I have one regret with Aqara and it’s that I didn’t start using them sooner in my process of creating a smart home. I started using them a few months ago and I’ve yet to have any issues with any of their items. What’s even better is that the family is starting to enjoy how much smart homes make life easier. Automations are coming together and the wife just asked if we could add more 😎 Say no more!

Started my Smart Home journey about 2 weeks ago, Aqara being the first products I purchased (along with HomePod mini). Works great so far! Will definitely purchase more from Aqara.

This is awesome. I agree, their hubs really help reimagine the purpose of a hub into the hub portion being secondary. I am trying to decide how to fit my new house with a smart system and definitely planning on Aqara

Hey Brad, does this hub work with the new E1 curtain driver from Aqara? Alternatively, I have a new Amazon Echo which is supposed to be a Zigbee hub too, could that be used for the curtain driver? I'm very confused!

Nice review I use Aqara through out my home. Started wit the M1 and I now have a M2 got it on sale for $49 US on Amazon.

This is a great way to get started with Aqara, but it’s also great if you need a Zigby and/or Wi-Fi repeater in a far away segment of your home. Aqara has been super reliable and inexpensive for me and I recommend it to anyone. With this little hub, it’s that much easier to get started. The price of this hub, plus just one of their sensors is now cheaper than tha alternatives out there- add a second sensor in your savings are huge and just as reliable as those alternatives.

My sensors turn unavailable:( I use a e1 hub in home assistant Also upstairs the signal seems to be blocked. How can I extend it? Can i just put my hue hun there to extend it or how can I manage to get the signal there?

Hi thank you so much for this video !! As I have been using Echo show 8(1st gen), and I wish to add Zigbee, should I go for a Zigbee gateway hub like aqara e1 or sonoff Zigbee hub ? Or should go for Echo (4th) as it has inbuilt Zigbee ? Please help

Hi Jay, thanks so much for watching! I actually don't know anything about the Echo environment so sadly I can't be much help to you. The E1 is a great Zigbee Aqara hub, but my only use is within HomeKit.

Hi Jaume, great question! For smart lights with a switch I only use Philips Hue and add a Lutron Aurora (I have videos on this if you need more info). If it's accent lighting without a switch then I often go with Nanoleaf, then I can add my own "switch" like a flic button or an Aqara Mini Switch, for example. Most of my lights though, I have connected to smart switches like the Aqara one or Lutron Caseta.

I have purchased Aqara M1S hub and using with MI home app. So many features very interesting. I want to know how many motion sensors, temperatures and humidity sensors, remote switches we can use in one hub?. And Also I have purchased Sonoff smart home devices and installed eWelink app to my same android mobile. Will it conflict while using. Thanks for sharing.

The M1S is a great hub!! Up to 128 devices with that hub as well, though like the E1, it requires some repeaters like the Aqara smart plug or wall switch to reach the 128. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with Sonoff or eWelink, so perhaps someone from the community can help you out.

I have an m1s but the signal is poor in some rooms. Would it Work as a zigbee extender? Keep up the great work!!!!

Not exactly as an extender, but you could add the new hub in the area where your accessories have trouble connecting to the M1S, and then pair those accessories with the new Hub. You will have to delete and re-add those devices, but there is no other impact.

Hi Dan - in that case, you may need an additional hub (or hubs).... this is directly from the Aqara website: "The hub zigbee signal coverage is around 7-10 meters with a hub as the center. However, due to the restriction of the use environment in the home, there will be signal blocking. If the area of the home is large, you can consider purchasing multiple hubs."

It can be used on its own. It just doesn’t have the “bells and whistles” as with some of Aqara’s other hubs.

Amazon reviews claim the aqara smart switches produce humming sounds. Anyone else have this experience? What brand of bulbs work best with their switches?

I have mine attached to Nanoleaf bulbs and no hum.... Video on that soon. I've also tried with GE bulbs and they were ok. Sometimes smart switches can be picky with different brands of lights though, so could be valid. Even Lutron has issues with many bulbs.

Hello. I have a M1S hub, but the hub doesn't reach a couple rooms. Can I set one of this to work as a "repeater"?

Not really as a “repeater” but you could add a hub and position closer to the hard to reach accessories to connect them directly to the new hub. Would work essentially the same as a repeater.

@@RRafa90 Totally. Though child devices are paired separately, automations across hubs is fine. I.e. Motion sensor paired to M1S can turn on light switch connected to E1 Hub.....

*I got whole Aqara ecosystem and it sucks - app is so CONFUSING - creating alarm automation is SO COMPLICATED there are...... TUTORIALS for it online!!! And that is just basic feature. Then there is just worse - very slow notifications on smartphone and much more.*

Hi Bart - Although you haven't had a great experience with Aqara, I appreciate you sharing your feedback! It can take some time to get used to the Aqara app. I've played around with the alarm feature, but I don't use it regularly. Overall though, the more I've used Aqara the more impressed I have been. Though, I can appreciate that it's not the same experience for everyone.

Not worth it to have another Homekit required Zigbee hub. Matter will come soon and all these Zig-bee hubs will be replaced by a single Amazon Echo or Eero router.
