Minute Recipe: Surimi Salad on Greens. With daughter Claudine visiting the kitchen, Jacques Pépin uses a local blue cheese to make Mini Savory Cheesecakes on Arugula. Even when Claudine forgets to coat the sides of the soufflé dishes with breadcrumbs, they can still be unmolded for serving! Steamed Scrod Packages in Pimiento Sauce and Butternut Squash Sauté complete the menu's savory dishes, leaving a comforting Tapioca Banana Coconut Pudding for dessert.

I love these shows. Call me crazy, but I actually watch the "Brought to you by..." ads towards the beginning of the show rather than scrub forward. The products and voice overs are nostalgic for me along with his show. It brings back memories when I actually watched his show on the air. Fun fact: I actually bought a few OXO good grips kitchen tools back when his first series, "Fast Food My Way" was on the air early millennium. I can't believe how fast time flies. Anybody else actually enjoy the ads for the show too? lol

Tapioca is from a tree trunk grown in South East Asia, process into fiber, then squeeze the substance with it's natural juice, eventually dehydrated into powder or pearl form. In South East Asia, it's a very common ingredient for dessert, such as the Taiwanese pearl milk tea. Not many westerners know about a special cuisine from the Babar/Nyonya PERANAKAN culture, prominent in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia & Thailand. This sub culture originated from inter marriage between Chinese business men who travel to these region during the late 1800's. Their cuisine used a lot of coconut milk, spices for curry and sweets made from steam tapioca with coconut milk and is very creamy and sweet. There's even a Michelin star restaurant in Singapore which serves this type of special cuisine.

Interesting, Jacques proposed that they cook together when he was with PBS at the beginning, Jacques thought she would make mistakes that the average home cook would make, like not adding the bread crumbs to the cheese cake molds. Jacques should have seen that the bread crumbs weren’t there, but his idea of cooking with his daughter was a very good idea, then cooking with his grand daughter only made the shows even better.

I'm a bachelor. My cooking is so "primitive" compared to this. I'm NOT a foodie. I usually cook hearty crockpot meals....4 hour tri tip on my off days if I'm feeling spunky. Yet, I just keep watching these. Why? Because I might just throw some of it into my super simple self taught food. And if I can't figure out how, I just tell myself, dang, that was amazing.

She seemed nervous, jokingly berating her culinary skills in light of her father's brilliance, which made me nervous. I would imagine he's not judging her - and he wouldn't have her there if he didn't want her there. I wish she'd relax, cz it would have been easier to watch had she relaxed. Even though she didn't become a chef, I betcha her cooking is bomb. I wish she didn't berate her skills, cz it looks like she did just fine. I think the forgetfulness was the nerves talking.

Come on, that’s the master chef ! So I find her completely annoying and I will go back to watching the videos of Jaques Pepin doing his show solo.
