The E.ON smart in-home display helps you understand your energy use. In this video, we explain its key features, including finding out how much energy you use and how to set a budget. We also give you some handy hints and tips to get the most out of your smart in-home display.

Our SMETS 2 has been in a month and so far no problems. We lost the gas display once, but I switch it off and then back on again, and it went back to the usual display. It is actually very helpful in identifying power usage of various items in the house. We have tended to be more cautious in using the electric heater instead of putting on the gas centra heating, but fund that we spent less if we left the central heating on low all day instead of heating each room with an electric appliance. So far we are saving about £10 a month .... not bad for starters. fingers crossed the meter continues to work well.

How on earth can this be described as "Smart" when you cannot turn it off to save power and energy?! We called the helpline number after 30 minutes actually spoke with a live person and also spoke with someone on the Facebook help page and were told to press and hold the OK button but all that does is display either "cancel" or "restart" options. The guide booklet also says to Power Off press OK - this is incorrect information. Apparently the only way to turn it off when we go to bed is to remove the battery! Other issues - when scrolling through settings to "System Menu" it asks for a 4 digit number, we have not been given one? During the morning the electric usage is showing in the red even when nothing is turned on and the green icon for our solar panels is lit up? Not impressed!!!

The actual displayed data on the IHD is very interesting. It is just a shame they provide low quality hardware and an inadequate wifi strength.

SmartView2 plugged in to charger permanently but fails to light up. Find it impossible to contact EON. Is this whole thing a confidence trick to enable them to sack the meter reader?

like many below I cannot see my gas usage not bothered with E.ON, as I only had the smart meter installed as they had not charged me fully in the past putting me in arrears !

My new smartview2 lasted a day, then lost connection and stopped working great. Not so smart eon

Same thing happened to me. Trying to get help was dreadful - unhelpful staff who didn't listen and kept trying to get me to press the on button over and over again, despite me telling them that I had tried it multiple times but the screen stayed black. Isn't one definition of madness repeatedly doing the same thing in the hope of a different outcome?

Just had this meter fitted, under the Radio info the smart meter is registered under the "extended PAN ID and when searching for the meter it shows the correct GPF ID but it's stick on "searching for meters" and has never worked, will need to call eon tomorrow.

Do not think the SMETS2 unplugs from the power cord although the video seems to show the IHD in someone’s hand without a cable

It does but doesn't hold a charge for 24 hours. EON know this is a problem but say they don't have an alternative. I now have anotyher item of electronic junk in my house. Or would have if I hadn't posted it back to them.

MY IHD has nor worked properly since installation about a year ago. I have contacted Eon a number of times but generally get fobbed off. Complete waste of time and money.

I recently got a new SMETS2 + Smart View 3 fitted, wasn't home till a few days after fitting, however its not showing any Gas data, only Electricity, nothing in the app either?

May be that your gas meter is too far away from the electric/comms hub.

We were not home for about 4days and everything was turned off but came home to find that it has incurred over £10 on electricity, how is that possible

meter is logging KW/h usage no problem but I cannot change the monetary value on it to accurately say what I am spending , Ideas?

My display has gone faulty. It froze a couple of days ago and wouldn't switch off. Had to take out the battery to get it going. Trouble is now it doesn't display the electric. The electricity viewing option isn't even there in the menus. Eon have said they will give me another for 30 pounds as it not in warrenty. They can shove it. Crappy gadget. Anyone else had similar?

Same problem as me. I was told by a "help line" person that to turn it off you have to remove the battery cover and take out the battery !

be for the old prepayment smart meter was a pain in the a..........s now we have had a new meter put in with a smart view ihd so far so good (((((((( any one with a gas meter a long way from the front of your house .. this is the answer ok so far well done eon next 🥰

Could you tell me why it is so hard to get a replacement IHD under guarantee. I have called five times and have so far been fobbed off. Oh unless I pay £60. Awful service. Will,be calling again Monday. Monday this time.

Reading through some of these comments it is OBVIOUS that they haven't updated the connectivity of the read out unit to the meters! Why not? Here I am - 29th April 2022 - and finding the same issue with signal strength as others from 2 years ago. I get minimum signal strength when 4ft/1.2mt away from the electric meter and communicator - with an 8" thick wall between them. Have had to position it about 3ft/90cm from the communication box *in the same room* (under the stairs!). NOT VERY IMPRESSED WITH THAT

They broke it with a recent unwanted software update: it would try to show Gas data in priority over Electricity data, even though I'm only an Electricity customer and thus saw only a blank figure for Gas! How on Earth that got through QA is beyond a joke Eon support were useless 💩, directed me to look on the forums like I wasn't a paying customer! Like others the range is a serious limitation too

Had one of these fitted yesterday lasted about 4 hours before the gas part of the display went tits up,its going in the bin the pile of shit.

