Getting harder and harder to get out there and watch people's video would like wanted a week I like snow peas two, But my favorite is snap peas you still get the best of both worlds the pod and then a sweet little pee inside. I think there very versatile for stir fries and all kinds of dishes to. Thanks for sharing Heidi

Hi Heidi, Thank you so much for sharing all this about your snow peas!! We love them but I always buy them - I NEVER thought of growing them!! And I also thought that I would not be able to grow them here in central Texas but after I saw your video, it motivated me to do research about them. And guess what??? I can grow them here!! YAY!! But I have to plant them in the fall. So how lucky am I that the fall will be here before we know it. And I think I have the perfect place to plant them. I am so excited because so many of the things that I have learned from you about gardening are things that I can grow here in the fall!! Yipee!! As always, thanks so much for all your share!! You're the best!! Love, Mary

In the fall, of course, that would make perfect sense. If we did not get so much rain all through the spring, we could plant them here in February and they would do well but the rain drowns out the seed so I have to wait until April.

I’m putting some peas in today and I wasn’t going to do snow peas because of these reasons. I like them a crunchy and was afraid to try and have a to eat at once. LOL I just cut my beans and freeze them too so now that I know the snow peas will work this way I’ll plant some. Gonna pull my pack out now! I used to hate peas as a kid. They were canned peas. GRRRROSE! Only way I like them is home grown. So much sweeter. I ate all I grew last year right out of the garden like candy! LOL Didn’t have even one to put up. Hahaha Course I didn’t get many in the first place but still. They really were so yummy! Love, hugs and blessings ~The Kid! ♥️ Oh and dehydrating some is brilliant! I have sage, mint and oregano to do today!

Those flowers are SO beautiful, I would be tempted to pick them for little bouquets instead of waiting for the pods which I LOVE... I thought they were sweet peas. I do really well with growing these in containers up my fence that is covered with chicken wire. Mine are still producing long after most people's whose are in the ground from bugs/beetles. Thanks for no blanch advice be us I hate all the steps

Good morning from a hot and sunny England. I picked 2 1/2 lbs of what we call Mangetout Peas (Your Snow Peas), variety “Oregon Sugar Snap”, this morning and I was looking to see how to store them. I like your idea of not blanching them and I will try that as blanching and cooling seems a lot of work for a significant quantity. Thanks for the advice. I loved your comment about your handwriting being like that of a serial killer. In that case mine makes me a multiple axe murderer!

Yep, I grew up in Wenatchee and lived in Moses Lake for a couple of years as well so I get the difference there and can imagine snow peas would not like it as much. I wonder how early you can get away with planting them there? Have you tried planting in February?

Hi ya Heidi! Ohh I love this video, these two ways r perfect for me! Hadn’t had a garden for a few years due to an injury but will have one next year! I did the garden thing to see if I could do it, I planted few seeds because it being just me, I didn’t want a lot to grow not knowing how to preserve them, sure, I knew of canning, heard horror stories to, then learned about the depressurization needed, so I got one, I did a trial run with water only, but the gage never moved, I put it away till I found someone to help me, then I got hurt, I did some water baths. Anyway, I didn’t do the blanching because I couldn’t see doing that for the 5-8 beans I picked a day. Was gonna ask how the dehydrated peas tasted, but found ur answer n the comments. And for this simple way of preserving them I will be growing some!....Question...when u said beans, r u talking about green beans? U’ve taken the sweat off my brow with ur uncomplicated ways of doing things. I stressed on how I could have my own food store, because of u, I can have one now and grin from ear to ear as I watch it multiply, and I’ll be planting a lot more seeds not fearing anymore that most will be wasted to rot. Thank u tons Heidi, YOU ARE A BLESSING TO ME!!!

Yes, I was talking about green beans, SO great to NOT have to blanch - what a waste of time - in my opinion! haha! I was just snacking on some of my dehydrated snow peas the other day, add a bit of salt and they are like eating a healthy chip, love them!

Heidi, I have always blanched all my Vegas for freezing. Many times they get ice crystals in the bag. Ugg! Have you ever put up Butterbean, peas, okra, corn, etc. without blanching? Love the paper bag idea. Your printing is lovely. Wish mine looked that good.
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 5 жыл бұрын
vacuum sealing prevents ice crystals. I do not grow okra or butterbeans but I have frozen peas (both snow peas and shelling peas) without blanching with no problems. So far the corn I grow is for grinding so no need to freeze, I just allow them to dry on the ear.
