In my evolution as a pipe smoker, I've gone from clays to vintage Ropps to now strictly cobs. Interesting enough I've run the gauntlet of aromatics and find myself smoking only Prince Albert in a Missouri Meercham cob. The local coffee shop has even accomodated me with a few chairs and table out front. Thanks for sharing this.

Great to see you again, Kevin. It's been too long. I am smoking some Old Toby in Cary's magic inch pipe with you today. I was your 500 subscribers GAW winner, and that was back in the day. You have progressed a long way, my friend. I have had a few friends that I have helped in the same way you do. I usually start them out on something a little lighter, like Velvet or Carter Hall. I may reconsider the Cult Blood Red Moon next time. Some are now still enjoying their pipe, but others said it was not for them. I respect their decision either way. Thank you for introducing me to pipe smoking. I enjoy your pipe story videos and the tobacco reviews. Today I'm smoking Awakend Elder in my Savinelli 601 churchwarden. And enjoy it very much. I've still got a lot to learn it's only been a few months since I started my pipe smoking journey. But there's nothing better than relaxing on my back deck with my dog and a good pipe. You're the reason I made pipe smoking a new hobby back in January of this year. Its relaxing and helps me forget about life for a while. I prefer churchwarden pipes and my usual blends are sir walter raleigh, prince albert, and capstan blue.

I put together a pipe kit and a few months later took it to an event that I knew some guys would be sitting around a camp fire enjoying cigars. Someone there was wanting to try pipe smoking so I was able to set him up, it was a fun experience for both of us. Enjoying C&Ds Virginia flake in a country gentleman.

Hey pal, I’m a new pipe smoker. Approximately 6 weeks now Still learning the ropes. Don’t have anyone to learn off except YT. Looking forward to going into town and get some variety in my tobacco, my wife dislikes it so I’m trying to enjoy and relax with other people via YT. Greetings from Providence in the Ocean State of Rhode Island. I just smoked LJ Peretti London Flake in a Missouri Pride corn cob. The best thing someone trying a pipe for the first time could use is an experienced piper to help them get started. Your friend was very fortunate!

Wonderful vid Kevin, your happiness is contagious. Tip for new pipers: At 11:18 pay attention to how Kevin lights his pipe and removes the flame when his draw is over. Remove the flame before you're finished with each draw or you run the risk of the tobacco catching fire. Lighting like this will help keep the rim of your bowl free from char 👍

Great to see you again Kevin. I am smoking my Emerald Cob from MM with a mixture of 50 percent C & D Yorktown and 50 percent Nutty Irishman. By the way going 50 percent Nutty Irishman with 50 percent Bayou Morning is really good. It sounds like your teaching method is spot on. Even with simplification you made it seem like a special process, which it is. Excellent advice from your mother for all of us. Have a good one!

I simply smoked my pipe around my friends and Co workers then I keep a box of old pipes I picked up cheap and tobacco I don't particularly enjoy. Within a few months I had a half dozen friends that all smoke the pipe. Most have bought a few and smoke regularly. It's so easy to drum up interest especially when like myself you smoke an Aromatic that smells good such as my Vanilla creams like McBarren Vanilla, John Cottons Vanilla or Dan's Sweet Vanilla Honey dew. Then for most people's first blend I tend to hand them a jar of Eileens Dream or Blood Red Moon. Unless I know they are a Cigar anti sweet smoke kinda person and those I give Mississippi River or Night train. Funny bit is I HATE both Eileens Dream and blood red moon but damn new smokers love them.

Great video! Im sitting out trying Presbyterian mixture for the first time and loving it in a basket pipe. Im still early on my pipe journey, but ive tried to get a few people involved in this hobby. I've used your advice and gotten them a good corn cob and i usually send them a sampler bag of a few of my favorites. Usually enough for a bowl or 2. Blood Red Moon is always a favorite of theirs ive found.

