Hey man nice review thank you! I wanted to ask you, when you go to do a chest press or shoulder press if you use the 80's (or any really) How annoying is the uneven parts sticking out when you rest them on your legs and use your legs to push the weights up into starting position?

The only time you feel a tad bit is when it’s all on there so 80 lbs. but it’s nothing bad at all. The other weight increments you don’t feel that locking tip/part at all

If I had to change anything in the design, it would be that I'd make the bottom a little flat so that when I set them down, they don't roll away and also when I'm doing goblet squats, I can have somewhat of a flat peice against my chest!

Thanks for this informative review. Been doing research the snode ad80s and theres barely reviews out there... The only plastic on this dumbbell seems to be the adjustable dial. Hows the build quality of the dial? Does it seem sturdy? That seems like the plastic dial is the only part that "could" break. Thanks!
@DanesinTexas
@DanesinTexas Жыл бұрын
Yes they seem very sturdy. The changing ring seems well build and I have had no problems with either set. Snode kept this set with the higher more solid 10 lbs increment plates because they wanted it drop test approved; so they prefer them being a tank rather than flimsy. I hope this helps!

Thanks alot for making this phenomenal in-depth video. This video made me excited because Snode was one of the finalist on my list to picking dumbbells and this is one of the only reviews I've found. Ironmasters are off my list sadly because they've been out of stock for ages. My final two choices are PowerBlock Pros and Snodes. I came across two deals for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. PowerBlock Pros with stage two going to 70lbs (will update to stage 3 later because I don't want to spend too much now), all costs with shipping and tax along with 15% off storewide will cost me $839. And with Snode 80 lbs. it's 20% off with free shipping final cost $856. The regular cost for Snodes are a bit over 1k. Before these deals are over, which of these two would you recommend? Thanks again in advance.
@DanesinTexas
@DanesinTexas Жыл бұрын
Thanks man 👊 yes they are both good options. You have done your research 👍 I’ve tried both and I like the Snode better. If you can get over the 10lb increments, then Snode are the best. They feel like an actual dumbbell. I also love the old school feel of cast iron but with a straight knurled handle 👌 after using power blocks for a while, I didn’t like the square shape for non-linear movements like curls and lateral raises etc. It just felt off balance and the adder weights put all the extra weight at the bottom of the dumbbell…but I’m weird with my equipment so it could just be me 🤣 But they are rock solid! Anyway, either choice is a good one 💪
@Dial_J_for_Josh
@Dial_J_for_Josh Жыл бұрын
@@DanesinTexas Thanks a lot for the response! The Snodes are absolutely gorgeous, but what is also attracting me to the PowerBlocks is the 90 lb capacity along with the attachment potential. For instance, the barbell attachment for the Pros gives you a weight potential of about 200 lbs. Perhaps I'm giving too much credit to the PowerBlock attachments. I'm sure the 80 lbs on the Snodes would be great enough for me, but the PowerBlock attachment variety is very tempting. There is also a private seller online who makes knurled metal handles for PowerBlocks if needed. This is going to be one of the toughest decisions I've had to make because these two options are so great. But man those Snodes are beautiful. Also I just figured out a hack for the Snodes! You can just buy 2.5 lb. Magnetic Donut shaped weight plates, stick them to each side of the dumbbells and you have your 5 lb increments! So your Snodes can actually go up to 85 lbs! Man this really is a tough decision lol. Both Snode and PowerBlock have extended their sale, so I only have a few more days to make a decision.
@DanesinTexas

@@DanesinTexas Hi, hope all is well and hope I'm not too much of a bother. Given the build quality of these as well as the supposed improved quality of these 80's I decided to take your advice and proceed with purchasing the Snode 80's instead of the PowerBlocks. However, now a new problem presented itself. Right when I was going to make the Snode 80's purchase, in the craziest timing ever, I just received an email that the Ironmasters came back in stock and can confirm that they are in stock on their site! What decision do you think I should make between the Ironmasters and the Snodes? The site says they received a lot of inventory, but they will likely sell out within a week. Thanks in advance.

@DanesinTexas Жыл бұрын
There is extremely little sag with 80lbs, but I did see another person who got them and they were sagging a lot….I think that was a rare incident though but worth checking out. The rattling is so little that even with all the weight it’s not a big deal. They rattle a lot less than the others I’ve tried (core, bow, pwr blocks etc). I hope this helps.

Was going to comment that you already have fixed dumbbells so why get adjustables. (Then I saw the end where they were sent as a review pair - that’s cool) *Honestly don’t know why the adjustables can’t be a little taller to put the width in just a bit. Also, for the price of (any of the brands) go to 50kg. 😜 Last, it not least, metal mechanism is a must - for price. Someone pointed out the price is due to space saving and comparable to a full set of fixed dumbbells, problem is one person is hogging it - whether at home or gym. (We don’t all press the same weight) And on top of that the price isn’t even for a set 😜 What’s with the Danes in Texas? Danish ancestry? (No accent)
@DanesinTexas
@DanesinTexas Жыл бұрын
Yea, we liked that they reached out to small channel , and actually changed some things from our first review. They tried to make them heavier but the way they build them it wouldn’t be as sturdy and drop resistant, so they kept it at 80lbs. But overall very solid DBs. I was born and raised in Denmark and came to the US to attend college, hence the Danes (got 4 kids now 😵‍💫😵‍💫😆😆). Not too much of an accent since I’ve been here a while, but we also get thrown a ton of languages at us in school back home. When you are from a tiny country you have no choice but to adapt 🇺🇸🇩🇰👍 thanks for watching and commenting.

Great review! But my 3 main concerns are as follows. 1. The center telescoping bar mostly plastic with a inner bar being metal or iron as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong). Worried the plastic parts will wear out over time if the Snodes are used daily. 2. It only goes up in increments of 10lbs. Wish they would just add magnetic PlateMate type plates (2.5lbs each) to the purchase. Would be simple to do, imo, and would easily alleviate the issue of the 10lb increment issue. 3. The inner gears are part plastic, part metal. Worried the plastic parts will wear out over time if the Snodes are used daily. Otherwise great dumbbells.
@DanesinTexas
@DanesinTexas Жыл бұрын
Yea definitely agree. Now the inner telescope bar is metal with plastic cover…I wouldn’t want to hear metal on metal screeching, but yea depending on how well it is made, it probably would wear some or more with time. I tried the magnetic 2.5 plates and they work really well, I did a vid on them where you can see them, and yes, they should include those for sure👍

@dammitjim9131
@dammitjim9131 Жыл бұрын
Could you give me your opinion on the situation I have with my Snodes 80lbs? The telescoping bar doesn't go out evenly on one of the dumbbells. At 80lbs, one end is 5/16 inches into the last plates, while the other end is 3/16 inches into the last plates. ie. regardless of the weight used, one end is 2/16 inches less into the plate. The other dumbbells, on either side is 5/16 inches into the 80lbs plate on both sides so that seems normal. Do you think this is a concern? I know that plates have little play, but 3/16 into the last plate seem like the minimum and, imo, the minimum is not safe.
