I think it's awesome that they cast Andrew Koji in this movie. He truly is an amazing martial artist. And if you haven't seen him in the Bruce Lee inspired TV series Warrior, then you're doing yourself a disservice as he plays a character that's so quintessentially Bruce Lee in his martial movements, personal interests and speaking cadence that I knew he'd make it as an action guy here in America from episode 1.

God, if there is one thing that gets my goat with Hollywood Studio work sometimes, it's taking actors who actually know how to do martial arts and such and chopping it up to pieces to a point where they might as well be covering for stunt doubles anyway. God, stuff like this just makes me all the more grateful stuff like "Nobody" can be exceptions to the rule, not even having traditional fighters, but they put the effort in to make it shot and acted convincingly.

@@neweden8755 no Snake Eyes has always been the ‘white guy is better at [thing] than the natives’ trope. Karate was crazy popular at the time but anyone actually Japanese was (if they weren’t being confused for other ‘Asians ’) more likely to be with the villains. GI Joes was super USA nationalism, all the bad guys had accents even if they didn’t say who they were (just ‘other’) so a white (often blonde haired blue eyed) Snake Eyes wasn’t white washed, just very 80s.

@44excalibur
@44excalibur 2 жыл бұрын
@@vysharra No, that's not the reason, and you don't know what you're talking about. First of all, Larry Hama actually based Snake Eyes on a real person, someone Hama knew during his time serving in the Army during the Vietnam War named Robert Light of the US Army 1st Airborne Division. Robert Light was a blonde haired, blue eyed white man. Second, Larry Hama himself stated that Snake Eyes “had to be white" because Storm Shadow was actually the one going through the redemptive story arc where he became a hero, and Hama based Storm Shadow on himself. Snake Eyes and Scarlett were his main romantic storyline and the emotional core of the GI Joe story with Snake Eyes as a tragic figure. It had nothing to do with any of that crap you mentioned. Finally, considering that there are far more white martial artists in the world(along with black and Hispanic) in MMA, kickboxing, and Olympic Judo, Karate, and Taekwondo than Asians, your argument is invalid. Marital arts are a global sport and art form now. The headquarters of the World Karate Federation is in Madrid, Spain, not Japan. It is true that a lot of traditional Asian martial artists became irritated by the rise of MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but they got over it quickly.

Tomi true intentions get revealed, while Snake eyes evil actions was developed with good intentions. I haven't seen the movie, so I'll just ask a question after some history. I always loved Snake Eyes. And I wasn't even all that interested in the cartoon show as a kid! But he's arguably the greatest of all G.I. Joes. In fact, it all sort of began with him! His original origin as depicted in the comics was that he was a soldier who returned from his tour of duty to find his whole family had been killed in a car crash. It was later revealed that the same crash led to the radicalization of Cobra Commander. Yeah, no kidding. So Snake Eyes went to Japan and joined this ninja clan where he excelled. His biggest rival was Storm Shadow, who apparently assassinated the head of the clan and went on the run, eventually infiltrating Cobra in an effort to find the real killer. Snake Eyes went on to join the Joes. On one of his first missions he was in a helicopter accident and saved Scarlett's life, but was gruesomely disfigured and lost the ability to speak. But setting aside the details of his classic origin story, what basically makes Snake Eyes so cool? He never talks. He never shows his face. And also, he's extremely honorable and good-natured. Just tell me, how much of that is in this movie?

I wouldn’t mind a new GI Joe franchise. I’ve loved it since I was a kid when my Dad introduced it to me. I just hope they can make a good movie for once. I’ve loved all of them but it’s no secret they’re not the best and I’d love a big GI Joe universe

They keep changing the story around too much for it to be good. G.I. Joe has always had to deal with outside politics and trends. When the series first started in the 50's it had the wave of WWII pride still going for it as almost every other movie coming out or TV show was a war movie. Thats even where they got the name G.I. Joe from (a movie). They even had comics. Then in the late 60's and mid 70's, Vietnam happened which hurt the toy sales because parents were protesting against war toys. So Hasbro had to alter the toy line to focus on other themes (like scuba diving, space travel, fantasy etc) and that nearly bankrupt the company. Hasbro couldnt survive on Mr. Potato Head and Hungry Hungry Hippos alone. Finally in the early 80's with the resurgence of U.S. patriotism due to the U.S. winning in the Olympics, the Reagan era, the bounce back from the horrible economy of the late 70's, G.I. Joe was rebooted as a smaller scale toy line, this time more actively using the comics as cross marketing by teaming up with Marvel Comics (hence Larry Hama), and later on Sunboy/Toei Animation for the cartoon. And this made them a billion dollar franchise until it all kinda halted by 1994.(when the comic run ended) Then we got 9/11/ and the Afghan and Iraq war and suddenly the U.S. was bad again so Hasbro started to walk back the 'Real American Hero' promotion of G.I. Joe, instead, making them an international task force. This was seen in the Reloaded comics, the Sigma 6 cartoon, the Renegades cartoon, the Resolution animated movie, and of course both live action films,. and now this one. Each time theyve been rebooting and rewriting the source material and distancing themselves further and further away from it because politics; to the point now that Hasbro doesnt even use official U.S. military licenses in their toys anymore. And each time it got worse and worse. Thats one of the reasons this movie sucks

The problem this film has story-wise more than anything else is the fact that Storm Shadow’s origin story was given to Snake Eyes. In one of the comic continuities, Storm Shadow was blamed for the death of his uncle but wasn’t responsible. Instead, it was a Cobra assassin who used one of his arrows from an earlier hunt during that day. Storm Shadow left because he believed no one would trust he didn’t do it and to join Cobra and rise through it’s ranks in exchange for finding out the identity of the real killer. Of course, Cobra’s influence and his jealousy of Snake Eyes made him do things a hero wouldn’t do, but even he eventually left his vendetta behind and joined the GI Joe afterwards. So basically, the only real parts of Snake Eyes’ origin that are true to the material are him being a foreigner, being welcomed to the clan by Storm Shadow and his uncle, and the costume.

Well they got rid of the uncle and replaced him with a grandma who can jump 20 feet for reasons lol. Prob trying to check more of them identity politics boxes. Cant have a man running a ninja clan in 2021. Give it to a grandma (Obasan) who dyes her hair blonde and is a moralizing hypocrite (like most SJW's these days)

The new movie should be called. Snake eyes: origin story of a whiny character who spoiled by storm's family will one day become a villain and the real hero "storm shadow" will stop him. What a way to reboot an honorable tragic character into this.

The character motivations didn’t make sense like Tommy was genuinely a honourable guy and it was unrealistic that he’d actually join cobra when he knows he couldn’t become their leader he’s not stupid and snake eyes he is a bad guy he watches people die he’s responsible for a lot of deaths and they don’t even get addressed

G.I. Joe and Transformers are both owned by Hasbro and have had numerous crossovers in comics and a few mentions and guest star appearances in the cartoons. Hell a Transformers character Marissa Faireborn is the daughter of Flint and Lady Jaye so there is a lot of precedent for the two to crossover.

They should make the sequel a solo storm shadow film. And in the movie, they should have him fight snake eyes. And during the fight, he slits snake eyes’s throat or somehow damages his vocal cords leading to snake eyes being silent.
