I complete the Moxon Antenna build, and hook it up to an antenna analyzer. I get a bit of a shock as it’s low SWR point is not where I expect it to be, but I hope my understanding on why is correct and this will get better when it gets in the air.

I built the 2m Quadrafilar Helix that was featured in QST. Built it exactly to the measurements in the article. Like, within 1mm of the measurements. Could never get it to resonate in 2m. I feel the pain. Talked to someone else who's wayyyyy smarter than I am who also built one. I asked him if he had been successful. He pointed to it sitting in the corner and said, "Makes a nice piece of yard sculpture, doesn't it?"

As an antenna with much capasitance in it Moxon heavily, EXTREMELY depends on height. You may have even lower resonance at working height. You should test it at least at quarter wavelength height (5 meters and above). And FYI, changing height changes fb and gain, for example, at 10 and 9 meters high same antenna has pretty much difference!

yeah Smitty. What you said. I agree. I wouldn't be snipping any wire off of that. My next move would be to get it up higher and up in the clear. I would also look at the balun and feedpoint and coax length. Keep us posted. ...looking forward to the next segment. 73.

Yeah, you and a lot of other people. Problem is, I never got the antenna working, and it has since come down and been taken apart. :-( Sorry.

May I ask, where did you get the fiberglass poles from?

Those are "Crappy Poles" from ebay. They're actually carbon fiber, though in hind sight I'm not sure I'd recommend carbon fiber since it is conductive and does affect the antenna. Since it's not IMMEDIATELY parallel to the wire, it might be ok. I took this antenna down before getting it completed (replaced it with a Comet H422 which includes 40m) so I don't really know how well it would do.

do you have a vedio on the 40 meters moxon I want to build one

No. I WANTED to build a 40m moxon, but it's just too large to do with unsupported wire. Even the 20m I was building was rediculously large, which is a large part of why I never got it working, hence the lack of a Part 3 video. I'm sure a 40m moxon would work ELECTRICALLY, but the physical construction would have to be more complex for structural support reasons. Instead, I'm looking at a Hex Beam. Most 40m Hex Beam designs I've seen have a dipole config for the 40m element, no reflector, so it wouldn't perform as well as a moxon (which is a 2 element antenna). But getting a rotatable 40m dipole on the same antenna/feedline as a 2 element beam on 20/17/15/12/10/6 would be a pretty nice compromise, especially with Cycle 25 coming on strong now.