Same here - just had the smart meters installed today. It seems, reading various comments, the only way to switch the blimmin' thing off is to remove the battery.

@@thornxxx5771 thank you for your advice. I don’t use it full stop. Have lots of problems with meters. The matter has gone to OFGEM but they don’t seem to be in a hurry. Secondly, I don’t see how will device save me any energy. I am careful how use it 🙏🏻have a nice X-mas

My smart meter display is nothing like this one. The video gives no information about false or incorrect displays and is generally of no use at all.

And mine, its a Smart View 3... telephoned EDF for help... told to look at KZfaq...my model does not feature on KZfaq.... like most things the UK touches it either does not work, or its a total waste of time & money

stopped updating after 3 weeks, time/clock is stuck at 18:30 and power off/reset button does not work. i guess i have to try leaving it unplugged for it to turn off pffft

Hello sir. You have to remove the battery for 20 sec and then put it back on. Press the okay key for 10 sec and then leave it for 5 minutes and it will start working.

@@deepentamang7986 i leave it turned off and uncharged, it is more useful that way as it couldn't connect to the meter anyway, it just didn't work.

The connection on the smartview2 for the power supply lead is very flimsy, it looks like unless you are extremely careful when inserting or removing the lead the connector will be easily damaged rendering the Smartview2 useless. Why can't all the power companies just provide an app to put on your phone to access the meters wifi signal and display it on your mobile phone, tv or computer. They would save the cost of providing all the IHDs.

Incase you don't have a mobile phone or if your phone breaks. The screens allow all to have access to the smart meter functionality. Also eon don't need to make an android and an iOS app and find that an os update kills it.

I had a new gas and electric meter installed for the smart meter, the electricity works but the gas hasn't worked since it was installed, I have lots of credit and emergency available but the gas won't come on... thanks eon

Installed three weeks ago. In House display (IHD) appeared to work, but found to be not charging. Reported fault to Eon, but no reply (yet). Found a charger from another device which got IHD working. Then discovered that IHD could crash easily if buttons pressed in rapid succession. IHD recovers after being left alone for some time - until now! I'm waiting for battery to run down in the hope the IHD will die, then I can charge and resuscitate it. It needs a reset capability (eg by pressing a combination of buttons, like Ctrl-Alt-Del on a keyboard). As an ex-power engineer I'm ashamed to see such a poor quality device being rolled out.

Have had on of these fitted this afternoon - 29th April 2022 - and had problems with it not charging *although charge signal indicated*. Unplugged and then plugged in again *making sure of a good connection* and the battery started to charge up. Would seem you need to make certain the connector is indeed properly pushed in fully to get it to charge.

Only had it for a day. The smartview2 IHD (IN HOME DEVICE) has a very tenuous wifi connection to the meters. The meters are fitted in plastic boxes on the integral garage outside wall. If the IHD is outside immediately next to the meters it shows a good connection but in the room directly above the meters it just manages the barest minimum signal strength with frequent dropouts. Anywhere else in the house is out of range. Not a very good promotion of the so called latest technology.

We are both very much past pension age and both use glasses . This display is too small to read . Also the men who fitted it would not explain anything to us just twice said instructions are in the box . Well thanks very much NOT !!!!

This thing is pants. It makes a horrible buzzing noise when it's plugged in It can only hold a charge for half a day so it needs to remain plugged in. You can tell it's cheap.

This is supposed to save you money but you have to have the unit more or less constantly plugged into a mains as the battery soon drains, also has a really rubbish range, our gas and electric are at the front of the house,our living room is virtually next to it and the signal keeps going off the unit. This is supposed to be 'Smart'???

Useless bloody thing, never worked right since it was installed, this unit sits about 60cm from the electric meter and it struggles to find a signal, now it's frozen on the daily tariff charges, about as much use as a second hand tampax.

We got this put in . The old key top up was much better price wise. We have a 2 bed flat running electric. We got this shit fitted and all ready it say around £1.50 to £2.00 more a day. And were light users. On the key system we was using on average £2.50 per day. Now its. £3.50 to £4.50 ] per day all they say is your on the same rate and tariff etc. Load of shit. . !!!!! Eon 😢

If anyone is interested, it costs about £3 per year to run one of these, which you can save in a week or even a day if you pay attention and curb your energy usage.

Absolute rubbish. You have to be right on top of the smart meter for smart view to connect.
