They sang it exactly as it was sung in the 1968 Broadway Musical "HAIR" This was the title song, this was during the Hippie movement and when all the teens and those of us in our '20s had really long hair, including the guys, similar to what you see here, but they exaggerated some of the wigs they are wearing. I finally got to see a touring show of it about 15 years ago and it was fantastic. People came in their hippie garb, and I did too, I had kept some of the clothes I wore back in '68 thru '69 and wore it to the theater, with my beads and peace sign necklace, a wreath of flowers on my head (my hair is still long and was then), At the end during the last songs, they invited any one who wanted to, to come up on stage and sing along with them, I did and so did a lot more, the stage was full and it was one of the most fun and best experiences I had. I had the album from the original Broadway musical, and me and my friends played it ALL the time, and sang along with it. It was VERY POPULAR in 1968, I was in my Junior year at Kent State University in Ohio then. Brings back a lot of great memories for me.

The 70's show The Partridge Family was based on the Cowsills. This song was from the musical "Hair".

I remember this song growing up in the 60's. It's from the musical Hair. I've read they inspired the Partridge Family sitcom. They have another cool song called, something like The Rain Parks and Other Things? I love Lae's reaction!!

This was a very popular song when I was in grade school, it's suppose to be a fun song, and very creative for the 60's and early 70's and alot of cool change ups.

The song is from the Broadway musical "Hair" about the hippie movement and the cultural and political changes in the late 60's. To fully understand the song, you'll need to listen to the soundtrack and a taping of the live Broadway performance. There is also movie adaptation.

The Rain the Park and other things is my favorite by them. Actually one of my favorite songs ever. Probably their biggest in 67. Indian Lake in 68 is quite good. This was good also.

I found your reaction video by searching specifically for "Cowsills Hair Reaction", after realizing I hadn't seen a reaction to this video/song in a couple years. It's underrepresented and deserves more reactions. Everybody reacts to a certain set of great songs, but some of the the greats get missed. This is a fun, fun song (especially if you listen carefully to the hilarious lyrics) and fun to watch, too! Those are all wigs, and they searched for the craziest, biggest hair they could find!

This is the era of the hippies, people made a big deal of hair because guys would wear their hair long suddenly in contrast to normal neatly cut hair that was considered more respectable. The 60s

I lived those days. And though parents didn’t always allow us to wear anything we wanted. There is nothing, repeat nothing that was not real in this video. That was the style, I am telling the truth. Even to the head bands and glasses, these teenagers could have walked out of the studio dressed like that and be seen as dressing normal. Maybe not every community, some places may have had parents that put their foot down and said, “I will not buy you cloths like that”. But yes, you could go into the stores and buy cloths that looked just like that. Back in the day, I had a chrome or aluminum belt with individual metal plates that looked like snake or fish scales. Yes, interesting cloths back then.
