Love the videos and love the Aqara products! Please tell them to make configurable motion sensor timeout. I would buy motion sensors by the dozen if they had configurable timeout instead of 90 seconds! Thanks!

Another great video. I am in New Zealand and have several G2 cameras and also the G3. The G3 works with HomeKit but only as a camera. I have the aqara app but when I try to add it to the app it always fails. Is that because I have the Chinese version of the G3. In the video you were able to demonstrate the features - did you have an advance global version or were you connected to the Chinese hub. If so how do you connect to that Hub and will it impact on child devices etc which appear in HomeKit currently?

Great video. I'm about to purchase but wanted to know if the hub has good coverage/range. We have an old house with thick walls. I assumed as it is zigbee that it would need the hub to reach all of the devices/sensors I add to my set up? Or does it work on my wifi network? I currently have good wifi in all rooms as I have Sky Q mesh extender throughout.

This is a really interesting and useful video for me. Although it was sponsored by Aqara, I have been following your channel long enough to know that this is an honest review. When you say you are a fan of Aqara products it means that they are good. Full stop. I have the Aqara G2H Camera and it works very well. But I don’t use it as a hub: I don’t have any other Aqara child devices as of yet, but that will change in the future. Your idea of pairing it with the E1 is really interesting. I will most definitely install a security system this way. I am also very interested in a comprehensive G3 review. That one looks like a real winner!

Longtime fan of your posts and Aqara products. I'm having to replace a 1st Gen Aqara Hub with a M1S Hub because of needing Zigbee 3.0 for the new U100 smart lock. Do you have any instructions (advice) on how to upgrade to a newer hub? I can't seem to find any information on the easiest procedure within the Aqara App. Concerned about losing accessory automations and HomeKit connections.

Shane: any idea how to get an alert/notification if an Aqara sensor goes offline (battery, bad signal, etc)? I had one in my freezer go offline but I only knew because I checked the app manually. I don’t see any obvious setting or automation that would do this.

Hi Shane, I have a question regarding the hub M1S, do you face issues with it? I face the issue where changing the status in the HomeKit app to away the status in the Aqara app stays in off state. When the trigger (outlet in my case) is triggered it does not activate the alarm when in away mode. Should you any ideas would be much appreciated!

Question: Shane I was adding a second Aquara G3 to my setup in the Aqara App. When I scanned the QR code the setup shunted me over to the Home App for installation. However, I don't have it in my Aqara App. Can I move a copy somehow over to Aqara? If not, how would suggest I fix this? Thanks.

I love how Aqara packages silicone ears with the g3 to make something staring at you all day less creepy…like a cat who watches you the whole time lol Edit: also if Aqara could update the m1s hub (if they ever do) adding a switch on the back to move the plug up or down so you have the space to plug in something else into a 2 outlet plug. Like connection pins on both sides of the slider so either way it powers the hub.

I love to see more things having HomeKit support. Do you know of any smart outside lights that have HomeKit support? I love the Novostella floe lights, but no home support there. I could add a smart outdoor plug or play around with homebridge but that just sounds like a lot of work and overkill.

Phillips Hue really has the market on this. They have a number of outdoor lights that can work with homekit. Unfortunately, there aren't many other options

I have the Aqara m1s hub. The power went off and now the hub won’t factory reset. Now it just stays on a yellow solid light. I like it, just wish I could get it to reset.

Hi Shane, thanks for the great video! I have been considering getting the M2 but the IR function is not exposed to HomeKit. Are there any hubs out there that expose the IR function of the hub to HomeKit without the need for homebridge? I am aware that these hubs support Siri Shortcuts so that can be used but wanted to check if there was any out there that directly integrate the IR function with HomeKit. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for watching! No, unfortunately there currently are not any IR blasters that support homekit natively, without the need for homebridge. I don't think it's a supported category within homekit.

I have two M1S hubs (Dining Room and Office) and a M2 Hub in my shop storage room (as the WiFi is very weak out there and I have it hardwired to an ethernet cable). I also have five G2H camera hubs point at my four exterior doors and one in my garage to monitor all of my exterior entrances. I use the two M1S and the M2 hubs as part of my DIY alarm system. I had a M1 hub in my Dining Room and recently upgraded it to the M1S hub. I am waiting for the G3 camera hubs to come out in the US. I will get a couple of these cameras to record goings on in the house when we are gone.

@@ShaneCreates I have 44 child devices including (8) Contact sensors, (12) Temperature/Humidity sensors, (13) Water Leak Sensors, (6) Motion Sensors, (3) Smart Plugs, and (2) Wireless Mini Switches. I will be adding at least two more Smart Plugs (I use them exclusively for conditional automations) and possibly adding Vibration sensors to all of my windows (24 in total). As you can see, I am a big fan of Aqara products. My other favorite product in Lutron Caseta. I currently have 38 devices controlling all of my light fixtures and a couple of lamps.

Would love to see you compare the Aqara Mini Switch with the Wireless Wall Switch. I’m renting, and thus don’t want to replace all my switches with wired switches. So which switch is better for placing over the top of my Neanderthal Switches?

