I was a Biathlon skier at a competition in Switzerland when i saw and shot my first one. I had permission from my school district to go to the competition and was supposed to go to the olympics. I told the military police officer that let me shoot it in 1987 that i would love to buy one to carry. I was given one by my grandfather and loved it. He had to pull lots of strings to get one. He was a Senator and my dad was an ambassador. My dad was at an embassy in Africa (im not saying which country) and they gifted him a sphinx and my dad inquired about a sig. When he left his posting and went home for vacation he brought his sphinx and a shiny new sig. He and I took them to the range alot and they were hard to get extra magazines for. I joined the military and was issued an m11 which i carried but always loved my sig 210. I just bought a p210 custom carry (Engraved) and carry it now. Sig may have changed it a bit but they fulfilled my dream of carrying one. I love it and plan on buying a plain carry model. I will carry the custom at open carry barbecues and family occasions.

Finally was able to locate and purchase the P210 carry today. I own several of the swiss P210s and the american target and standard versions. Quick trip to the range and wow does this gun shoot. No problem hitting coke cans every time at 50 yards. No malfunctions with several bullet types and weights. Overall quality, ergonomics and shoot-ability are off the chart. Finish (exterior and interior is perfect with no flaws or machining marks. Black frame finish seems to be nicely done. I've had the standard P210 in my carry rotation for some time now and it is stock except I've changed the factory fixed sights out for Tritium sights. I could not tell any difference in the inherent accuracy between the standard and the carry versions. The P210 carry is pricey, but worth it if you prize extreme quality and accuracy. Lots of comments in this video and many others out there that lament how if this pistol was only made with a double stack magazine or if this pistol only had a pic rail or if this pistol only had a slide cut for optics, etc., they would buy it. If it had any of these things, it would not be a P210. Sig would give it another model designation. There are literally hundreds of other makes and models of other pistols with slide cuts, double stack magazines, and pic rails out there for those that want or need that. Sig makes a P365 if you want/need those things. The P210 line of pistols fill a niche handgun category which is not for everybody. While I don't EDC the P210 Carry, there are times I likely will same as with my other "Tuxedo" pistols.

Cool! I just fired my new 210 Carry today. $1300 a year ago??? I wish....but it is a great pistol And after only 45 rounds of my cheap lead bullet reloads I am in love! This really is gun gun for people that can appreciate great craftsmanship...but saying that I have gotten some pistols from SIG bought new that had multiple problems and had to go back to the factory.....custom shop guns none the less. To their credit they did fix them.

@leroyjenkins4811
@leroyjenkins4811 2 жыл бұрын
A full sized concealed carry gun with no light rail in this day and age is a mystery to me as well. I can understand a microcompact not having a rail but not a compact or full sized gun? Compact and full sized guns need to be able to pull double duty as home defense weapons. Every home defense weapon needs a weaponlight on it for target identification in the dark. My other question is why didn’t Sig make this thing double stack? They certainly have the technology to do so. I’m not really a fan of 1940 magazine capacity in 2022.
@scooter5940
@scooter5940 2 жыл бұрын
@@leroyjenkins4811 I'm just gonna take a guess and say the cost to make the engineering and (possibly) tooling changes required to the frame for a rail and a slightly wider mag would not be worth what is likely to be a small niche market for this gun. Also agree with your comments on a light for home defense, but using it for concealed carry is another issue. If you can't see your "target" out in public, pointing a gun to see it better may not always be wise.

They could really have a winner there if they added light rail and optic cut. All that plus the 210 accuracy is a great package
@theoverunderthinker

I guess..... I mean my home defense weapon is a rifle, so my carry guns, while some are fullsize, don't necessarily need a light rail. sig already makes the P320's and P226's and 1911's with rails, so if you want rails and red dots and all that, they already make something like that. this gun seems like they wanted to make a carry version of their target gun. a variation, not a whole new gun, so it makes sense to me that they didn't stray too far from the DNA of the original gun. it is also possible that the audience they were trying to meet just is a group that doesn't include your tastes. that's why sig makes a ton of different guns! so we can all have something that suits our tastes (or does closely). we all organize our guns needs differently. I don't think this was meant o be a "do it all" kind of gun, but a niche gun.
@scooter5940
@scooter5940 2 жыл бұрын
@@theoverunderthinker Well yeah, I think I said it’s a niche gun, and either because of cost (my guess) or by choice (or maybe both) they didn’t re-design the frame to put a rail on it. As you say, lots of other options if that is what you want. Also, never meant to imply I don’t like the gun - choice is good and that’s why there are so many different firearms on the market to meet different needs and wants. It’s not what I would buy, but has nothing to do with a lack of rail - just not the size, weight, capacity that suits my preferences.

