Join me and my Husky dog Dakota to take a glance into the reality of living off grid in the winter. Mother Nature has no mercy as I struggle to keep up with the snow and cold at my off-grid RV homestead, and there certainly is no glamour involved!

Hello lovely lady, I hope you are doing great. It is a challenge living off grid but I have learned a lot. It's so nice of you to stop by and check out the video! Thank you so much! I will catch up with your videos as I stay inside on this very cold morning and tend the fire. All the best to you! 💞

Oh Debbie honey!! I got tired and sore just watching you!! My advice on those bricks??.... go South in winter!! Lol! Maybe there is a supplier that makes the smaller bricks for the smaller fireplaces? Like whoever makes marine stoves may have smaller bricks? But then, how else would you take out all your frustrations??? Lol!! Love hearing your dog talk!! Stay safe!!! 💕🙏

Lol! I love your advice to go south! 😄 I think there are smaller bricks and will have to see if there are any available locally, or check online. The cold weather caught me by surprise but I’m warm and toasty by the little wood stove. I’m getting better at anger management brick splitting! 😅 Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you are enjoying the southern weather for me! I look forward to catching up on your videos! 😊💕

@DebbieNobodyneedstoknow1 our daughter is in BC so we've been watching the weather there....but I think you got more snow than they did...so far. ?? Glad you are warm! I would love a small marine-type fireplace, but Gary doesn't want to cut a hole in our roof....imagine that! Haha! We are thinking of getting a small 12 volt electric fireplace, if we can find one with a built-in fan. Right now, we have a small-space heater for daytime (when needed...using furnace at night, if needed....electric heat cuts down on humidity, but don't feel safe using it at night while sleeping). We also have a small fan next to it to circulate the air, and in CC we now needed to get a small dehumidifier!! The one we've been using for 4 years, that just needs a self-contained packet, no power, has done a pretty good job at trapping humidity in the air, but we are not finding replacement packets, at the moment, and needed something right away. It's very humid here by the Gulf! The electric one is very small, but doing a great job!!! 3 things on the floor in the same area with no slideouts makes it a bit crowded. 😵‍💫

@@RoadsofFaith we do get more snow than the coast does. Nearly all of the snow arrived in 2 snowfalls over the past week. The mini wood stove has been such a great investment. I was worried about cutting a hole in the roof too, and was nervous about leaving or sleeping while the fire is going, but I have relaxed after a few months of using it. I get lots of humidity too since we are so close to the river. I thought the wood stove wood lessen it, but it does create a bit of sweating in the rv. I would love to get a small dehumidifier. I do use dollar store damp traps. They are disposable with beads and do help. Also a product called Concrobium moisture grabbers. I got them at a department store called Canadian Tire. They cost a bit more but also help. They don’t use electricity which is helpful off grid. It’s so nice to catch up with you! Wishing you and Gary the best!

Excellent!!!! OMG you really gave a very realistic view of your life. Okay, can you return those bricks and get your money back? There's got to be someplace that sells smaller ones. I find them in most hardware stores and they are a perfect fit for the mini...Looks like you have the cub? Funny sitting here beside the tin man watching you put wood into your stove. If that's the grizzly it doesn't really look much bigger than my cub but it's hard to tell on video. Chopping those bricks up seems like a major waste of energy and time plus as you said you lose so much in the process...wait, Be right back..... I had to put another brick in the tin man and I'm super grateful how easy it is after watching what you had to do...that sucks!! I use BIO BRICKS usually, but there's many other brands. Maybe you could get a pallett delivered to you? That driveway without a snowblower...oh boy, I seriously could feel your pain watching you shovel it all. At the same time, if you're into a simple life in the outdoors ( that doesn't mean easy) this video really drew me in. I can't wait to see some more !! Wow, Deb you live in an absolutely beautiful area...looks like you are out deep in the widerness. I love your dog Dakota...he kinda reminds me of Cruizey from vancity vanlife (his personality). I really enjoyed...you're the real deal. Peace~ Jack

Awwww, thank you so much Jack! I always love watching your videos and love your positive energy. I often wonder if they sent me the wrong woodstove, but when I measured it, it matches the online dimensions. If only it was a tiny bit bigger! I have mastered the splitting of the bricks a bit better lol. It isn't ideal, but the weather turned very cold here. Today feels like -30. The RV is like an ice box! I have been hunkered down and am grateful for the little woodstove, and even grateful for the bricks of steel! I will try to find smaller bricks when it warms enough to venture out into town. It is fairly secluded here, but there is blink and you will miss it town about 5 minutes away, with a gas station and convenient store. I really appreciate your support Jack! Thanks again for your kindness. Peace ~Debbie 🕊

I’ve been thinking of you and tried to leave a message on a old video. So glad to hear from you today. Gosh it looks brutal where you are. Take care of yourself Debbie. You work so hard. You sure have a pretty area where you are. Happy New Year and may it be all you hope for. Your friend ,Pam❤

So sweet of you to stop by Pam! Thank you! It has been a brutally hard January. I went to town today and by the time I got home it was -1 inside my rv. I have to stay close to home or suffer the consequences. It is very beautiful here but I rarely get to soak up the beauty because it is such hard work to survive it. Hopefully next week that perspective will change with a better forecast. Best wishes! Thanks again for checking out my neck of the woods 💞

Great to see you Deb, it takes a strong person to live off grid, especially in a Canadian winter ☃️ Do you have access to a block splitter? It has an axe blade on one side and hammer on the other. You can also do with a masseuse 👋👋 Take care my friend 😊

I’ll ask around about a block splitter, but I can’t think of anyone off hand that has one. It does sound like a great idea! 👍 The masseuse is even a better idea! Luckily it is not snowing this evening, but it’s expected to be -24 by morning. I’ve got the blocks split and the fire is roaring ☺️ Thank you so much for your many years of support Rob! 😊💐
