Just bought one of these to handle garden watering in the AM hours... If it works for the lawn - watering at 2 or 3 AM will work for the garden with less water needed. Winning.

Thanks Simon! I actually really like the Eve Aqua - at least the second generation with Thread. The first generation did have some leaking issues after a couple of years.

Hey Chris, I bought one of these last spring and love it. The app is kinda junky, but the features work. Used this to water my garden all summer.

Hey Daniel! Yeah - The app hasn’t improved that much in the last couple of years, but the hardware has been pretty solid. I’m actually in the process of connecting this to a drip hose for watering plants around backyard. Really hoping it turns out!

You have the best HomeKit/smart home product review channel on KZfaq! I watch a lot of other channels but I feel like most of them review the same, basic and mainstream HomeKit products that people like me, who are into building a smart home already know about (Hue Light Strip & The Nanoleaf Aurora etc). I’m constantly checking for new HomeKit products and I find a lot of them through you. Thank you! I hope 2018 is great for your channel and you continue to grow and get the recognition you deserve! Keep it up Chris!

Wow! Really appreciate the kind words. I’d like to think I bring a slightly different perspective on that I actually use and install everything I’ve reviewed in my own smarthome. Always trying to seek out new products to deal with the problems I want to solve. Thanks for your support!

Chris Young - Of course! I’m sharing your videos as often as possible with my friends who are getting into this world, so keep doing what you’re doing! I think I can speak for all of your viewers when I say we appreciate your honest reviews and willingness to try out some of the more unique products. We can tell that you are passionate and excited to test, share and continually build your smart home. We can connect with your content so easily bc it’s genuine. Im sure that many of us are just like you, constantly tinkering with our setups, trying different products, moving products in different configurations etc. It’s awesome to see someone who’s into exactly the same things that I am. I have notifications turned on for your channel so I’ll be here for every upload! Thanks again Chris! P.s. Your “Smart Home Stories” series is fantastic. It was smart to give those episodes a consistent and catchy title. Branding your content like that will definitely help catch the eyes of new viewers!

Wow. LOVE that feedback! I’ve been trying hard to go back and rebrand the channel in general to try to help people understand exactly what they’re getting. I’m really hoping the smart home stories catches on - That was inspired by my girlfriend who couldn’t care less about the technology but only wants to understand how it makes her life better/easier. :). Really happy to hear that’s valuable!

Chris Young hahaha my girlfriend is the same way! When I got my first set of Hue bulbs she thought I was ridiculous and asked if “I was to lazy to flip a switch” (< remember that sentence) .. fast forward 12 months later when we now have fans and decorative lights controlled by smart plugs, Hue motion sensors, light strips, the Hue Bloom and Hue Go, an August Smart lock, an Ecobee 4 thermostat and room sensors, and everything is automated, lights turn on when she pulls in the driveway, they turn off when she leaves, they’re all set to the perfect soft white hues and dim slowly throughout the night until bedtime. We never have to change the temperature bc Ecobee has learned our preferences, dont have to fiddle with grocery bags and keys anymore. She’s learned her Alexa phrases to trigger her favorite scenes etc. By this time we have a pretty built out smart home.. Well... We just recently moved into a new house and had a 2 day lapse before the new internet service could be installed and let me tell you lol ... I had the best TOLD YOU SO moment during those 2 days. Night one: we’re both exhausted from unpacking and I’m sitting in bed.. a few minutes later she climbs into bed as well.. cuddles up in the blankets, stretches and lets out huge sigh of relief and relaxation.. But what she failed to remember was to FLIP THE SWITCH to the bedroom lights ;) I looked over and just said, hey babe you forgot to turn the lights off.. she looked at me with such pity and in a baby voice said “please do it for me, don’t make me get up.” and I just said calmly “Are you to lazy to flip a switch?” She instantly realized what I was referring to. The moment she realized.. “damn.. it really has been so convenient having everything automated” was PRICELESS. She just started laughing and admitted that she was skeptical at first but now she realizes that it’s WAY more than “being lazy.” Having your house working for you saves you so much wasted time, money, pointless moving around and allows for comfort that isn’t even possible with standard products. Just being able to quickly see or ask Alexa if your door is locked before you fall asleep, having the flood lights turn on when you get home at night to light your way and show you there’s nothing hiding in the dark, Having the thermostat slowly warm up the house before you wake so you’re not shivering while getting ready.. are all just part of a collection of tiny things that make a huge difference in your quality of life ya know. Sorry this is so long! Just thought it was funny.

Chris Young One last thing, I just realized you’ve got all your playlists organized very nicely but I couldn’t find a “Smart Home Tour” playlist. You should make one. I think that the Smart Home Tour playlist, The HomeKit Playlist, the Smart Home Stories playlist and separate playlists for whatever video series you come out with in the future will be the main pillars within your playlist tab. Making it super easy for new comers to click and watch a whole catalog of your content based around the same topics wether that be Room Tours, showing your actual setup or “Stories” showing real life smart product implementations and tips etc. Just a suggestion :) Don’t feel obligated to reply to everything I write to you, I know your busy!