I am subscribed to this channel and thank for your time. Aqara hub MS1 is getting bricked and goes offline often. Unable to reset and when googled for solution , it says interference of WiFi 5g but I Donot have any control to change the WiFi connection on the settings. That’s the main negative outcome of this hub. Amazon take it back within a month time after that aqara support is a lame duck

Cameras can notify you when they go offline in HomeKit, but I think they are the only accessory type that can do that for some reason. So the camera hubs could notify you in HomeKit.

I've combed through these comments and couldn't find the answer to this: would an Aqara motion sensor and hub be able to control automations to a Lutron smart switch? As long as it is all connected to homekit, can they all be controlled with scenes even though they're different brands?

The Aqara G2H camera hubs has a "Lens Correction" feature that gets rid of the "Fish Eye" affect of the camera lens. Can you tell me if the G3 also has this feature and how well it works?

I don't believe the G3 has a lens correction option. Probably because the lens on the G3 isn't as wide, therefore less distortion (110º lens vs. 140º on the G2H). Since it can pan/tilt, it doesn't really need that extra wide angle lens like the G2H.

My friend i have the g2h with many child devices on a China server. I try to connect Alexa (who is in American server) and it doesn't find it. it said that have to be in American server? If i change the Chinese server to American all these aqara staff will they work? Thank you

These are the questions that needed to be asked, I’ve been looking into getting into the aqara system and the m1s hub seams to be the best for my needs, I’m just curious about things like spacing plugged into an outlet which isn’t always covered. A lot of these smart plugs over hang and it makes it difficult to get it all going

So from my understanding the hard plugged devices act as a repeater. So I have a Lutron light system but two switches. Specifically I mad Aqara to repeat the zigbee system.

Hi Shane, I’m using M1S hub and paired some Xiaomi sensors over zigbee, everything is compatible with HomeKit. Question is can I pair some other sensors with zigbee that are not described as HomeKit devices (even with same brand gateway). In EU mart LIDL now arrived many zigbee devices on their own brand SilverCrest in pretty cool prices and I wonder can I buy some temp or motion sensor.

No I don't think that would work. Only Aqara accessories work typically with the Aqara hubs, with the exception of some of the Xiaomi sensors.

Hi Shane! Great channel! I live in Sweden and been following you for a while! I have a question. I have both the Aqara M1S and the M2. But I’ve only exposed the M1S to HomeKit. When I exposed both I saw two security details/icons. Do you have all your Aqara hubs exposed to HomeKit?

Thanks! Yes, I have them exposed to homekit. Each hub will expose it's attributes to HomeKit when connected. As in your case, you'll end up with two security systems in HomeKit.

Hi Shane, when you say that the G2H hub can sound sound an alarm if a security system is triggered, does that need to be a security system from aqara? Does it require an aqara account to be set up?

Yes, that is correct. The siren can only be triggered by Aqara devices, configured in the Aqara app.

Hi Shane, Have you ever encountered any issues binding the ms1 hub to the Aqara App? I can add it successfully to HomeKit but then it won't bind to the aqara app.

Me too. I just purchased a M1S Gen 2 and an E1. Both fail (Read/write operation failed. 74) when trying to bind to the Aqara app. So frustrating. Internet search fruitless. Aqara support is email only and no reply yet. I need help.

Hey Shane i got 2 Aqara Hubs 1 camera gh2 and the ms1 . The ms1 i can connect to homekit but never figured out how to make it work or bind to aqara app. Even when i set it to china🤷🏻‍♂️. So the camera is the only aqara hub working

I believe it it's already connected to HomeKit, it should pop up somehow in the Aqara app asking if you want to bind it to the Aqara app. If not, you should be able to go to Profile > HomeKit in the Aqara tab and be able to bind your hubs with homekit.

@@michstowschannel You can try contacting Aqara support and see if they can help you. I had issues adding back existing Temperature sensors and it turned out I needed to just change the batteries. I know the camera hub doesn't use batteries, but there may be a solution that they can recommend. Or if they determine it is a bad unit, they may replace it under warranty.

I’m pretty sure they won’t work. And even if they do show up, HomeKit doesn’t seem to allow 3rd party devices to be exposed, for example, if you pair a 3rd party smart bulb to Philips Hue, HomeKit doesn’t know anything about it.

1 second ago I don’t have the best internet where I live. Would this set up slow down my internet? Or if I buy all Aqara door/window sensors and just use the Aqara app and hub, would that be better than using HomeKit or do I need HomeKit for these to work? I just want to set up a local home security network but not hooked up to the cloud for privacy reasons. I’m not a tech savvy person so I need an easy system, haha. Any suggestions?

One hub shouldn't slow down your internet. And the child accessories connect via zigbee to the hub, so that shouldn't either. If you don't want cloud communication, homekit is probably the way to go. You can get Aqara stuff to work in homekit easily, and even use "HomeKit Only" mode if you want to eliminate any possibility of cloud communication via Aqara.

Do all these hubs work with xiaomi branded sensors or gadgets? Since the M2 hub has also a bluetooth capability, can it connect to the xiaomi quingping bluetooth alarm clock which is also a temperature and humidity sensor?

