Ok, i have the exact blower, had it for 15 yrs, the thing surged just like yours is, i finally fixed the problem, & it was not a dirty jet like i thought it was, the problem is yr Pilot Jet, remove yr Pilot Jet , their is a little brass pc. inside of the black plastic jet plug, take 1/16" drill bit, & attempt to drill yr pilot jet out, it will automatically spin because you wont be able to drill it out, at that point, push the brass pc completely out, Remove the Whole Brass Pc. it is ok, & i promise you just fixed yr problem, it will not be too rich or nothing bad, you wont have to run with the choke on anymore, Guaranteed 👍, you just fixed the problem, they put such a small pilot jet in there for California emissions laws ....IT IS NOT A DIRTY CARB, IT IS YR PILOT JET, REMOVE THE WHOLE BRASS PC.INSIDE THE BLACK PLUG PILOT JET, THAT WILL FIX THE SURGING !!!!!

Great comment, I believe the idle jets are designed to run the engine very lean under no load so it can pass the EPA requirements. Under load, the engine should not surge if the main jets are clean. I should take it apart some day to get to that idle jet on the top and enlarge or remove the metal piece as you mentioned. For now, I am fine with it surging at idle.

Sea Foam works, but you have to use in all the time. Always mix it in every time you fill your gas can. Make sure you have a well sealed gas can. I have been using Sea Foam for years with very good results. Good luck.

According to Sea Foam, when dealing with a dirty carburetor, you can use Sea Foam up to a 50/50 mix. If available in your area, I highly recommend using non ethanol fuel. Ethanol is the reason for dirty or clogged carburetors. When left in the carburetor bowl in the off season, the ethanol absorbs moisture and as the fuel in the bowl evaporates during storage it can cause corrosion and, in some cases, jelling. It is best to close the fuel line coming from the tank and drain the float bowl completely before storage.

I wish I could buy non-ethanol gas in our area. Mixing ethanol with gas leads to all these carburetor issues.

The best way is to remove the carburetor. There is a jet on the top of the carb you cannot get to without removing the carburetor. If you do not clean this jet all is lost because you will have engine surging and the machine will not perform properly.
@DIYWithIndi
@DIYWithIndi 3 жыл бұрын
You are correct about the jet on the top that makes it surge during idling. Under load the main jet is the one that takes over and in my case I was able to get it running again by cleaning this main jet (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n712Z7NoldjYhoE.html). Manufacturers size the idle jet too small so the engine runs lean to comply with the CARB regulations and it is a pain to get to that portion of the carb.

Hello, Since it's the end of winter, I ran my Craftsman snow blower until the gas was completely gone. Then I added ethanol free gas and ran it for my 5 minutes. Should I leave the snow blower in the choke position until November when I start using it again? Should I add sea foam to the Ethanol free gas?
@DIYWithIndi
@DIYWithIndi 3 жыл бұрын
Ethanol free gas will not degrade and clog like ethanol added gas from moisture. You can leave it without choke till next winter. Seafoam is not needed as well but does not harm to put some in. I wish I could get ethanol free gas for the small machines in our area.

Check my other videos kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n712Z7NoldjYhoE.html or kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gc-Ijc-AnrSlhHU.html. Usually these machines have problems with gunk in the carburetor from ethanol in the gas sitting in there for too long.

Seafoam or Sta-Bil will help to stabilize the ethanol in gas for short periods from moisture absorbed by ethanol which degrades it and clogs up the fuel jets. I drain the gas in the snowblower if it was not used for a month since snow blowers are prone to more moisture than any other small equipment. I also recommend draining the float bowl in the carburetor (see my other video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gc-Ijc-AnrSlhHU.html).

My Craftsman mower starts fine with the choke on, but when I turn it to run it shakes and shuts down. It started fine about a month ago. Can I just add 4 oz's of Seafoam to the gas tank and then run the engine until the gas+seafoam is gone? The gas is only about a week old.
@DIYWithIndi

You mentioned mower, not snow blower. Check the air filter and replace it if too dirty. The carburetor may be too dirty to clean with Seafoam. You can try cleaning up the carburetor float and jet - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n712Z7NoldjYhoE.html though this video is for snow blower.

I have another video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gc-Ijc-AnrSlhHU.html on fixing the snowblower which will not start due to old gas residue clogging the needle valve in the float bowl. This was the next step of using SeaFoam before I put it away. I think this helped in cleaning up the carburetor and it runs better.
