Sluicing as fast as a Dredge!? Placer Gold Prospecting in NZ

We are over at one of our mining sites on New Zealand's West Coast, going in for some all out digging! The material here is not super rich, but it has gold all through it and you can just keep digging and sluicing the gravel at super speeds! Probably even faster then the speed a dredge would process material in a normal stream!
Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!

Yeah it is very unique, about every type of mineral you could think of mixed in there and all worn down and smoothed out like crazy (thus the smaller gold as I believe it’s been broken down over the years). Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed!

@@TheSluicers that’s great! NZ is probably the best place on Earth! I’ve spent some time there back in 2006-2007 and never wanted to leave 😎

@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Haha thanks bro, yeah absolutely love it here not many other places I would rather be, the only downsides are all the rain on the west coast and the strict mining regulations lol.

Liked, shared and commenting. If shoveling directly to sluice truly interests u. U can get a piece of perforated metal. Get a sheet as long as sluice and 1 inch wider than sluice. Mark 1/2 inch on both sides and fold it down 90 degrees. Now yer perforated metal sets 1/2 inch off the sluice allowing the cells under it to work properly. U shovel onto the metal and rocks wash off the metal and stalls fall through to cells. I learned this from Flour gold Wizards. Great vid🤙

Perforated metal is the metal with holes punched or drilled in it. U can get in several different hole sizes.

Thanks a heap for watching! Yeah that can really help, we have the A52 with a classifying screen attached we sometimes use (we actually went back to this spot with it another trip, just didn’t record it), we were just out for two quick scratch around this time though, so we just rushed in with that sluice as it’s a lot easier to set up and needs a bit less flow then with a screen. But definitely an idea for that sluice as well.

Go find some bedrock and look in the cracks once you get the cobble off. If the water isnt deep enough, get a metle coffee can and silacone a piece of clear plastic on the bottom to look in the water.

Thanks bro! Yeah that is a really good strategy we have found some of our best and biggest gold like that! Sadly this area is all clay bottom and solid bedrock is 100M deep so not available in these streams unfortunately.

Great job guys! I don't know if it is faster than dredging but i enjoy the ease of sluicing. Easy to pack around anywhere and gets the job done. Plus it is hard to spot gold in a dredge so using a sluice helps show the results faster. Keep up the great work and heavy pans🤙🍀⛏

Cheers thanks a lot bro! Yeah definitely not faster then a dredge, but the amount of gravel we got through in that stream in that time, is more then you would get through most dredges in most other streams with more large compact rocks if you get what I mean? Getting a dredge up there though would be insane! Thanks for watching

Thanks bro, hopefully you enjoyed this one too. This is not Nelson creek no, Nelson creek is a bit more rocky then here and has way way less heavy’s and blacksand comparatively (also chunkier gold there). Cheers

Cheers thanks bro! I reckon surely faster then a 2 or 3inch, probably about on par with how a 4in would go in another river (4in would still go faster in this creek) from our experience I reckon, but yeah not even close to a 5in or bigger .

Dropped the glas, put in your bag take it home, all rubbish, same who put it there remove it, we clean it up. Ground give you gold, least you can do it remoce glas spike so other dont cut or damage themself #cleannomatterwhat

It’s worn down glass it’s not sharp or dangerous or damaging to the environment, glass in this form essentially serves as a gem would in the river, it has 0 negative effects. If it was plastic or steel it would be a different story (like we obviously don’t just go throwing glass in rivers and entire bottles etc we would clean up, but a fragment of worn down essentially sea glass seems fine). Also under the rules of gold fossicking areas in New Zealand “all historic items are to be left where they were found” and it’s a 200 year old piece of glass so it technically falls under that catergory.