Kindness is definitely a wonderful thing to practice, and it costs one nothing. Thanks for letting that particular flag fly. I’m trying some Amphora Virginia from the oft-recommended 5-pouch sampler, and I’ve gotta tell you, every one of these has been amazing. I fell in love with the Kentucky on my first bowl, and the burley was like smoking oatmeal. The first half of this Virginia pipe was all about citrus and hay, and it flipped like a switch to bread and grains at the halfway point. Utterly delicious!

Just found your channel and just subbed. Really enjoyed this video. I am an occasional piper/cigar smoker AND my hobby just happens to be exploring the Arkansas river. So, this video was a special treat for me. I enjoyed an Ashton maduro cigar while I watched. Hey Kevin, thanks for the chat! Sitting here with some SPC Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel Aged in 2019 Peterson St Patricks Day 303. I haven't been able to get many of friends to smoke a pipe with me. Mostly just my dad, but we've been smoking together for about 10 years or better, no complaints there though.. Finally found a group of folks that started meeting up once a month here in KS. Pretty refreshing to be able to sit around and talk pipe talk. I do think one of my D&D buddies smokes a pipe though, gonna have to press him on that to find out.

Well howdy once again! I tend to be a late night pipe smoker, sitting down to relax with a bowl once all the day's work is done and everyone else in my home has gone to bed, so I really enjoy your Smoke With Me videos! You're incredibly pleasant and relaxing to listen to, very knowledgeable and well spoken, and it's just nice to feel like I've got a little company when I'm winding down for the night with a good pipe. Speaking of the pipe, after smoking Elizabethan Mixture in a Savinelli Arcobelano 606 KS the past couple nights, tonight I'm back at it with my usual Autumn Evening in a Savinelli 401 Churchwarden. It's one of only two pipes I've liked so much that I ended up getting a second one, so I've got a smooth natural finished 401 Churchwarden that I use for aromatics and a rusticated black one that I use for non-aromatics. I just really enjoy the shape of the pipe and how the long stem cools and tames the smoke so nicely that I never get tongue bite with them, even from the nippiest of Virginias. Anyway, congratulations on reaching 6,000 subscribers and thank you again for all the relaxing and educational piping videos! You've sure earned every last one of those subscriptions ^_^

@@hobbitonpiper You're very welcome! And I agree, Savinellis are really wonderful pipes. I like all the pipes I own, which at this point are 5 Savinellis, 2 Petersons, 1 AKB Meerschaum, and 2 Missouri Meerschaum cobs, but the Savinellis are my favorites. I just love how cool they smoke and how thick and solid feeling the briar they use is. I still smoke my other pipes fairly often, and I'm especially fond of any Peterson with their Donegal Rocky finish as well as my Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman that I've outfitted with a C type red tortoise amber forever stem from Vermont Freehand, but whenever I sit down for a smoke it's hard not to reach for one of the Savinellis.

So good to see you again Kevin. You know, my dad used to sometimes smoke “Revelation”. He would quip that if was good enough for Einstein it was good enough for him 😂. I’ve been on a codger kick lately and decided to order some match from P&C. So today I loaded some in my 40 yr old Butz Choquin “Palace” and smoked it with you. You know, I believe that pipe smoking is more of a culture than a thing. We as pipers, so to speak, really do enjoy the art and nuanced nature of the tobaccos and how they relate to pipes in which they are used. Hey man I'm smoking HH Pure Virginia in a Savinelli Morellina Rusticated 802. My favorite Virginia in one of my favorite pipes. That said, a corn cob and an aromatic is the way to go for the first smoke. I'll even pack it for them. You can't expect a newcomer to dive into everything all at once, so the important thing is to make sure their first experience is a good one and if it's for them they'll jump right on down the rabbit hole all on their own after that.

Hello from Oklahoma !!! I have become interested in pipe smoking. Unfortunately there are no brick and mortar tobacco stores close to me. This is a great video to those interested in getting started. Your friend is lucky to have someone to help get him started. Hopefully I can find someone who can help me in the same way….
