window details are definitely important. and also rain screens and air gaps. but what Matt forgot to mention is the Massive overhangs. they look like they're extending 6 to 8 feet off of the building. that's going to do the bulk of your rain-proofing and keep the building dry. With overhangs that are that massive you could honestly do a horrible job on the waterproofing details and still not get any call backs. large overhangs on buildings are very under rated

Probably the best Ryan's kzfaq.infoUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans on building a shed is hardly ever found. And Ryan takes the mystery out of different types of foundation options, etc. He even shows how to build a shed with different designs. Very comprehensive, covering different roofing materials, siding, etc.

Matt, I've got an idea for a few vids you may want to do. You do vids on new tools and techniques, how about a few vids on tools and techniques that have withstood the test of time? Or how tools have evolved over time, like levels, from ancient water levels to modern laser levels.

I didn’t see the earlier videos on this project but could someone explain to me: A) Why did they do one system on the main house and another on the exercise pod? Was it just an experiment to see how well / easily the Kebony Click-in System would work? B) On the main house…what were the stainless steel screws fastening into? Did the Bensonwood panels already have horizontal blocking built into them behind the Zip sheathing shown in this video? Normally you wouldn’t fasten vertical siding only to sheathing.

Now that our country is experiencing high influxes like never before in my life time our trade is under attack! Unskilled, unlicensed workers are more numerous than ever! You are one thee most well seen GC’s in the country I wonder if you could remind our trade leaders the downfall of hiring any worker who is not eligible to work in our country? Ok, technically Shou Sugi Ban involves Japanese Cedar. (Sugi). If that product is the Accoya product, it's not cedar. Using black in a hot climate is an interesting choice. The heat will transfer to the fastening system pretty quickly since it's metal, but from there hopefully the insulation will prevent hot spots. The burned wood may be bug resistant which would be nice.

Hi folks. In the UK we now have over enthusiastic building control (code) insisting on cavity closers (fire barriers) to seal any gaps behind cladding, at the top bottom and the sides. This creates issues as you need to ventilate the gap still. This results in some bloody awkward detailing with expanding intumiscent products. Do you not have the same issue in the USA?
@disqusrubbish5467
@disqusrubbish5467 Жыл бұрын
(As I understand it) The gap behind the siding is so excessive moisture can run down behind the siding. More of a drain than a vent. So having it closed at the top wouldn't be an issue.

No they won’t for free. They will if they are payed for it though. There is no extra labor that is so freaking easy that anyone should be expected to do it for free. Such a typical attitude from a builder, adding work to the subcontractors and expecting it for nothing.
