As to why the scene where Philip dies felt so real and sad is because the actors actually werent supposed to cry but the scene was so emotional they ended up actually crying, the other people on the set cried along

Fun fact, Shotaro's full name is Hidari Shotaro and Phillip's name is Raito Sonozaki. Hidari is left in Japanese and Raito in katakana is Right. So...literally left and right. If Shroud said that Phillip's partner is meant to be Ryu -- that's a load of horse shit -- I mean their names basically meant that they were destined to be partners :P

Akiko is basically a Rider character trope called the "Heroine" Sometimes helps out, sometimes is a damsel in distress but is mostly just there so the main cast isn't a total sausage fest. In the last couple seasons the heroines started getting more proactive, if not become outright Rider's themselves, but that wasn't really a thing in Double yet.

Shotaro and Philip use refined Gaia Memories. That, combined with the fact that they use them through their Double Driver (which limits the Memory’s output of Gaia Energy) prevents them from becoming corrupted like the Dopants.

13:06 The 2 episode arcs is a staple for the Heisei(Kuuga-Zi-o) and Reiwa(Zero-one-present) era of Rider. 19:58 A little before this arc, is actually W’s part of the “passing the torch” special with Decade, with W’s half(pun intended) covering the night the duo first became W. 24:14 Nitpick here, Driver in Kamen Rider refers to the Rider’s belt, and the memories are the transformation item, so they are just referred to as memories. 34:56 This actually comes from W’s standalone movie A-Z. Aside from the above, the other bits of connecting media is W’s half of their “passing the torch” crossover with OOO, who does make a pre-show debut in the A-Z movie, then the epilogue movies for Accel and Eternal. And that’s pretty much where it was left off before Fuuto PI came about.

I don’t know much about where in Japan Fuuto is supposed to be, but I do know three things about it: it shares a border with Tokyo (this was confirmed in a _Kamen Rider Drive_ special episode featuring Ryu Terui as a guest character); the layout was inspired by Gotham City; and it’s probably supposed to be a coastal city (most likely on the east coast based on the first fact) owing to the fact that it spans several small islands and has a shipping port.

I’d recommend watching the connected movies to w, introduces pretty awesome characters like Kamen rider Eternal and Kamen rider Skull. The first is a badass villain, the second is just badass and was Akiko’s dad. Admittedly the movies with the important backstories are crossover movies with other riders but their still enjoyable

Fun fact: The Weather dopant is portrayed by Samehada's voice actor from Naruto. He also dubbed Christian Bale/Bruce Wayne for the Japanese dub of TDK (may he rest in peace). The Invisible dopant (Lily) is portrayed by Nao Nagasawa, also portrayed Hurricane Blue (Blue Ninja Storm) from Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger.

Fun fact: the Lost Driver was also used by three other riders in the movies. The first was Shotaro’s mentor Sokichi Narumi, Kamen Rider Skull. The second is the evil Kamen Rider Eternal. The third is Philip, who used it to become Kamen Rider Cyclone on one occasion.

For those who don't know, Kamen Riders can literally control time and space like it's nothing and some have been stated to destroy infinite universes. So now you can say Ohma Zi-o and Decade solos because they have the powers of EVERY Rider (about 100+). Also, it's not canon but, Kamen Rider Memory of Heroes is a great game that expands on W, OOO, and Zero-one's story. It's on switch and has an english copy you'll have to import but it's worth it.

Wind Wave radio does exist in real life! It was streamed online and was hosted by Wakana in character. The program ended when Wakana left the job in the show to work at Digal. Wind Scale, the clothes brand, also exists through P-Bandai.

Good to see a new kamen rider fan, even if it's a modern kamen rider. I don't like most of modern kamen riders. But I must say, I actually liked W for being entertaining & not trying to act like it's an edgy intelligent show. And I actually like the fact W isn't over dressed for his job, which is something a lot of modern kamen riders like to do. Have fun exploring the kamen rider series. (And no, I'm not an edgy snobby American who fell in love with Black, I just get to watch the old ones on tv).

