If Bulova made it a) smaller, b) screw down everything and c) Sapphire, I'd gladly pay twice the price. So much potential! Enthusiasts like us would embrace it - but Bulova seems to be afraid of really taking off again.

I really don't get putting in a higher quality movement and not going sapphire. Wrist size and taste varies on what size people like. 40mm seems to be a happy compromise for smaller and larger wrist. I agree 42mm will cut out half your base.
@JimIBobIJones
@JimIBobIJones Жыл бұрын
@@russelldow1131 Its not really a higher quality movement per se tho, its just using a new technology. The precisionist is still priced and built at an "entry level" for Citizen group watches like basic eco-drives. The finish and build quality is in line with entry level eco-drives rather than the higher quality stuff from Citizen. If you want to see a mid-range quartz movement from Citizen, look at the exceeds - not quite at Chronomaster level but a world apart from precisionists or basic eco-drives.

@J R uhhh it's not the same accutron smart guy. Bulova went bust and was bought by citizen. Modern Bulova accutron is quartz crystal cut differently from a standard quartz made by Citizen as the new owners. Historical Accutrons used actual tuning forks l, not quartz. They aren't the same.
@JimIBobIJones
@JimIBobIJones Жыл бұрын
@J R Its not! All modern accutron movements are quartz. Pre Citizen takeover, Bulova only made accutrons in the 60s and 70s - and those were tuning fork movements. They stopped using the name when they stopped making tuning fork movements. Citizen revived the "accutron" name when they took over but didn't revive the movements, instead using their "precisionist" high frequency quartz movements. They did release a special edition with a tuning fork movement in 2010, but these were $5k+ watches and only a few were made. The vast majority of the modern accutron watches are just using the accutron name but using "precisionist" movements.

Bulova used to make a lot of great looking watches - however lately, near every watch they make has an open heart, or an overdesigned look. I agree there is an opportunity for Bulova to use this movement in a smaller case, opening this fantastic movement to a wider audience (I just hope their current designer has a day off!) Thanks for 100 giveaways - they seem to be getting better and better!

Bulova made quite a few watches with this movement about 5 years ago but has dropped all but one or two 262kHz 3 hander designs. I have one of the older Surveyors with that movement, it's such a nice, simple design with a decent case size. Their design direction now is make'um big, garish and ugly. I'm convinced mama Citizen has dictated the direction but it makes no sense why they're taking that tack. The only watches they have worth buying are from their archive series.
@grayfoxv
@grayfoxv Жыл бұрын
I never understood why Bulova didn't put this movement in more (all) of their watches - it's a real USP. There are a few designs that use it but most are quite gaudy looking. This in my opinion is the best looking one! Other than the retro "steampunky" Accutron, that looks cool too.

Love the glide. I’ve never understood why more brands don’t offer high beat second hands, even if they’re not as accurate as this one. I know it affects battery life but I’d be ok changing a battery every year or two instead of every decade if it meant it looked so much nicer and I no longer was constantly bothered by the hand missing the damn markers. They’re already dialing the crystal back from tens of thousands of vibrations a second to one - just stop shorter.

Thanks so much for this review. I am subscribed to many watch channels but, until now, was not aware of your channel. I am now a subscriber. I was not aware of this Precisionist movement, so I am intrigued by it. I have always been a fan of the engineering that goes into a Timepiece, especially Mechanical Watches, that require no battery. I do own quartz watches, Seiko, Citizen Eco Drive and a Micro Brand (Kingsbury), Kingsbury makes watches that have a simple, yet quite pleasing look. What has drawn me to this watch is not so much the look of the watch, but the feat of engineering that is behind the Dial. I would purchase one just for that reason. Thanks again for your review.

As the owner of a Precisionist it's my favorite Quartz. That sweep is just beautiful - better than any NH35 automatic, for sure. Imagine if Bulova made that movement available to micro brands the way its parent (Citizen) made Miyotas? It's just a shame so many Bulova Precisonists are so ugly and gaudy. I really wonder who designs their watches.

Hi Gary, I enjoyed the video but when talking about s-m-o-o-t-h second hands I have to remind you about another Bulova -- the Accutron from the 1960s and 70s. This watch featured a tuning fork movement which vibrated at 360 times a second, and since the second hand was mechanically coupled to the vibrating fork via a 'click' wheel, this meant it too 'ticked' at 360 times a second, producing an ultra smooth gliding motion which would rival today's Seiko Springdrive movements. And this was 60 years ago! Bulova -- always the innovators!
