Thank you for letting me take a walk with you and your dog. Such a wonderful beach! I really enjoyed our walk and would like to do it again sometime. The beaches where I live in the arctic have the same wave dangers but for most of the year, the sea is frozen. Pressure ridges form on the ice standing up to 30 feet high from the tidal and wave action going on under the ice. Perhaps I will take a summer walk with my dog and post the video. I have to watch for sneaker waves and polar bears! Your dog would love to bark at a polar bear!

It's not just that the water can knock you down and pull you out away from the beach, it's also frigidly cold. You don't want to be immersed in it for a long time as you struggle to get back to land.

This is only samples, i remember near where i live, in a VERY SEVERE storm sneaker waves of several meters high, even three waves, one mount on another and breaking at the same time, the upper wave comes at incredible high speed and breaks a big part of the harbor, the blocks of this harbor was about 3x4m and united with steel bars, about 30-40m of the wall was destroyed, and about 5-6 meters high, thousands of tons of rock blocks was destroyed, was amazing. Storm of feb-1-2014, vizcay gulf.

In 1966'ish Dad drove us to the coast in a 1940s Hudson to camp. Drives onto the beach (legal) and a mile later, goes to cross a drainage channel. Hudson sinks. Ma RUNS down beach to find a phone booth (no cell phones then) to call a tow truck. Rescued! Went home to Seattle silently.

What a memory! Glad that everyone was okay. I don't drive on the beach at all anymore. Getting stuck is embarrassing.

I’m glad you moved because I really didn’t want to see you fall and your dog get pulled out to sea. People are crazy to get close to waves that are unpredictable. I’ve seen cars and trucks get caught buried in 3-4in of sand when another wave hits. Scary.

Hi Angela, thank you for your video! Could you tell me what the glass balls are that you mentioned?
@AngelaRPierce
@AngelaRPierce Жыл бұрын
Hi Erica Erica! Thank you for your comment. They are Japanese glass floats that wash up on occasion. They are the great find of beach combing. They can be as small as a golf ball, or as large as a globe. The ones I've found are about the size of a baseball, which is most common. People who clean the beach are rewarded most.

@@AngelaRPierce Thank you for your reply. I'd love to see one, I've never heard of them. Did the white truck in this video get swept away? Seemed like he was in the right spot to be in trouble when that wave came in😳🙈😬

Love the way you said, ‘I’m going to do something reckless. I’m going to go and stand on one of those humps.’ Sounds like a good motto for every day of life. Not ‘nutso’ (love that too), but standing on a hump with the dog watching waves. Memo to self: find equivalents and go do!🇬🇧

When there's nobody around, we go off-leash. Especially when I'm shooting a video. Ever try to shoot a steady video with a dog? Not even possible. The sheriff's department and WDFW don't make an issue of it unless your dog is causing problems.
