Thanks so much, this was really helpful! I was actually able to reset the odometer numbers without removing the yellow gear on the end of the assembly, and also without removing that unit from the housing. I simply took off the two black face plates and fiddled with the number dials it like you showed. One other thought: when I went to put the needle back on, it didn't have enough spring tension to re-zero if I just stuck it on at the zero position. I needed to rotate the spring slightly clockwise a few degrees, then stick on the needle. This way it has some spring force to bring it back down against the resting spot wire. I did this with a very tiny screwdriver to advance the spring by pushing on the little notch down in the hole to rotate the spring, then put on the needle carefully holding the spring in that position. Awesome video!

Thanks so much for this great video. I have a NOS speedo to put into my classic mini but want it to show current mileage on the car. Had considered hooking up a drill and running it like a year or more but your video shows me how to roll the numbers manually in minutes.

Great video series on your Moke restoration. I am restoring a 1973 Aussie Moke here in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The speedo I was given with the car is not original as the outer chrome bezel has a rounded edge whereas it should be a sharp cornered edge. You mention you have a collection of speedos/bezels... would you be willing to sell one?

Very helpful video thanks. Just done mine but am missing the gasket you have at 25:13 for the front glass. Where did you get the gasket from as can only find ones from the UK.

I reused a gasket from an old Speedo, I'm not sure where to get them from.

Hi, how did you get off the needle?? I can't get it off in my speedo
@CafeRacerLab3 ай бұрын
Just very carefully pulled it off.

@@CafeRacerLab I just did this procedure last night- my needle was stuck on really tight. I put a piece of cardboard like shown here in the video, then I used two screw drivers under it from both sides and leveraged up. The needle popped off with an alarming sound, but no harm done.

Is it possible to change the calibration? My Minor 1000's speedo got swapped and is now 14% faster than GPS speed. Is there a set of gears inside I can change?
@CafeRacerLab Жыл бұрын
I believe it is possible but this is beyond my expertise, I've not tried to recalibrate, it might be possible to use the old odometer gears in the new unit.

I can't tell, but did you take a stab at cleaning up the speedo dial? It looks like there's dust all around the colored lenses. Of course you'd need to be careful with dial and the painted indices, like maybe no soap, no alcohol as the white paint might come right off.

I used warm water and a cotton swap to clean the face of the dial.
