I'm so happy with the podcast! I'm doing my thesis on a similar topic, and #SNG helped me find newer perspectives!! Amazing insights, and valid points in terms of reasons behind India lacking and how can India move forward. I loved @gauravkapur initiatives in finding the various efforts being undertaken to make India a sporting nation and not solely a cricketing nation.

I absolutely agree with Karan on the topic of Sachin Tendulkar. I respect Sachin for the player he was but Rahul Dravid is undoubtedly someone you would want in your team - someone who did everything he could to win matches for the Nation and not just show up his personal achievements. Downplaying the offer of coaching the glittering senior team and instead choosing the India A and U-19 is something which takes grit and determination. P.S. "Bollywood is mediocre"

This podcast is one of your best, from a personal standpoint I'm a sports geek and this podcast had me so engrossed that there were times where I wanted to speak and then realised I'm only talking to a screen. Maybe if you ever do a fan talk or something we'll be able to discuss this. I'm an ardent follower of the NBA (Okc), the EPL and UCL (well now the Europa league, Arsenal fan you see) and play basketball daily. Aside from loving the sport, best level in the world, all star weekend and other things Karan said, one stand out reason why the NBA and other foreign leagues are so appealing is because there is a narrative being created which has nothing to do with that sport, you have people glued to ESPN 24x7 watching your Max Kellermans', Stephen A's of the world who are constantly feeding you insight and creating a story line and are not scared of taking an unpopular standpoint. Something like Gaurav was saying where the broadcasters need to attract the viewers. In India, hating on Tendulkar is the equivalent of committing suicide. Which I don't get at all. Imagine Peyton Manning doing the Kevin Durant joke in India, he would get crucified. When is the last time you saw a sports debate on Indian TV? and I mean a debate about an actual game not those bs debates of cricket>other sports. I believe if we get Indians players/"experts" talking about your EPL, NBA, etc on match days it will help a lot to get the conversation going. I remember Sunil Chhetri doing the pre game show for the Euros, it gave me a whole new perspective on the guy and I started watching the pre game show only to hear what he had to say. You have Manas Singh who is doing a wonderful job hosting the NBA pre game show, that show brings on so many Indian basketball legends that even I (being a basketball fan) don't know about. The entire college and school circuit in India is garbage and Reliance is doing something about it. Hopefully in 10 years it'll be good enough.

I appreciate Karan for making that statement about Sachin coz he has read about him, watched him play and then made an informed statement instead of just saying that Sachin is overrated... Kudos..

Let's just admit this was one amazing hour of intellectual insight into sports and media. Great man! Ofc would have been better with Varun and Kautuk in it. GK, you did provide us with a lot of GK.

I believe with Sports Minister that has a sports background will work wonders. But we have to be patient, things will not change overnight. Also a point that Gaurav said that people should go out and play sports. That is the key. One small instance was that I was playing cricket in Gurgaon with a bowling machine darting balls at me at 140kmph. I was just able to defend the ball let alone scoring runs. Thats when you appreciate the sports and hardwork that the sportmen put in and we as fans become a expert sitting in out living rooms. Also I believe we should celebrate people like Sania Mirza and Dipika Pillai, Satnam Singh whose family supported them through thick and thin. Sports is the best life lesson. It teaches you teamwork, hardwork, patience, determination, class during defeat and humbleness during wins.

This was one of the best podcasts you guys have done. An idea I got from this. Bring people from cult tv series like Hip Hip Hurray and Just Mohabbat to discuss/get their perspective on how it was while making those shows. Basically try and bring the young actors from the 90's.

Gaurav is one of the best guests SnG is ever going to have....what an amazing discussion....such podcasts should be promoted which would further educate people the condition of sports in our country....what an amazing guy....please make more podcasts like this....

Goosebumps through the whole episode!

The concept of American packaging is on point. Even their high school games are properly branded, with cheerleading and mascots ETC. The games have an audience with a full stadium and family and friends rooting for the players. In India school students are usually hiding from their parents and going to play. It's really sad.

This is the thing that Baichung Bhutia said in one interview, he wished to join Seville (Spanish Football Club) back in 2008 or something, but just the hype around the country and expectations stopped him, he feared what if he didn't performed and what if the country felt ashamed of him... This criticizing nature of ours if some team/player doesn't perform well is the root cause why champion athletes end up at some 9 to 5 job..

About a year back, I was only interested in cricket. I still love cricket but then I tried playing basketball. Fortunately,i picked it up fast. But the point I want to make is, for an 'unpopular ' sport, all you need is a great coach to light that spark

One of your best podcast guys! Great work. Gaurav was so insightful! He gave a different perspective about making sports entertaining. Although making money is important for any sport, isn't retaining the sanctity of a sport equally important? Otherwise the future generations will never know cricket the way it was supposed to be played. The real Gentleman's game. They will only come for the fireworks and cheerleaders if we keep promoting series like the IPL and T20 matches. That is an unfortunate end to the sport