I own the P210 standard and the P210 carry and they are both fine examples of American craftsmanship. I would give the P210 standard the nod as far as smoothness of the slide but both are excellent and the Carry will get better when fired as much as the standard. My examples are both great shooters and I would recommend either. These pistols aren’t for everyone but before you pass judgement shoot them and you’ll see and feel the quality.

On a single action auto loading pistol like that sig or a 70 series 1911, that doesn’t have a drop safe block, will it fire if dropped while cocked and locked. Or does it only fire when dropped cocked with the safety in off position.
@morgan3688
@morgan3688 2 жыл бұрын
When the drop occurs in certain orientations, regardless of saftey position. If you drop it witu the barrel pointing down, the movement of the body stops, but the firing pin has intertia that carries through. This can cause enough of an impact to the primer to cause an accidental discharge.

A Series 70 1911 still has the grip safety. Any rate if the thumb safety is engaged it shouldn't fire. Also the firing pin is spring loaded so the pin doesn't tap the primer from inertia when dropped. It was designed for troops so its got safety built into it.

That seems like a law of nature or mechanics. The vintage High Standard target .22 autos are works of craftsmanship inside and out and on the target. The later ones ..... not close. IIRC the later ones were stainless and that is a royal PITA to work with. So that likely accounted for much of the difference.

When the constitution was written, and long afterwards there was not any gun licenses anywhere in United States. There is no mention of people being confined to the State they live in order to carry a firearm, and everyone at that time brought their firearm everywhere they wanted to go including across state lines. Because the Supreme Court text and history is to be used, any legal citizen of the United States should be allowed to carry their firearm anywhere in the United States without a license or permit. Constitutional carry should be the law of the land.

SIG makes some beautiful stuff AND innovates, and I respect that. I first carried a P220 with the european mag release in the 70's. The P220 was an improved version of the P210, based on 70's german/swiss technology, instead of 40's technology. $1500 for an 8+1 single action "carry" pistol? My carry pistol is a frankenstein design that costs way too much, $2600 with a red dot optic and is a 0% Glock, Glock G19. I understand spending too much money on a carry pistol. The P210 carry model is too expensive, too pretty, and a 1/2 century too obsolete for carry purposes. It was obsolete in the 80's. Our dealers on allocation have the P210 target and carry models for those that really like the idea of a precise 1940's design. I obsoleted my P220 in the late 80's for a P228 and a G19. I obsoleted those pistols over a decade ago. So much technology has changed in the last decade. Literally, the designs from a decade ago or even 5 years ago are on their way out. The P210 is beautiful history but obsolete for carry, as of the 1980's. It is 3+ generations obsolete. Even the P220 has a firing pin block, so it can use American "soft" primer ammo and be carried with one in the chamber. Put the P220 on an MTS machine and do a Jerk test. Bang! It is another P320 disaster, safety or no safety. At least the P320 for the military had a redundant manual safety to block the trigger.

