Classic Smash Burger Recipe
Ingredients:
• 1 pound ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat for juiciness)
• Salt and pepper to taste
• Cheddar cheese slices (any Cheese of choice works)
• Burger buns
• Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, Fried Egg
Instructions:
Prepare the Meat:
• Divide the ground beef into equal portions (about 2-4 ounces each).
• Gently form each portion into a loose ball; avoid over-packing to keep the burgers tender.
Seasoning:
• Sprinkle salt and pepper or any burger seasoning you may have on one side of each meatball.
Preheat the Griddle:
• Heat a griddle or a flat-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat until it's very hot. Add oil
Smash the Patties:
• Place the diced/ Sliced onions on the grill and then place rolled meatballs, seasoned side down, on top of the onions on the hot griddle.
• Immediately press each ball with a spatula or burger presss to create a thin patty. Press down firmly to get a nice sear.
• Season the top side of the patties with salt and pepper.
Cooking:
• Let the patties cook for 2-3 minutes until the edges become crispy.
• Flip the patties and place a slice of American cheese on each one.
Assembling:
• Toast the burger buns on the griddle for a minute or until they are lightly browned.
• Add cheese to burger after both sides are cooked and allow to melt
• Place the cheese-covered patties on the buns.
Toppings:
• Add your favorite toppings. Classic choices include lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise.
Serve:
• Close the burger with the top bun and serve immediately.