Seeing how much you like anime, Kamen Rider Gaim might be something to add to your watch list since the head writer on it was Gen "the Butcher" Urobuchi who's been behind anime such as Madoka Magika, Fate/Zero, and Psyco Pass. But my own recommendations would be Kamen Rider Drive, Kamen Rider Zero-One (and at lest the three post series movies), and Ex-aid because of the Christmas episode.

When talking about the gadgets, you forgot to mention a few things: > Firstly: you left out the Spider Shock, a wristwatch that also functions as a grappling cable and turns into a mechanical spider. > Secondly: Ryu has his own gadget phone, the Beetle Phone, which is identical to the Stag Phone except it’s blue instead of black and turns into a kabuto beetle. > Third and lastly: in Fuuto PI, Tokime gets her own Beetle Phone which is pink.

Man, Kamen Rider W really is a great series to start with. It was my first Rider series as well.

So the whole thing as to why they would lose control when using Fang in the beginning (and still later on at times as explained in Fuuto PI), is because Fang was a memory gadget designed to protect Philip specifically, it would overwrite Philip and especially take over in order to protect him. But the problem is it basically puts Philip in a fight or flight mode, where he can't tell who's friend or foe. It eventually took Shotaro stepping in and proving he can protect Philip for the memory to allow the two to have some semblance of control, though it still tends to heighten Philip's aggression when using it.

The movie is even lit where the villain fights like a military.

you forgot about the accidental incest between Phillip and Wakana if Ryubei didn't kidnap Wakana and turned her into a memory.

You should watch the rest of the Neo heisei Trio, those being Double, OOO and Fourze. they're all Amazing in their own sense. Double is of course you already know. OOO is in a way similar to Double but they build up upon what's already there, and if you know the history behind OOO's making its really cool how amazing the show turned out. And fourze is different and some people have mixed feelings about it but I think a majority of the fandom can agree that Fourze is amazing

Just finished the show and may I say it was AMAZING! Absolutely loved the cast, soundtrack, and plot especially the whole Gaia Memory mafia type scheme. Loved every second of it and can't wait to watch the anime! If you haven't see it yet, please give it a watch! It doesn't disappoint in comedy, drama, action, and pure Kamen rider-y ness 😆

If you want another Kamen Rider that is potentially emotionally moving, I'd suggest Kamen Rider Kiva. It has a story that switches between events that are happening in 1986 and 2008. Kiva has movies related to it but you can choose to ignore them because they're either contradictory or irrelevant to the TV series canon (unlike W's movies which are relevant and enrich the series story).

I HIGHLY SUGGESTS DRIVE OR BUILD!!! sorry for the all caps. I just got excited. W was my favorite rider in terms of rider design and story. next is Drive then Build. and (I don't know if this has been mentioned already), the W is the Japanese wordplay or pronunciation for "double" -- doboru/daburu.

So the reason Isaka dies is that he is such an avid lover and user of Gaia Memories. And he had absorbed extra memories through a hack he found in the system. Using the Weather memory as linchpin. And with Weather being broken, all that power and corruption runs rampant.

KR has a whole lot of "in the manual" background. hell, the entirety of the suits and belts have name and description of what each part do, and that has been pointed out in the entire serie, what, 3 times in 50+ years? one important detail that is the cardinal of the whole serie, and of shotaro ishinomori works in general, is the Cross of Fire: both the heroes and the enemy power comes from the same point: bio-mechanical transformation, monstrous DNA, completelly artificial bodies, being a monster in the first place, the will to give form to fear and desire, and so on

I feel it's important for anyone looking to watch kamen rider, that not every show is good, and not every show is bad, and some are good overall but have thier low points, I feel like gaim, exaid, build, zero one and geats (so far) are some of the best ones to watch, I recommend all of the series, but these are my personal favorites

I really enjoyed Kamen Rider W and I can see why it's a fan favorite but my favorite was Kamen Rider Gaim (though OOO had the best theme.) However, W had the best "movie" with Kamen Rider Eternal.