Did Sig never fully resolve the drop test issue with the P220? Is there a titanium firing pin option or other solution?
@johnphillips222
@johnphillips222 2 жыл бұрын
@ Colonel K Good question. It is hard to find updates that are accurate. The P220 (old school 70's design) has a firing pin block. It is 100% safe (unless there is terrible maintenance) when dropped in the Double Action mode, the way that it is supposed to be carried. In Single Action mode it is possible to drop, usually throw, the P220 and have it fire. The classic P-series pistols (226, 228, 229, etc.) have that same limitation. There is no "dingus" in the trigger shoe. Most people heard of the recent P320 drop safe issues but did not know what you know about the P220. The P320 also has no "dingus". The lightened trigger shoe 99% helps make the P320 drop safe. The P320 has a firing pin block. It can still fire if thrown (more than dropped) in exactly the wrong, bad luck way. I doubt that can happen in real life. If something gets caught in the trigger when dropped, drawn from the holster, or when reholstered, the P320 will fire. That is how the less than intelligent cops have shot themselves AFTER the voluntary upgrade (recall) or new design was released. The corrupt attorneys and corrupt union reps have filed false lawsuits against SIG to cover up the fact that the cops pulled the triggers. The military has a manual safety on the P320. The P320'is 100% drop safe with the safety in the ON position, old or new design. There is a firing pin block. Most ignorant cops and ignorant attorneys have no idea that the engineers can reconstruct firearms accidents. We can even see inside the pistols. Thatbis why the corrupt cops destroy evidence before filing lawsuits against the manufacturere. Their attorneys and union repa found out the hard way. The engineers can see inside the guns. We can also read the "black box" inside the cop cars ...and the cops cannot destroy that evidence without a fire or a hammer.
@johnphillips222
@johnphillips222 2 жыл бұрын
Regarding the titanium firing pin solution, that makes things better on a firearm that does NOT have a firing pin block. The P220 (and P320) have firing pin blocks, so the titanium firing pin is not needed. The Ruger LCP versions upgraded to a titanium firing pin, a stronger firimg pin return spring, then a much stronger hammer spring ...and even a DA-like heavy amount of creep in their SA trigger mechanism to more cock the hammer ...to put more-more energy into the hammer. ...And the LCP still cannot shoot european 380 ammo reliably due to the hard euro primers. Remember, in europe the ammo is designed to be "safe" in old and crappy pistols that don't have firing pin blocks. The AR did not go to a titanium firing pin, but the original firing pin went on a diet and was lightened in the 1960's??? Chris is smart and discussed the firing pin indents in primers. SAS is pretty cool with smart people like Chris and Heather and a smart and respectful audience. You asked smart questions.

@@johnphillips222 I'm aware of the European primer issue. I remember when I acquired my first Cz75 in the early 1980s I was told, contrary to popular belief, the DA trigger pull was not for carrying the pistol in condition 2 (hammer down with a round in the chamber), but was intended to provide a second and third strike capability in case a hard primer did not detonate. This makes more sense to me than carefully lowering the hammer on a live round. Eventually someone is going to have an accidental discharge.

@ Colonel K You are a smart and well informed man. That is the nice thing about the SAS audience. I have a CZ-75B, so it is a 90's version of the pistol. I keep it around as a reference, just in case a student or Police Officer asks about them. I love the Phillips screws for the grip panels. When you said that the CZ-75 has a DA restrike feature, I had to rethink. Does it? I forgot. I am sure that you are right. Even I have to stop and think. Nobody knows it all about guns. People like you help out so much.

If this was double stack 9mm I would buy one. Now days I don’t want a single stack low capacity carry Gun.

@Carmicha3l Honestly, as accurate as it appears to be, i'd say that makes up for the 8+1 capacity. I could see this being a huge step back for a soldier on a battlefield with ball ammo. But a civilian with excellent quality hollow points, this would be no different than having a really good revolver. Plus one can always do as with a 1911.....buy and carry more mags. Only drawback to that is how much Sig charges for their magazines.

If someone is not a good marksman then they really should have double stack. I was and still am very confident with 6 in a cylinder and 50 yard shots. It took many thousands of rounds to get to that point.

I can appreciate that perspective. That’s how I used to think growing up with a 1911 and feeling just fine. Maybe it’s my paranoia but seeing so many videos of multiple attackers has me rethinking. More attackers needs more ammo. If I’m going to carry a full size pistol I want the advantage of more ammo. That said, 90% of the time I’m carrying a low capacity Glock 43. More reasoning for your justification. Thank you for the comment sir.

I had a Danish model 49 version 20 years ago. Bought it for $1000. Was a great pistol. Traded it for a Glock 19 and a Norinco AK under folder. You are providing great info as usual but the lighting in this video is terrible!
