In the late '90s Metallica put out an album of all cover songs (Garage Inc.) - this is a cover originally by Budgie. You should check out the original to compare. Budgie was a cool 70s rock band. The whole Garage Inc. is fantastic.

Garage Inc is great. I was kind of tired if Metallica when it came out. I don’t hate 90s Metallica but it’s different. Load is a good album just not a good Metallica album. However when garage inc came out it was different. To me it had the 80s Metallica tone applied to covers and was a completely different feel from anything they had put out since justice. In hindsight, it was sort of a break from what was a couple of decades of subpar to shitty Metallica. Not until death magnetic did I really get excited about Metallica again except when listening to old albums. The 80s stuff never gets old to me. The only thing non 80s I can say that about is garage inc

Metallica recorded this as a B-side for the Harvester of Sorrow single in '89. The song, Breadfan, was written and originally performed by struggling British metal band, Budgie back in 1973 for the album Never Turn Your Back On A Friend. You guys would probably be a little shocked to hear the original version by Budgie. It's definitely worth checking out just to hear the differences between the two.

So many of their covers are my favorites, starting with "Am I Evil" and "Blitzkrieg", then the entire $5.98 EP, through "Garage Days, Inc." I mean, c'mon. Who names an album the amount you're going to pay for it? If you're being charged more than $5.98, you're getting ripped off, and at the same time, "Our music isn't meant to be sold at discount prices!" (That's not an official quote, just a lifelong fan's interpretation)

I saw Metallica on their last show of the Black tour in August, 1994 (fifteen feet from the stage) in Miami; they opened with Breadfan and nothing can compare to hearing it live! The intensity, the energy of hearing this song when the band first comes on stage is second to none! Budgie was one of the first Heavy Metal bands together with Black Sabbath. You should check out “I Turned to Stone” “Parents” and “Napoleon Bona part 1 & 2” by Budgie, it’s an amazing band who are sadly overlooked.

They weren't called heavy metal back then, and don't really have all of the elements of what's come to be known as metal in the late 70s and 80s.

@@eximusic So…? Even though the term didn’t exist back then, they are now, considered as one of the earliest Heavy Metal bands… and don’t have all the elements….? Then what did you just listen to, Breadfan… They influenced Iron Maiden (they covered I Can’t See my Feelings) , Metallica, Megadeth, Van Halen (they covered In For The Kill).

@@rubentullenaar2934 We called them hard rock back then. Of course they influenced the earlier metal bands because that's all there was besides Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Zep (who has country and Motown influences that metal bands never copied). There was no drop-D tuning, palm muting, or scooped mids back then. And everyone copied EVH after their first album.

Definitely check out the instrumental they did on their first album called anesthesia (pulling teeth) cliff burton their late bass player did the whole song on bass and it’s amazing what that guy could do in a bass guitar I really wonder how their music would have evolved today had he still been around love your videos too. This is what America needs to bring ppl together right here are you guys lol