Kamen Rider W is the safest first series possible as it's arguably the best.

Don't forget that rider W also got a very good movie its call rider W A to Z which present a new terrorist kamen rider eternal and its one of the most coolest rider ever i also recommend you to watch kamen rider kuuga agito, ryuki, faiz , blade the era where the story was super intense and really deep also the design in that time was cool as hell mainly because its made for more boardcast not for selling a toy that much

They are not two in one kamen rider.... Just the friendship between hero and his partner feel the same as W.... And the plot its pretty much great.... the char development also the best... I feel "Muscle and Brain" would be Accel/Teru and Philip, that's why Shroud think they would be the best duo, but with Shotaro and Philip is Heart and Brain. Shotaro always try to be the "hard boiled" detective, but he is the softest of the group. You can feel it even more in Fuuto pi in the idol arc and in some of the "OVA"s (The tv specials)

We don't know about Raito til near the end, the mystery is why the enemy calls Philip "Raito" early in the series. The reason Ryu needs to do the Trial is because he wasn't strong enough to beat Weather and if he didn't prove he was fast enough he wouldn't be able to Handle "Trial". The radio station stars Wakana which is important as it shows off subtle parts of her personality and also Philip and Shotaro both simp for Wakana since SUPER early in the series so much where Wakana and Philip have an unintentionally incestuous relationship. Haha.

I was in highschool and W first aired. To this day I think it's still my favourite. The stuff out of Reiwa right now just doesn't appeal to me that much.. Also check out Amazons and Black Sun as well. Both worth the watch if you want a more mature and edgier take.

I saw it coming since He and Wakana first interact, the comfot feeling and Philip saying the same "Wakana's lil' brother" said with small Raito being now Philip in Wakana's Mind made it pretty obvious for me haha And Yeah. In Japanese W sounds like double. Phonetically saying W sounds like Da-bu-ru. Hence why they are called the two in one detective.

It's known as Kamen Rider W, because in Japan when reading the character "W" they pronounce it as "double" and of course it's called double because they are the "two in one Kamen rider" so there is no possible universe where it's called Kamen Rider DoubleU it's just double. Also the "Hesei phase two" era is also known as the "NeoHesei era" this video is very hard to watch hearing "Kamen Rider DoubleU" lol

I'm very late but some stuff about W/Double they use W because English and it sounds like "Double" also the W shows up a lot, the drivers, the chest of Kamen Rider W, and even the Double Driver itself which, when open, looks like the letter W. Also, you missed a whole lot of side content and movies that aren't necessary to the main story but are damn good and add to it heavily, especially the A-Z movie with Eternal. Some major recommendations for Kamen Rider are generally the big three seasons that tie into each other frequently through the films, W/Double, OOO/O's, and Fourze. On top of that, Gaim is really good, and Decade is good, but the plot isn't the best. But besides that, generally pick a season based on how it looks and just watch it. Generally, Kamen Rider has a very high standard with it rarely being bad. Even at its worst, there are still good things to say about each season.

I missed the part where you show us the powers of W's memories. Did you just named the power instead of show what it's do? Because the best thing about W in my opinion is how W can combine 2 memories. His first 6 Memories are: Cyclone(Wind), Joker(Martial art), Heat(Fire), Metaru(Metal), Luna(pretty much the Mask's power), Trigger(Gun). Some example are: Martial art+Wind will make him fight using Martial art and fast, Martial art+Luna will make him use Martial art but he can kind of bend his arm and leg and stretch them like Mr Fantastic(or the Mask), Martial art+Heat= fight with Martial art but his punch now explode with heat, Gun+Wind will let him use gun and the bullet will travel fast, Gun+Fire will let him shot explosion bullet, Gun+Luna= His bullet can go in a curve now(There are more but pretty much he can combine his 6 first memories into 9 forms) And then he get some more memories but I wish those new memories can go with the any old one. But seem like he just combine new one with the Martial art one.
