I have a question, is there a particular family of blend that you prefer to smoke in churchwardens or not at all?

@@SilkySmooth73 I prefer straight virginia blends in general, and English blends need to have the right balancing amount of Latakia for me to enjoy consistently. Pipe type/size doesn’t really matter TOO much for my enjoyment, but these days I do gravitate more towards smaller briar bowls.

In commemoration of Hobbit Day, tonight I'm smoking Gawith Hoggarth's Ennerdale Flake in my Savinelli 401 smooth churchwarden! I picked Ennerdale for the occasion because I can only imagine that this is what the Istari would have smoked if they had it. Ennerdale tastes like ethereal magic, like no leaf known to the world of men or halfling. The flavor is almost indescribable, like starlight intermingled with morning dew collected from the eternal meadows of Valinor. Grassy and uniquely effervescent, bright and citrusy like lemongrass, yet deep and woodsy like the pages of a centuries old tome (and packing enough nicotine to put Radagast the Brown in a stupor). Ennerdale is a wizard's smoke if there ever was one! 🧙‍♂️

@@hobbitonpiper Aww, thanks! I'd love to see you do a review of Ennerdale Flake if you ever feel inclined to. It's a really unique blend and there's nothing else quite like it. It's simultaneously bright and grassy like Orlik Golden Sliced and dark and earthy like Old Dark Fired, with a top note that tastes like... well, like ethereal magic! I know it's not going to be for everyone, but it is a blend that I think everyone should try at least once. =)

I just came across your channel last week and love it; subscribed after one video. I finally got a Vauen: Auenland Balbor Sandblasted Churchwarden about a month ago and it is wonderful. I collect churchwardens and anything in Peterson's Sherlock Holmes series and mostly smoke Peter Stockbye No. 52 and Sutliff Old Professor (mostly English blends or Balkans, but I do like a very few aromatics -- waiting on my fist tin of Capstone Blue now).

Hey Kevin, I came across your channel a few weeks ago and have been catching up on the playlists. I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos; I’m happy to finally have a smoking buddy! As for this video, I smoked some Peter Stokkebye Oriental English in my Brebbia 8311. Had I known I was going to watch this, though, I would have loaded some Old Toby. I almost chose that one, too! Oh well. I had that same 50th anniversary edition copy, but unfortunately got rid of it along with most of my other books when we moved out of the state. Still trying to find another copy! It’s a beautiful printing. Great video as always. Also: nice gams! Haha.

I probably smoked my Neerup 6 inch bent Apple which looks like a small churchwarden, by accident as that is mostly what I’ve been smoking lately, without knowing when Hobbit day was… I know now, But ideally I should have smoked a 9-11” pipe, the perfect churchwarden length to me, oh well next year, 🎉

Happy Hobbit Day. Auenland Almar sandblast with Lane LL-7. Just got this pipe a month ago and absolutely adore it. Lane LL-7 is my favorite blend. I will have to try some of those you mentioned in the beginning of this video.

At some point I like to read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings as well as get the complete cobbit collection from Missouri Meerschaum. There’s a company out there that makes exact replicas of the pipes used in the movies but I don’t remember them.

Happy belated Hobbit Day! I did smoke some Mirkwood. Don't have any 'Hobbity' pipes so I used a MM ozark mountain hardwood I hadn't used yet.

Got hooked on Tolkien years ago when the animated versions came out . Especially with the music of Glenn Yarbrough . Was wondering your thoughts on the original ? May your smoke rings continue to carry your thoughts to Middle Earth .

Huge fan of the 1977 animated The Hobbit. Wonderful. By far the best of the animated versions in my opinion

Dam, have to dig a last smoke out, w an apt pipe-blend combo😅 Great video/lotr-themed pipe collection!✌️ I don’t have a true Churchwarden yet, I don’t believe, but as I’ve commented here a few times, I think, I did pick up the Cobbiton Shire (starry night stem; really is even more impressive in person, w blacks, and even a gold glitter effect, mixed in w the blues and reds/pinks/oranges!) ;And an Elf (w misty grey stem)✌️ SO, guess I will load one of those up, maybe w some Old Toby- wonder why TCS has stopped selling their LOTR blends, currently, as point of interest?🤔🖖

I don’t. It restricts airflow and flavor for me, but many enjoy them as it reduces steam/tongue bite for many. Try it both ways and see which you prefer

Tonight I’m smoking my cobbit MM acorn pipe (dwarf) with 2016 Butera pelican, hadn’t cracked the jar since then. Happy Hobbit day!🧌 🧙‍♀️ I selfishly didn’t want to smoke an oriental blend in one of my vauen pipes, like my Gandalf or Aragorn pipes, I keep my English blends in my cobs and save my Virginias and VaPers to my briars. Thanks you for the vidoes. In another vidoe you said you can make a pipe last 1 and a half hours. During a smoke this long. How many times would you relight your pipe? I'm sure it vaires but if you could give a range i would be very interested to know

Completely varies based on the cut, how dry the tobacco was, the pipe, how much attention I’m giving it, even the humidity in the air. There are so many variables. My advice is not to worry about it. Relax and relight as necessary. :)

I have not. I’m aware of them, and it seems all of them are made of cherry wood. That keeps their costs down, but I’d love to see briar versions.

Whoa, are you smoking that pipe or is that pipe smoking you? Joking aside, I started reading The Lord of the Rings for the first time when that atrocious TV series came out. I'm a couple of chapters into the Two Towers, and not incidentally, I'm smoking a bowl with you as I watch this today.
