I actually appreciate something kind of subtle. Since this is a japanese band, they could have easily given secondary place to the western instruments (bass, drums, guitar), but actually every member has almost equal prevalence. That speaks really well about their cohesion and their service towards what the song requires. Plus it adds originality, playing a perfect blend of western and oriental traditions!

That mask is used in traditional japanese drama, the guitarist Machiya get famous by playing guitar with a mask on niconico (Japan KZfaq), so he will wear a mask on live occasionally In fact same situation for multiple members, drummer Wasabi was Number 1 drummer on niconico, bassist Asa get famous by composing master piece Yoshiwara Lament on niconico Vocal, Shakuhachi (bamboo flute) and koto (harp) is a 3 man music group which also upload videos on niconico You may consider them a bunch of youtubers

Every time I see a Shamisen I want to be able to play it. I love the sound so much! Quick correction on a previous commentator; the genre she plays is called Tsugaru, she probably plays a Futozao Shamisen. I am not sure but the neck looks thick enough for it. The Koto is played Ikura style - there are two major schools, Ikura and Yamada. They follow different notations and playing styles. Even without knowing anyhing about the Koto you can easily spot which school they follow by the shape of their Tsume (fingernails) - Ikura uses flat Tsume, Yamada sharp ones. If you ever need a break from metal - ok no that is not likely 😂 - let's say: If you ever feel like listen to some calmer music, the singer, koto- and shakuhashi player have a acoustic band called Hanafugetsu in which Yuko also plays the piano. I don't polish my cymbals, I keep them clean though. I think it also depends on the cymbals, some you can polish others you probably shouldn't. But these bands also don't play their cymbals for 20+ years and let's not forget that smoke etc on stage can cause damage too so they have to take real good care of their equipment. Then again I feel like it is more likely that they played with a new drum-set here for the filmed show then to assume he polishes it to death before EVERY show ^^''.

Fantastic comment ,thank you! :) And i do listen to non-metal music quite often so i might check it out :) And my cymbals...well the are electronic,so that solves my situation! :D

Beni plays a Tsugaru Shamisen. The sharp, hard-striking tsugaru style is said to have originated on the streets by the bousama (blind musicians), who developed a livelier style to attract audience. In recent years, many talented musicians have taken up the tsugaru shamisen and has brought it to popularity as a virtuosic instrumental style. The bachi is smaller with much variety in weights / flexibility for the individual’s preferences. The koma has a relatively short height of 8mm.
@passio-735
@passio-735 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly, the STYLE is called Tsugaru. As I understand it you usually play it with a Futozao Shamisen. It seems the words have been started to be used synonimously because the style is more well known nowadays but it is actually not quite correct ^^'. Being a wandering musician was like the go-to-job for blind people at the beginning of the 20th century. A elderly player would take a couple of students and teach the songs and playing styles of the instrument. There were no sheet music or anything and the way to play a song was very strict. The Tsugaru style started with Shirakawa Gunpachiro who was a student of Nitabo. Between him, Takahashi Chikuzan and Kida Rinshoe the style was developed and gained popularity in the 30s. As foreign music, especially Jazz came to Japan they noticed a decrise in income because their strict way of playing wasn't interesting anymore. Tsugaru combined all known playing styles and allowed for a more creative approach - needless to say that the teacher/student agreements slowly died and increasingly less Shamisen players were blind by the 50s.

@@passio-735 Yes, In the early part of the 20th century, blind musicians, including Shirakawa Gunpachirō Takahashi Chikuzan , and sighted players such as Kida Rinshōei evolved a new style of playing, based on traditional folk songs ("min'yō") but involving much improvisation and flashy fingerwork. This style - now known as Tsugaru-jamisen, after the home region of this style in the north of Honshū - continues to be relatively popular in Japan. The virtuosic Tsugaru-jamisen style is sometimes compared to bluegrass banjo.

Wagakkiband is composed of several people who have been national champions in Japan for their chosen instruments/vocal skills. They could easily qualify as what tended to be called a ‘super group’ as a lot of rock bands from the 70s and 80s were called (guitarist from this bank, bassist from another, singer and drummer from others.) Yuko, the vocalist, has trained in, and won awards for Shigen, a traditional form of chanting poetry in Japan. That accounts for her hauntingly beautiful voice. No matter how well Wagakkiband rocks, when she sings, she BECOMES THE FOCAL POINT! Beni, the girl playing the Shamisen is also a national champion. One day when the Wagakkiband was rehearsing, she simply showed up, told them she was joining. She didn’t ask to join, she didn’t audition, she just said “I’m in the group”

"It was during a gig in a dining bar at Shibuya that the band meets Beni NINAGAWA, a tsugaru shamisen player from Tôkyô who plays this instrument since she was 4 years-old, besides being also an actress and an idol. At the end of the performance, she was so touched and moved that went to meet and introduce herself to Yuko SUZUHANA, with tears in her eyes. " This group basically has 5 people capable of being vocalists - Yuko, Machiya, Asa, Kurona, Beni; it also has 5 people acting as band leaders - Yuko, Machiya, Asa, Kurona, Daisuke.

By technical definition, Wagakki Band qualifies as a supergroup. It has multiple members from Hanafugetsu, Crow-Class, HeavensDust, and other members that belong to other bands. This group basically has 5 people capable of being vocalists - Yuko, Machiya, Asa, Kurona, Beni; it also has 5 people acting as band leaders - Yuko, Machiya, Asa, Kurona, Daisuke. All 8 of them can compose songs, so far only Daisuke has yet to write a song for Wagakki Band (but he has written piano and shakuhachi pieces for his other projects). The members say that Kiyoshi is a rare koto player who can do tuning on the spot as he plays and throughout the whole concert nonstop, and read and compose in both traditional and Western notation. Asa is a famous Vocaloid producer who composed the very popular song Yoshiwara Lament. All of them can play multiple instruments e.g. Kiyoshi can play koto and bass; Yuko studied piano at university and entered into a prestigious piano school to teach; Machiya plays the saxophone or trumpet (I can't remember!); Beni was a national youth champion in folk singing before sustaining vocal injury. Every member is basically national champion level or represents the country in diplomatic events or top-level in their own field.

And no...they are not the Kami Band in disguise rofl. Btw the mask is called "Noh" and it is used in traditional drama/Kabuki productions. Fun Fact: There are at least 3 different versions of Homura on KZfaq that I have found. 3 different venues and 3 different song combo's. One of the versions actually showcases Yuuko's sword/fan dancing skills instead of her vocals. Also. The glowsticks...are actual led lights.

Ease up on the pausing- as long as you do a LITTLE talking over it while it plays out- they won't block you because you're preventing the track being preproduced. It's not the video that they block you for...