I went looking for an Aqara hub after watching this video, but apparently their wall switches are all 1-way only? My house has a bunch of 3-way and even 4-way switches. One of them is currently on the Caseta + Pico setup, which has been working very well. I’ve been hesitant to add more Casetas because they’re pricey as heck. How do I deal with 3-way switches with Aqara?

I believe there is a way to configure this. In the switches' settings, there is an option to "change to wireless switch." It you enable that, and then create an automation to turn it on/off when the other switch is toggled, I believe you'll have your 3 way switch. I haven't tested that since my Aqara switches are all single pole, but I think that would work.

With the security system armed, if a door is opened (using a sensor) can the alarm be repeated on HomePods?

No not natively. You could technically creat an automation to play some sort of alarm sound (from Apple Music) when the security system is triggered.

The thing that appeals to me most about the E1 Hub is that it’s small, powered via a USB, and cheap. So I can plug it into my Router’s USB and not have to worry about having yet another power cable to a hub. 😍 And if I find I need the WiFi extender, I can use it for that. 🤷🏻‍♀️👍 The IR hub kinda appeals, but it’s $95 AUD, Vs $27 for the E1. 🤑

The easiest thing if you already have a floodlight controlled by a wall switch, is to just replace the wall switch with a smart switch. Then you can control it via HomeKit. That's what I've done. I haven't used any dedicated HomeKit floodlights. I know Phillips Hue makes a number of outdoor light fixtures and there are one or two camera floodlights available, but I haven't used them.

@@ShaneCreates that’s why I can’t see any brightness sensor on home app! :( I have M1s and M2, in Europe server and ac p3 on mainland China server! My M1s always losses connection and blinks blue after many many attempts!! Do you happen to know if I have to change something in my router for better connection with the hub??

@@grigorischaralampopoulos4999 When it is blinking Blue, that means it has lost the WiFi connection and is trying to reconnect. Mine usually gets right back online after a minute or so. If yours doesn't, then you need to look at getting a better WiFi system, like a mesh network or adding additional AP's to your existing system. You can use the luminance sensor in either the Aqara app or the Eve app (which is free) to do automations. They will then show up in HomeKit, but if you need to make any changes to the light levels, you will have to do that in either the Aqara or Eve app.

@@Polkster13 thank you for the reply!! The M1s is next to the router!! Maybe I have to disable the 5ghz network completely. Or some say you have to disable band steering! Mine in most cases blinks for one minute and then stops!! But it is very annoying and that minute all the security system is out of reach offline! Maybe I have to put a static ip in the M1s connection with the router I don’t know! How have you solved this blinking blue? Some days it can happen 7 times!! I thought is was a conflict because I use the ac p3 in mainland China server and the m2 and M1s in the Europe server so there is some conflict there because of the main security system wich controls both the hubs in different region!! . I am usually connected in the Aqara app in the Europe server! Do you also happen to know if I can re add the m2 hub in the apple home app beacause I erased it to see if this was the problem??

The easiest way is to use an Aqara smart plug. They act as zigbee repeaters. Also the wall switch with Neutral can also act as a zigbee repeater (since both have constant power).

While using HKSV, are these features working ? - AI functions - activity zones - 2K stream via the app - SD card/RTSP storage On the Eufy all these features are disabled while HomeKit is enabled … So I use RTSP with Synology Surveillance Station, linked with Home Assistant, that exposed the camera back to HomeKit 😅

If you need to extend the range of your current zigbee network, using another hub already, I'd probably just get an Aqara smart plug. They act as zigbee repeaters. I don't think the hubs do this.

@@cgheeraert hey yes its fine. Ive had to remove it from HomeKit and then the Aqara app reset it and then re added it. Adding it back to HomeKit is a ball ache as everything needs setting back up. Hopefully it will work now 🙏🏼

The Aqara button as a doorbell? I don't use it for that daily anymore, since getting a doorbell camera. But it worked last time I tried it when setup via automation in the Aqara app.

Maybe in a round-about way. You'd probably have to use conditional automations to play a siren sound on the homepods. Could probably be done but wouldn't be ideal (for a few reasons) in my opinion.

I really liked all the features of the M1S...then I plugged it in (4:22) and it blocks the other outlet. Not impressed. I'm also not a huge fan of the actual tone of the light. It has a certain harsh look to it that isn't pleasing.

G3? Just say no! (I am all-in on the Aqara brand, running my entire home on it but THIS PRODUCT sadly is going into the trash). I had this amazing device for 6 months and after 3 months, the "Human Tracking" feature just died with no explanation and support was worthless at helping figure it out! Best part of this device and the only feature to die in a very short period of time.

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, kzfaq.infoUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

Hey Shane. Great video as always. But, I ask again, please don’t have “music” behind your voice. It is hugely anxiety producing and I can’t watch your videos for more than a minute or two at a time. It’s an accessibility thing. Makes for huge anxiety trying to listen to you as the repetitive “music” is going over and over int the background. Thanks for considering this request.
