s more impressive to do something on some crusty ass street shit then a fucking perfectly waxed metal 90° angle.

I feel like the judging and the courses ruined SLS not the skaters. The judges are wildly inconsistent, and they are easily impressed by the same shit, for example SLS Apex was one of the first contests that Gustavo Ribiero was scored below a 9 for a crook nollie flip. We’ve seen that trick 20 trillion times why is he not getting docked points for it until now. Also the courses are almost always the same, and the tertiary obstacles don’t even matter since you can only get a good score on the biggest rail. The skaters have j figured out how to consistently get high scores due to lazy and inconsistent judging.

I feel like skateboarding has collectively realised that SLS is a parody of a bunch of sports from the meritocratic, neoliberal hellscape of mainstream sporting culture. The whole point of skateboarding for many of us is that it isn't about money, points, trophy girls, rankings blah blah. All that shit is Trumpian gilded business bro mogul boy podcast shit. Fuck all that. Ishod is right to bail.
