Andy Anderson embodies skateboarding at it's best: individuality, creativity and skill. Each generation has it's purists that try to gatekeep and call bulls#it on certain details but for lifelong skaters it's all about the love. Variety is the spice of life, that includes trick selection and unique spots. I really agree with and appreciate your take on the modifications. Dude was transparent and made the impossible possible. I think the unwritten "rules" are just core skaters trying to gatekeep the sport and I think it's cool to see Andy flaunt those rules, which helps break down those barriers making the sport more accessible. Especially the iphone footage, imagine how many cool tricks we haven't seen because people don't have access to a pro filmer. I think a lot of people are going to see that and be inspired to just go out and film clips with whatever they have. Plus it allows you to be a lot more spontaneous since you've always got your phone on you, so you don't have to plan out a specific time to go film something. Andy normalizing wearing a helmet was a big part of getting me back into skating, I work as an engineer so I can't afford to risk getting brain damage, but wearing a helmet gives me the confidence to skate knowing that even if I hit that one in a million freak accident I'm not going to smash my skull. I look at it the same way I look at wearing a life jacket: it doesn't matter how good you are at swimming, you can't swim if you're unconscious, sometimes shit happens that's outside of your control and it only takes one accident to change your life.
