The highest scoring draw in international rugby history, the biggest comeback the Six Nations has ever seen, and eleven of the best tries you could ask for. So, what the hell went on at Twickenham?
If you've enjoyed any of the channel's content, you can also support Squidge Rugby on Patreon by visiting / squidgerugby , so I can buy my neighbour a drink to make up for the screaming at the TV done on Saturday.
And with Malawi's 7s team playing for the first time ever this weekend, you can support the team here- www.backabuddy.co.za/malawi-7...

I think Scots supporters should genuinely get excited. That was nearly your third team very VERY nearly pulling off the greatest 6N comeback ever. Your starters are going to have to play out of their skins now. Maybe worth a cheeky fiver on them pulling a shock and getting to at least the semi finals of the WC?. Scotland are genuinely a team who could beat New Zealand in the Quarters then go out to Australia in the semis. (I'm not saying it's likely for Australia to get to the semis it's just an example), they could also lose to Japan in the group. High ceiling low floor. If the right players are in form and the spine of team is fit then we'll be dangerous at the world cup, hopefully

That game was Finn Russell (and Scotland) all over in a nutshell really. Rubbish one moment, utterly brilliant the next. @@petergeddes6652 Grigg is one of Scotland's (and Glasgow's) best tacklers, the thing about this game is he and Johnson were playing rush defence while the rest of the line stood off creating big dog-legs for the English to exploit. As an ardent England supporter, it was horrible to watch our implosion in the second half and I nearly turned the TV off after Johnson’s try. Looking back, I wish I could have watched this game as a neutral supporter to fully enjoy it. At the time I was so frustrated with England’s second half performance that I didn’t appreciate Scotland’s fantastic attacking play one bit. After England’s performances against Ireland and France, I was filled with hope and glee that, after our horrific showing last year, finally we are living up to our potential and we genuinely looked like world beaters. Winning a RWC requires winning seven games on the bounce, against (theoretically) increasingly difficult competition. Based on recent evidence, there is not a chance in hell we will be able to maintain that level of consistency for 7 games in a row in a relatively short period of time. This is why I think Wales are genuine contenders. Although they didn’t put in the prettiest performances, they won every game by doing the basics right and just playing well as a unit. I don’t think a NZ v Wales final is unrealistic. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the hell is going on with England? I feel like we are becoming the New France

I wouldn't be too disheartened, we still finished second and scored the most tries in the tournament. There are a lot of positives and I feel like this is our best team for a long time, as long as Eddie Jones doesn't make too many rampant changes. I think a captain change is in order, Farrell just doesn't have the experience. I'm still looking forward to our chances in the WC, I'm just a little more nervous after that embarrassing draw to Scotland...
@remyd1984
@remyd1984 5 жыл бұрын
imo i think we thought we had the game sewn up at half time so switch tactics to the BS kicking ball away for territory. if you watch the game again we ran the ball every time in our own 22 in the first half then in the second reverted too the welsh tactics of kicking, this compounded by the fact scotland came out with some fire in their bellies and scored a early try, if you look on minute 48 farrell kicks the ball away on half way when we looked good to play attacking running rugby! that kick alone tells me we switched tactics as if eddie thinks we are going to need it come the WC ffs! but props too scotland they capitalised and put us under pressure and we cracked but by that time eddie had took off our big ball carriers in the front row and put the likes of dan cole on ( attacking rugby is definitely off the table) and with his hesitation to sub the half backs that had lost control we suffered a collapse

Really agree with just about all the points you went over in this video, but I do think Ali Price deserved more credit for the Scottish performance, he's a much more dynamic 9 than good old Greig, which I reckon really helped us get the momentum we needed. In the lead up to the second Scottish try, Price ran a great supporting line which kept the ball moving and then because he was so close to the action was able to quickly recycle and send it wide for the score. And then he did it again with the chip and offload in the lead up to the third try ( that you admittedly mentioned). Anyway my point being Greig is a great player but without Ali we might not have got the momentum behind us in the first place.

Some Perspective is needed. Townsend came into this tournament with the best win% of any Scotland head coach of the pro era by some distance. We've had 9 first choice as well as several 2nd and 3rd choice players missing. Despite all this we only lost to Wales and Ireland by 7 and 9 points and drew with England away. Townsend did alright in the circumstances. I think we're on the right track

BW1994 Yes, but the game against France was abysmal, the last 20 against Italy was very sloppy, the first halves against Ireland and Wales were naive and the first against England bordered on the disastrous. That second half at Twickenham was pretty much down to Finn playing for the first time this campaign with some real freedom and employing clever game management. For me, even allowing for a terrible injury list, Scotland are playing the same ‘hot and cold’ rugby that Glasgow were playing in Townsend’s last two seasons there. Also, Scotland’s win percentage has gone down from 64% in 2017 under Big Vern to 58% in 2018 and now only having won one game in 2019 so far, albeit there is some mitigation in who we’ve played and who has been available for selection.

I think there is a complacency issue in English rugby. The top guys know they'll be picked tomorrow even if they have a bad game here and there because they're naturally seen as the best there is. If England selections were more like Gatland's model which rewards hard work and dedication as much as talent, then those top guys would know there's never a time, ever to be slack.

Yo Squidge. You may cover this in your wales video anyway, but i'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on how it is that Wales often seem to "struggle" against lower ranked teams (as in, they don't hammer Italy like Ireland or England), yet then go on to win against teams that DO hammer on the likes of Italy. It feels like their game drops dramatically in quality with lower ranked teams, then similarly goes through the roof when they play a top team. Arguably this then also gives them that perpetual 'underdog' feel. It never looks like they'll will win a tournament, so when they then go and do it it feels so so sweet. Cymru am byth!

On the plus side, Ritchie stepped up massively in the tournament. Our issue (and this has been an issue even last year) was that in 2018 we had one of the lowest number of tackles in the tournament, and yet 3 of our players were in the top 5 individual tacklers. John Barclay, Hamish Watson and Jonny Gray. Only Gray played against Ireland and France, and even then it seems like we’ve been found out in defence

We would have so many more records/achievements if we could just close out a tight finish. Still, nice to see the attack we all know the lads are capable of. Still need a bit of time for the front row, and need to increase our kicking for the WC (if laidlaw had got his late kick we would have still won). Pool C at the World Cup is going be nerve-shattering. French fan here....We could easily get knocked out. But then again the French team is usually at their best when nothing is expected of them so who knows! I think I'm nervous already.

Barrett has the physical advantages but I think Russell is the more skillful and ultimately better 10 tbh.

A Person apparently he told England to play it tight, basically just to see out the game. Instead though they ignored him and tried to continue with the attacking play that they had in the first half
