Every graduation ceremony here in the Philippines is really a big deal. Every batch (from pre-school to college) has a unique theme song that they'll remember and treasure for the rest of their lives. And for sure, they'll all sing it again and again during class reunions. I could still remember my high school graduation song "Somewhere" from the West Side story, some 30 plus years ago. 🤗🤗🤗

Yes, graduation song is part of the rites. We devote at least 1 week to practice and teachers are quite strict when it comes to singing and they would ask you to repeat the song again and again if they're not satisfied with the performance. Here in the Philippines from Prep, Elementary, and Secondary, singing a graduation song is a must. On tune or out of tune. Because it is part of graduation rites. Yes, graduation rite venue is always held at the school gymnasium. Singing a graduation song is a tribute to our parent, teachers friends and classmate.. I remember way back, we sing 2 song on my HS graduation rites. TItle Farewell to you my friend and Like on eagle.

We did this during our HS graduation as well back in ‘72 in the Philippines (yes-I’m an old lady now, in fact, I just retired). There was a big production before receiving our diplomas. It was a pain rehearsing though because coordination was hard but I was able to coordinate, train, and then we all performed for our teachers, principals, and founders. We did a medley of all the “goodbye” songs we knew back then including “Nananana, nananana, hey, hey, hey, goodbye! etc…” complete with accompaniment, harmony, and lots of enthusiasm. Even got to design our graduation dresses (white, closed necked mini dress in this really soft, thin, material with fitted waist and short, biased cut, flowing skirt with long, bell shaped sleeves for the girls paired with white, 2 inch, squared-heeled, close toed shoes as well as the outfits for the boys (long sleeved white shirt with black ribbon tie, black pants, and black shoes-everything had to be uniform since we were in a Catholic school). We didn’t wear graduation gowns then either. It was a lot of fun for us! Didn’t realize that not only did they not have performances during graduations in the US but that they were also quite boring in comparison. Hahahaha!

It is how graduation is in the Philippines, for high school that is. Normally, high school graduation are held in the school gym or auditorium. Back in the late 80s -90s one of the common graduation songs is That’s what Friends are for. All graduates are given the set of songs that will be performed so the students can study the song, usually 2 songs minimum are performed by everyone during graduation. No practice done as a whole, we just sing it after the graduation rites

Yeah. I remember that we spent the whole last 2 weeks practicing at least 2 songs before the actual date. And to add more to that, literally each one should sing the song individually in front of the class to make sure everyone memorized the whole lyrics and melody. You have to stay at the front of the class until you sing it correctly at least. It is always worth it on the actual performance in the ceremony. I always loved that part. lol

Our high school graduation song was "Hand in Hand We Stand", we almost didn't finish the song because we were overwhelmed with a lot of emotions. We felt a little victorious of finishing high school; however, we realized its our final day of seeing each other combined with the excitement and worries of going to college. These emotions were in us while singing our song.🎉😢🎉😮😢

This year recurs my 30 years high school graduation anniversary and I still remember we sang our graduation song “A Whole New World” which was trending at that time. We also sang our own graduation song chosen from the entries submitted by each class of the graduating batch.

Even SB19 songs are used as graduation songs. Its actually a thing in the Philippines. Even we graduated in pre school, I remember that time we sang "Thanks to you"

This was always one of the best moments. Most schools here in the Philippines do this. The stress the music teachers go through though to make this happen. I remember my highschool music teacher was really a very strict and scary one. But man, I forgot what we sang during my highschool graduation.. Not sure with other schools, but in my province since we don't really have that many students, when practicing the graduation song, the students get separated according to their vocal designations. So we have people singing base to soprano just like in a choir.

Graduation song is always part of every graduation ceremony. Nowadays, SB19 songs are always chosen as grad songs like MAPA,SLMT,GO UP, IKAKO and what we didn't expect is SB19's CRIMZONE 😆 yesterday we saw an upload here on youtube where graduating students singing, jamming and dancing with it, it's really fun 😂

Graduations in the Philippines in Elementary and High Schools (esp. in public schools) all include in their Graduation Ceremony the singing of "Graduation Song". Kudos to all the teachers who teaches these students to sing. Imagine teaching 100- more than a thousand graduates to perform their graduation song.

It's part of our Filipino tradition to dedicate every song to our parents because they sacrificed a lot for us. Seeing us holding a diploma is the proudest moment for them. ❤

It's a tradition in the Philippines. Every graduation batch in elementary/grade school and high school always has a song number on their graduation day. It's sort of a tribute to parents, but the song also serves as bonding music for the batch. I even still remember mine - I'll Remember by Madonna. Heck, even the titos and titas (and most likely our lolos and lolas!) went through it during their time. 😆

I also did this on my graduation 🎓 way back 2005 when I graduated from highschool. 🎉 We sang "Follow Your Dream" by Sheryn Regis as our graduation song. We also have another song dedicated to parents, on my time it was "Iingatan Ka" by Carol Banawa. It's a song thanking our parents who raised us and sent us to school.

I remember i was crying so hard and singing at the same time during graduation ( we sang Farewell in elementary and Glowing Inside in high school) Our graduation in ph is always like this. The soon to be graduates would practice the song everyday, a week or 2 before graduation day. Very memorable. 😊 Btw, I am watching this at past 12am and forgot it's past 12am so i laughed loudly during Efra's storytime about Katherine. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's a graduation tradition for both High School and College graduates here in the Philippines to sing their preferred theme songs. Before graduation day usually they practice at least an hour a day for 1 to 2 weeks. (Es una tradición de graduación para los graduados de la escuela secundaria y la universidad aquí en Filipinas cantar sus temas musicales preferidos. Antes del día de la graduación, generalmente practican al menos una hora al día durante 1 a 2 semanas.)

When I was in high school, we sang “Thanks to You” and our Alma Mater song for pur graduation. Rehearsal was per class and we were assign which voicing we should sing and our music teacher was supervising like 10 classes. Still it was really amazing. Those were good times.

Agree. In the school where I teach, the graduating levels (grade 6, grade 10 and grade 12) are asked to compose their graduation song (lyrics, musical arrangement and everything) with assistance from their Music teacher. Then they have a per section competition to choose the batch song. I am impressed with how they can compose their own song for this event.

Like we get tanned before graduating 😅 when I graduated in highschool, our school finally have a covered court/gym but we still practice for daaaaaays! Hahaha but it was really fun.

I remember my graduation because of this. Usually there would be different hymns and not just one song. For example during my high school years we sang the hymn of the school, then the one of the city, then a song of the country and various other things too. It depends on the school on how much practice we get. Usually we get practice by class before one big rehearsal. Oh and we do this every graduation. And yes even elementary school students.

It is in our tradition to sing a graduation song that will give morale to students on their journey to their next level in life :D This song will always be embedded in our hearts and minds and will remind us of our goals in life. Amazingly, it also gives the nostalgia of the past :D Some songs are also tributes to parents and teachers :D My batch was "Next in Line by Wency Cornejo" and "Thanks to You by Tyler Collins". Check out these songs :D
