Snow Tubing & Giant Ice Sculptures! | Gaylord Palms Resort ICE! & Christmas Around The World

In today's vlog we head to the Gaylord Palms Resort to check out the ICE! Christmas event. This is made up of more than 2 million pounds of ice and features Christmas Around the World, an ice slide and more. It was 9ºF/-13ºC in the ICE area and it was verrrrrrry cold! They do provide you with a parka during your time in the ICE area but we would definitely recommend still bringing your gloves, hats and jackets. Then we tried out the snow tubing and it was pretty awesome! Afterwards we had lunch at the Moor restaurant in the resort and it was really good! We also definitely recommend checking online for a groupon for this event, that's where we found our discounted tickets! We hope you enjoyed seeing the ice and snow in Florida as much as we did! As a Canadian I find it humerous that you're THAT cold at -13c. It reminds me of when we went to Florida in November one year. No one else would use the outdoor pool because IT WAS SO COLD and locals we were talking to said they had to bundle up to go outside, but we were comfortable in Shorts/t-shirts. Funny how we acclimate to our environments.

In the week leading up to new years in Pasadena you can always tell who is a visitor for the Rose Bowl game, they're in shorts and t-shirts while we natives are bundled up in jackets for the ~65F weather.

I grew up in Michigan, now i live in So. Cal, but all of you dress for the cold, Tim only had a t-shirt on. In part you have to learn to dress for cold, even a few layers and a flannel. Ok but today I find it strange when in have to wear long pants. Camping in the Mts. last week it was 38 when dead still air, so so cold.

At the Dutch display you saw Sinterklaas, which we celebrate before christmas. You put your shoe at the fire place, sing a song and leave something for the horse and the next day you will find a small gift in your shoe.

Yep. This is a holiday that's celebrated in the Netherlands and Belgium on the 6th of December. We also have christmas like the rest of the world where santa leaves presents under the christmas tree :D

I've been to the Gaylord Nashville resort. That place is INSANE. It's one of those places you visit once and never forget. Absolutely loved it. This one is fun, too.

When I was about 8 my family came up from Alabama and where do we take them Gaylord Nashville aka Opryland Hotel. So we go in and I'm out in front as the "tour guide" and I go right for the smaller waterfall. My entire family 15 people or so head left. What ensues for the next hour would do both Scooby Doo and Benny Hill proud. That all happened after I almost fell off the A&C tower...but that's another story.

Yeah.. I was there in 2005 and it was something else. It was such a shame to hear about the flooding. I know they eventually recovered but it was really devastating for the resort.

FireCracker3240 I went 2009 before the flood- they recovered, but the Gaslight was lost. My last Gaslight show was Charlie Brown Christmas, and then it closed the last time. However, I went back this year for Charlie Brown again because of nostalgia.

Went last year, and felt I was gouged for every penny. The ICE was great to see, but everything was expensive, and the surprise parking fee on the way out (without tax listed) was the real kicker.

My husband proposed to me in the nativity scene at ICE on New Years Eve. There was no line and I forgot gloves, so I was running through it that he had to pull me back at the end so he could propose haha I almost ran out the door before he could get on one knee 🤣 we go every year on New Years Eve now!

I did Ice at the Gaylord National yesterday. There theme was Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. And they had huge Bumbles everywhere!!

What a cool place! No pun intended. Everything looked so amazing and gorgeous. Even the locations outside of the ice area looked wonderful. I could definitely spend a lot of time there. It looked tropical and foresty, but you're inside! I also agree it's amazing how the technology can keep it that cold in a tent. I don't know how you Floridians survived those extremely cold temps, though! You guys aren't accustomed to that kind of weather!

The indoor boat kinda reminds me of this restaurant they have in Tokyo where you fish for your dinner from this giant wooden boat and they cook it however you want! It's called Zauo. It's so cool

Just saw this. We go almost every year and have an ICE bag ready. Gloves, scarves, hats and hand warmers. We also live here in Florida. Its the only time we get dressed for winter,:)

This video is a lifesaver. I’m going this weekend and had no idea it was that cold. Being a Floridian we don’t have a lot of 8° days so seeing how cold you were from last year and how bundled up you were this year has made me start digging through the families winter box.

You guys took this like champs. I've lived in SFL my entire life so when my family and I went to do this in 2018, we were completely cold and miserable the entire time! My teeth wouldn't stop chattering, we had the sniffles, and we were speed running through the entire exhibit. It was still nice to see, but boy, we aren't use to that type of temperature at ALL. We even prepared with gloves and warm clothing and it still didn't help us. lol They change the theme every year and the resort has tons of places to eat. My family and I went later at night and it wasn't as busy as it is in this video so I'd suggest going later for those that are interested.

Omg! Wooden shoes!! I don’t know how it started, but someone gave me a pair of authentic “little wooden shoes” when I was a kid. And, ever since then, I put 9 little carrots in them and put them under the tree on Christmas Eve. When I wake up, I have a silver wrapped York Peppermint Pattie from each reindeer as a thank-you for the carrot treats. Except, I always have a special red one from Rudolph...and yes, I’m 24 years old and still do it

9 degrees is really cold. It's really cool looking, but I'd have to go out and back in again and again...I'd be freezing. If they added a little water on the top of the slides that might make it slippier...like when you go to an ice rink and they have the zambonie (sp?) go around---new clean ice is the slippiest.

Ice isn't necessarily slippery when it's that cold, that's why the slide wasn't slippery. If it was warm enough to have it melt a little bit, then you would have flown down that slide. That hotel looks AMAZING!! I'd love to visit there some day, though I can skip the Christmas stuff..

late comment, but I have gone to this 4+ times. The slide is all about technique, if you go down on your back and push yourself onto your heels and shoulder blades, you could easily run out of room at the end of the slide, I actually have a video of it almost happening to me xD.

I like the Iceasaurus Rex sculpture. :) You two are always welcome to come up to Virginia to check out King's Dominion, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and historic Williamsburg Virginia. I am sure a short swing further north to take in some Washington D.C. sights would be fun as well. We love all the Smithsonian museums and seeing all the memorials whenever we get a chance to head up that way ourselves.

I love the cold, I live in the Adirondacks in upstate NY. Right now its 15 degrees F outside without wind. I don't mind, I know it'll get colder. The coldest day I remember was -35 degrees F. In living here I do know things about the cold. Water freezes at +32 degrees F and you are in a room where hundreds of people are walking around giving off about 350,000 joules per hour of kinetic energy per person (heat). The room has to be set colder to compensate the heat generated by the people in the room + the heat of the room around it + the moisture in the air. When water is in the air it holds heat. Florida is very humid and it makes the ice melt very fast. I've carved ice before, many times. The ice immediately starts "weeping" unless all those factors are accounted for because its exposed surface area increases the more you cut. More exposed ice = more area for the heat to effect. So the ice cutters down there just prepare accordingly. You should too, If you went to a Halloween show you'd dress in a costume. This is a show about Ice carving, dress warmly.