I stopped at their booth at CES. Nice to see they are sticking to their promise of releasing HomeKit products. This doesn't interest me as much as the multi zone systems for the home. I think this smart faucet is better for an apartment or something like that. I am very keen to pick up one of those more robust solutions eventually when I install sprinklers in the back yard.
@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 6 жыл бұрын
Yup. With so many vendors out there not delivering on promises ( looking at you Ring Doorbells!!!!! ) it’s nice to see a vendor that’s putting some more than just stock tweets behind there announcements. I would agree that the full multi-zone system is a better solution overall, but for a typical home owner that doesn’t already have a multi-zone inground sprinkler, this is a great option. I looked at the multiple-zone and it looks like that’s somewhere between $1500 and $4000 USD to put in a system from scratch, not to mention the landscaping and trenching costs. Definitely not on this years projects for me. The smart faucet can fill that gap and help me save a few bucks while making sure my lawn is taken care of between now and then. :)

Thank you. I have 2 garden faucets, one on East side and one on west side of the house. I want to connect two controllers, one to each side. How far can they be from the WiFi bridge? Will the signal be able to penetrate the house walls allowing communication of these devices with the bridge? Have you tested? Thx
@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Joe - This is an almost impossible question to answer remotely. Wifi range is dependant on a bunch of things, including the building materials of your house, the furniture, even humidity in the air can at as a wireless obstacle. Bluetooth has a shorter range than wifi. Depending on what's between the wifi bridge and each faucet, it might be just fine, or it might not. I really wish I could give you a better answer here, but I honestly can't say one way or another. Best I can do is to recommend that you try it and see if it works. If you pick one up on Amazon, the return process is pretty hassle free in the event that it doesn't.

If you’ve got the USB wifi hub piece and the B-hyve connected to your wifi then yes your I should be able to use this remotely - assuming you have internet access at the cottage. :)

Hi Chris, Great review. I'm looking at installing something like this for my roof top Ember Defender sprinklers in Australia, we've had a horrendous fire season this year. Assuming it's connected to my Wifi, am I able to control in from say 100km away via the app? Thank you!
@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Bluntsound! As long as you pick up the wifi bridge with the b-hyve this is totally possible. The other caveat to be aware of is that you’ll also need Internet access at both ends to be able to control the device. I can’t imagine what you guys have been through, but I’d be tempted to just schedule the sprinkler to go off for a few minutes every hour to keep everything wet. If the fires take out the local internet access you might be stuck without access. Hopefully this helps!

Hello, sir I need your help. Will this unit allow me to have it run in the following manner. Example: Turn on at 9 am For 3 minutes then off. Repeat in an hour I. E 10 am run for 3 min and off. Untill 4 pm. And then stay off until the next day 7 days a week. Thank you.

You are able to create your own schedules in the app, so you should be able to do this I think. But honestly, I haven’t tried anything this detailed. I tend to just water for a period after 10pm and then again in the early morning before the sun comes up to make sure the ground has a chance to absorb the water.

Chris, Just bought the B-hyve about a month ago and am on my 3rd set of batteries....any thoughts as to why it eats batteries?
@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Keith - Wow. I've had the same set of batteries used in mine for at least a year. Definitely shouldn't be eating through that much. My best guess would be that it's somehow lost connection to the hub and it's searching endlessly for contact, but that's purely a guess that fits the facts. I'd contact b-hyve support to see if they can help you out.

What can I use to create a three outlet system with one outlet leaving it manual and the other two running on WiFi?
@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 4 жыл бұрын
Best I suggest is asking if they have a three way water splitter from your local hardware store. I have a two way splitter with the Eve Aqua plugged into one and the Orbyt plugged into the other. One runs a drip house for plant Walter if and the other is for the sprinkler for the lawn. Hope this helps!

I just bought two of these things. Each one came with a hub. I tried to set everything up and it keeps wanting me to update the firmware on both hubs. Problem is neither hub will update. The app tries to update either hub then it just times out and says it will continue to update the firmware later. So annoying.....

I an trying to set up my system . I have installed one hub and 3 switches (1 21oo4 and 2 21005s). Firmware has been updated on all. Now trying to establish connections via bluetooth and it accepts, then a short time later kicks them out before I can start setting up a program. Whats wrong?

Hey Umesh - Not sure what switches you're talking about here? Are you saying you've got a single hub and three of the Bhyve smart faucets? If you're having issues like that I'd strongly recommend you contact support at Bhyve for this. We do our best but trying to do technical support on these kinds of issues rarely works out well. Best of luck in getting this solved!
