Once you master this swimming freestyle technique, it is definitely a very useful way to swim long distances. By the end of the video you'll know how to do at least one arrow freestyle stroke, that is the foundation. Then you can start building up your endurance and coordination from there.
To be honest I knew how to swim freestyle like this but I had never tried perfecting it. The first time that I did a 100 like this I did it in 1:11 and then watched video and practiced it longer until I felt comfortable to record it and show it. Then I worked hard to reverse engineer and break down the technique and everything that is required to do it to do this swimming video.
00:00 - Demo: 100 my smoothest freestyle at 1:05
01:05 - Theory: 5 key points
03:38 - 5 problems
04:04 - Exercises for smooth freestyle (5 steps)

You went through that water like fire through bushes. When I swim, there is a tidal wave mini tsunami from my arms splashing . If some one is in the lane next to me they get violently assaulted from my tecnique. Second, my legs sink like the titanic. I'm a breathless n panting mess by the time I get to the end of the pool from kicking so hard to keep my legs up.

Try to keep your fingers together, stretch out your arm, enter the water like a knife in butter, and pull back to your hip. As for kicking, keep your legs straight as a board.

I have been trying to improve my freestyle speed and endurance and found your channel. Your exercises and drills have been very helpful. Today, I managed to swim with a 2 beat kick and after a few practice 25 metres, it felt super. I am very grateful. Thank you. I try to swim every day. I am 11 and am looking to beat this other 11 year old girl who is way faster. Her time in 50 yard freestyle is about 27 seconds. Mine is five seconds slower, and I've been asking teenagers in my swim group about it. No luck. So my mom texted this video a few minutes ago and I'm already using some parts, like I notice our strokes and pace seemed identical, but I don't kick or balance. At all. So I have to work on that

Yeah! Just like step onto the other world. A lot of thinking comes "after" swimming (our mind is empty while swimming), like as we all get used to clean up our body but we have to learn how to clean our mind for entire life. Swimming give me the chance to mind each and every body's movement and posture. But running still my favourite exercise, it's meditation.

I'm doing a 10k swim in May, so your advice will help me improve my now no so personal technique. Haha. This is a fantastic video, and your instruction regarding energy conservation is spot on for distance swimming. One additional suggestion for beginners is to keep your “head down”, which will help keep your body horizontal. Think of bow and stern - head above water will cause back of body to sink deeper below water - which slows down your glide. This is by far the BEST SWIM VIDEO I’ve seen on KZfaq. And agree, your cameraman was an MVP.

This is awesome. Most of the time, only the fast front crawl technique with flutter kick is taught in swim classes, and I'm terrible at it. The two-stroke kick is what I do naturally, and it feels right for endurance swimming, now I know why. Interesting to see is that you wait with the other hand inside the water and not outside. I always have the feeling this causes resistance, but maybe I need to train the entry and waiting hand position more.

Got a bit sloppy as I had done another 45 mins before! Next goal is yo work on corr strength so I can dolphin kick qnd keep better streamline.

Tried this today and my muscles are sore at places i've never felt before after swimming. It is comforting that i'm not as winded as compared to constant flutter kicks. However my muscles do get fatigued quicker than usual.

You are amazing!!! I have been swimming for years for the condition. Your movies are a mine of knowledge. By applying the knowledge contained in your films, I have quickly improved my technique and I am able to swim the distance of 2-4 km without interruption. Thank you very much

Oh my god. This video is so useful!!!!. I hope you can do more about Total Immersion freestyle for long-distance swimming like 5 Km

Hi, we have tried and taught some total immersion freestyle, but we don't think there are better ways of learning and swimming, similar to TI but different enough to make videos about it like this one. I hope it helps you.

Brian Long “normal fast kick free style” vs “this 2 beat kick arrow free stlye” which one is better for long distance swim ?? Recommend me pls
@brianlong2334
@brianlong2334 3 жыл бұрын
@@quickpresent8987 Depends on you but as a rule slower kick is better for longer distances. You use less oxygen as your legs need more then your other muscles as there a lot bigger. Edit: This is basically how I have kicked most of my life, I can get up to a 5 now after years of focusing on that training, but only for 100LCM at best. But my mate can do 12 kicks but he also does 50m LC free in 22seconds me only a 25.

@@quickpresent8987 To be a better swimmer you must get out of the comfort zone. I can do 5k but I'm not that fast. I tried to improve by improving my kick and overall reach and it worked up to a point. I wanted to improve more and kicking faster is something I'm working on right now (results are very good). P.s. remember to also work on the pull strenght and keeping your core tight (squeeze your ass till it becomes normal). P.p.s. if you swim in open water (and don't have pools like in my place) use elastic bends during the cold times, you have plenty of instructions for improving your body fitness level.

I did a lot of swimming, short distance and medium distance (1.5km). I like that gliding is in focus with that „arrow freestyle“. I might be wrong, but Ian Thorpe (AUS) swam like that. Best idea here and enlighting explanation was „listenening“ to your stroke. Never ever was I instructed to listen. Great tip.

Thank you, it's very useful. I used to be a competitive swimmer in my childhood till 15 y.o. and now (33 y.o) trying to get back into swimming and learn smith new. Attempting this "arrow" style for two weeks now (non-stop 2 km daily) and still feel awkward and clumsy, mostly because of loosing the balance on catch-up stroke after the breathing. Theory and exercises bringing some confidence.

Luis makes it look so simple and smooth. A single arrow stroke has got so much of practice and experience to make it look like a dolphin.
